All the Fumoto valve talk yesterday motivated me to do some maintenance on the tired girl. Oil change, tire rotation, grease uca’s, adjust/clean rear drums and bash in more of the pinch welds, cuz that’s always fun.

@Casper421 I'd like to try to adjust my drums again. Did you just spin the star wheel a few clicks?

Yeah, spin the star adjuster some till you feel contact between the drum and the shoes. The retainer on my driver side adjuster doesn’t hold the star so I need to adjust them pretty regularly.

Plasti Dipped the window trim that had peeled off on the driver side and back window. It went ok for the first try. Had a couple spots peel up when pulling the tape. next time will probably score the edges first and be a little more careful.Still looks 100x better that before.

If you didn't, pull it while it's still wet and pull the tape at a 90 degree angle.

New radiator came in. Installing as we speak. Probably won’t bleed coolant tonight because it’ll be to late and I don’t want cops called[IMG]

It was an older guys truck for a long time, then the owner before me just used it to haul a mountain bike around. It drives like new and I couldn’t be happier!

Well yet a fucking gain. The damn radiator is built for a fucking double cab and won’t clear the hood on my truck. But it’s listed 99-06. Son of a fucking bitch

The Clifford remote lock / remote start system that was installed by a previous owner was not working right. It doesn't lock the door, and it is missing a hood switch that should safely disable the remote start system when hood is open.

I started down the rabbit hole with this severed wire. Instead of running it inside the door boot, the installer chose to run it outside, and allowed it to be pinched against the steel edge.

    IMG_5817.jpg

Traced that green wire inside the driver door, to the connector that goes to the window switches/lock button. After unraveling the gooey black tape, found that the wire is neither soldered nor crimped. It's just wrapped by hand and taped over. I'll be damned if any of the wiring is done right. I'll probably end up ripping it all out and start fresh. Existing setup is missing a 2nd remote anyways, and instead of getting a replacement remote for $40, I can just get a whole new Viper 4105v for about $60, 2 remotes, harnesses and all.

    IMG_5816.jpg

I wouldn't be surprised if the installers screwed this up in the driver footwell. Is this sunroof drain hose supposed to be long enough to go through the frame?

    IMG_5827.jpg

Who knows how long this has been dripping into the cabin. Surely, this should not have rusted like this.

Since the trim was bare metal, i had to lay on about 3 coats, should have done more actually...30 mins between coats recc'd, So pulling it wet was not an option.

Back in June we were talking about blackening faded trim & I posted some shots showing my results from Griot's Garage trim blackener stuff.
I've not washed the truck since, it's been living outside in the sun & rain & I drive it roughly every other day & whenever bad weather comes through.
So here's some updated photos - June 14 vs. 01 Sept. Holding up pretty good I think.
June 14, 1st coat vs. front flap:
    20200614_173654.jpg
Sept 1st, almost 3 months later:
    20200901_191419.jpg

Here's how the bumper cap is taking nature. I intentionally didn't do the inner lip, so before & after in 1 shot.
    20200901_191439.jpg

1 last shot - here's how those nasty chip guards on the wheel arch are holding up with the black dye.
    20200901_191410.jpg
Didn't do the door strips, prefer them faded & blending in.
So if it holds up this well, a product that lets you detail 4 times a year isn't bad. So that's my vote for the Griots blackener.

Inspected, cleaned and adjusted the rear brakes. Everything still looks good. Pedal feels firmer. I also painted the drums while I had them off.

What boots are you going with? Is it a pretty simple job? I'm on the fence with cvj Axel's and rebooting. I've always replaced worn Axel's but mine are still good just need new boots.

I would only reboot them if they are the OEM axles personally. I like my CVJ reman's but they are expensive. If you can keep your OEM axles going I would do that.

Oh, and if you're going to go the re-boot route I would get the high angle ones from Offroad Solutions. They should last a long time.

Word, I have oem and they only have 50k or so on them but the inners are cracked in the bellows and the outers have a few holes. I want to do the high angle inners and oem outer boots before I install my dobinsons c59-314 springs. I have no signs of them going bad but those cvj's look minty fresh and quick to swap out. I'll probably take my oem's in to get sonic cleaned before new grease and boots and have a real good look at them.

@FirstGenVol how's the roof rack? It looks so good up there. I'm still wanting to do the custom prinsu rack option but that rack is soooo much easier and less time consuming. Time is of the essence for me. I work 18/7 shifts for the next 2.5 months (harvesting food for y'all in the middle of nowhere) then hit the road west when snow flies.
