What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Rustoelum (Reformer and Finish) works well! Wire wheel and sand sponge helps with surface prep. Lots of Brakleen. Make sure you use high temp brake grease like Silglyde on your contact points.

Moisture will be a huge issue unless you condition the box. Without conditioning, your engine will sweat/rust from the the inside out.

 

It’s pretty simple. Just make sure to disconnect the fog lights before pulling the bumper off. Once you remove all the pins and screws, slides right off.

Put my new rear bumper on! I only had to cut 1 rusted mounting bolt too !

 

LED bulbs installed in driver footwell, hvac controls, cargo lights, cab mounted brake light and reverse lights. Checked function and condition of spare tire. Found this. Fuck.

Empty can and some hose clamps will fix it right up.

 

LOL. That it would. I'm a little salty about it because I put that muffler on less than 2 years ago.

 

Drink a beer. Cut off the ends and slice the can open length wise with a couple of hose clamps and git er done. 'Nuff said. Next question. LOL

Impressive, that backplate looks like it was factory new! Mine has deteriorated well beyond that point.

On that note, I broke off another bolt, this time it's the one that holds the parking brake cable to the rear axle. I knew I should have just left it alone and just loosened up the parking brake bracket with PB to get it to swivel freely. Arrrrrgh!

 

we use those all the time for construction storage. They work well and keep things dry. Can’t speak to the condensation piece though. People do full on tiny home conversions with these.

Details details and links mang. That looks great. I installed LED bulbs in the map lights and dome lights but need to replace my cargo lights because the cheap bulbs I used flicker like crazy. Also I'm gonna add some under the door panels for puddle lights like you did. Thanks.

So this happened a little over an hour ago... I think my Tundra will come out okay with minor scrapes and bruises... my neighbors weren't so lucky. Hit and run only to wreck a second time and flee on foot.

That breaks my heart. I'm sorry to hear about that.

 

I feel for my neighbors losing both vehicles in a single event, but they are insured so it should work out for them. The sheriff has not picked up the driver yet, but they do have his car so it's just a matter of time. My neighbors will have their vehicles towed later today, and only then will I see the extent of the damage to my long bed.

Update: The driver that did the damage had his boss drive him over here today so he could apologize and share his insurance information - my faith in humanity is somewhat restored.

Yeah. You can see in the one pick I still hadn’t cleaned of the mating plate off the paper residue. Sadly, the nice new paper OEM Gasket wasn’t reinstalled by the goofy mechanic at Toyota Stealer when I was having a rear axle debacle. I’ve got a few extras somewhere, but not sure where they are. I’ve loaded up the area with Silver Anti-Sieze.

My fronts had a lot more paper and rust chunks stuck on the rotors. After cleaning them up, the front end steering felt better in terms of smoothness at speed. I had no idea until reading about little things like a small chunk of rust messing up balancing. Keeping that mating surface flat is key. I even wire wheeled the back of the wheel and inside the lug holes to remove cack.

 

That is absolute bullshit that the toyota mechanic forgot the paper gasket

 

Ehhh. Good chance it was destroyed beyond use if gear oil got on it. My gaskets only last 2 drum removals. They’re pretty thin paper.

 

I think the point is the Toyota mechanic should have put new ones back on. I even requested them put back on during their 3rd repair attempt. Nope.
