Most helpful answer. I knew I kept reading the bilstein 5100 was the answer but didn't know it would be so cheap to swap the springs over. Thank you.

Stealing this photo from @empty_lord Tundra build pages. If a shop has one of these, I can't imagine it would take more than 20 min to swap out both springs for you. $50 was an estimate I got from someone else, so YMMV. I would use that as a bargaining point... "but my dad had it done for $50"

Yoooo thank you for your answer! It has so much I needed to know. I think you're right about the alarm system being removed, because oftentimes they can be universally swapped into another vehicle. Good call about the remote start in Colorado, it takes some time to warm up the engine and cab---such a feature would be a game changer, I'm down for installing such a system. I've heard good things about Viper, I just can't decide if I want the alarm system too. I probably do since I'm putting so much money into the camper I'm building in the bed. Thieves are gonna steal what they want to steal, but sometimes an extra inconvenience can make the difference between successful stealing. Did you wire your horn and blinkers to chirp when you unlock? And what crank time did you set your ignition to for the starter?

I suspect I will find many spliced wires in the dash, and will update you with pictures soon.

Great idea, I didn't know the system is usually behind this panel, so I'll take it off hopefully today and see what I find. At least maybe I can discover a disconnected wire or the reason my driver's side door lock won't accuate.

That's the fanciest single purpose tool I've ever seen in a home garage. Gotta luv it!

Then again, who else has steel beams in their garage that can serve to hoist engines? Me... I have a jerry rigged 880lb electric hoist mounted across several rafters in my garage. I use it to unload heavy items from my truck, but never thought of using it to hoist an engine. :)

Yes, I wired up my horn and blinkers to chirp. Go with the defaults for the crank time, it worked great without any change. I installed the tach wire, and I don't think I tapped into the right location, but it is not absolutely needed. The tach wire is used for detecting over-revving.

The Viper can give me remote start for just 85 bucks? Is the install easy peasy or difficulty difficulty what the hell did I get myself into-y?

If you can do a car stereo, this can be done just as easily! Access Cabs are super easy. Both door lock wires are in the kick panel.

Wiring into ignition harness can now be done super easy with a T harness. Lemme look up part....

    [edit]
Alas, I could not find a T-harness for ignition wiring for our trucks. It’s easy to splice. Just stagger you’re splices so when you wrap it all back up, it won’t be one thick section.

Just pulled off the kick panel and, oof.

This is gonna be a challenge, figuring out what goes, went, and is supposed to go where. I wish I could just restore everything to the way it was and go from there. Is there supposed to be a some kind of box, or a harness where a box would plugs into? Because from here it just looks like a bunch of wires connected to each other. Maybe previous owner tried to wire everything back to work without alarm.

Don't take anything off yet, trace those wires up into the dash. Follow that white one and see if it leads up to an existing alarm brain.

You can re-use alot of those spade type T-Taps!

My I beams are used with a dolly to pull engines or really anything under 2k lbs... it’s massive

Here is where most of the wires terminate or are tapped into, including that white one. You can also see the unplugged add-a-fuse for the system. I as well think that some of these t-taps can be reused because they just have the connector that plugs into them.

    @ktundra
I'm pretty sure that the later model first gens had bump start.

Basically once the ignition signal was received the truck would continue cranking By itself until ignition was achieved. Is this correct? Or does a remote start system change that?

Earlier 1st gens like @theblurry1, mine, @Professional Hand Model, and others you hold the key in "start" until ignition was achieved.

Getting a some nose dive on braking. My struts don't seem to be leaking. They haven't been changed since we bought the truck used. May be time for new ones. I plan to get just the struts and switch them out myself. Pretty handy with ye olden hand tools and I have spring compressors. My DC has a puck leveling kit on front so stock height struts should work right? I have Bilstein 4600 series in rear so I'm leaning toward those in front too. Suggestions?

Then again, full strut assemblies are like 5 bucks more and would make the job easy peasy. Hmmm

Consulting with evil about torque specs and need to get a bolt to remount a line tab that was bored out. That bored out hole has a nut on the other side that is really tough to get at so I ended up just drilling a new hole for the sb bolt.

@Lil Steve: I needed to drill a hole on the driver's side to mount the frame bolt. (read above) I also had to chisel off an abs tab on the axle on the passenger's side to mount the u bolt bracket. On a quick drive to Ace, I seemed to notice less body roll but I need to put in some miles.

I'd go with lifted struts so you can get rid of the lift spacers. Also, your springs could be worn too

Any recommendations on lifted struts? I'm not sure the size of the lift/level it has. The puck is about an inch and quarter or so.

My friend has a 2001 Access Cab that I helped install the same Viper 4105V. Didn't have to adjust anything for his truck, pretty much worked with the default of .6 sec for cranking time. It can be adjusted in .2 sec increments.

Finally replaced the burst brake line, front passenger side. Installed new SS braided hose and also the hard brake line directly to the caliper. I originally bought a set of Toyota parts for all the hard lines up front. All were correct except for the one that burst. Go figure.

I had bought some NiCopp tubing to replace a larger brake line section in the rear. Decided to just make the tubing myself. I sacrificed the part that was incorrect, cut it so that I can use the factory fittings with my tubing. I have to say, this NiCopp stuff is really easy to work with.

    IMG_CB7E1A9AFF35-1.jpg

Had to double team that darn fitting to get it off.

Glad you got it all figured out, seems like the subtle differences between the ABS/non ABS made it just a little bit more involved. Looking forward to hearing more feedback as the miles go by.
