My front locker came in. I went with this style because I would only put it in 4x4 when I'm offroad so the cons of this style (noise) won't apply for daily driving (or at least that's my thought process, we'll see!)

Now it's just a wait for my front 4.56 gear so I can swap all this stuff out!

Thanks for waxing your truck. You should absolutely do the 4x4 conversion.

Curious to see how this works out for you.
My Tundra is my daily all year and coming from a T4R, I'm a bit concerned about winter traction.
**I'd like to get into off-roading, but the p-car and the MTB absorb all of my extra funds so it's hard to justify 'toys' for the Tundra.

It definitely looks like something was in there, but I'm not sure. Maybe some of the 2wd experts can chime in.

I'm replacing my steering rack soon, going OEM. I'll also change out the lower control arm bushings, anything else I should do since I'll have the rack off?

Finally getting around to replacing/fixing things that have been annoying me.

First up, rear view mirror that was cracked and bubbled. Scored an OEM one on eBay for $15. Second, fixed my shaky mirrors with 5/16 nylon washers on each screw - now they’re tight as can be and no shakes. Next, radio. Last, loud blower motor.

Between the quiet AC, non-rattling mirrors, non-squeaky rearview, and newly installed Bluetooth - it’s like driving a new truck again. All for less than $100

Now I just need to get it up to the driveshaft shop and get the carrier bearing and U-joints replaced. Found a highly recommended shop in Dallas that’ll do it all and balance for $180 :bananadance:

I'll be doing it one day on my 03.

I would say jump on those parts if you can do the install, or most of the install, by yourself. From what I understand some items are 05 specific so that's a good opportunity at a hell of a deal. Heres a good thread on it. Looks like 2 or 3 days of work to me.

I was for the d-ring bushing, but for the other two I was planning on leaving OEM. PHM didn't seem to love the poly bushings much and since they're brand new I was assuming they'd be solid for years. Open to opinions though.

It seems like a really fair price too. But I have no idea what a T case goes for. Seems like you could slowly acquire the parts over time and then just tackle the swap when you're ready.

You have multiple Beetles too? Who are you, Empty Lord?

That was the plan from the start, to get parts when I can and collect them all and hopefully all 03 parts (at least for ECU and trans). Price is fair, although a lot of transmissions come with the transfer case. Worst case I would end up with 2.

I have 2 Beetles, both have been in storage for ten years while I wished I had a house. My project this weekend is the garage, if that goes well I will bring home one of them next month and start the tear down and rebuild process.

I have a '70 that can run 12.8 quarter mile. It has a 2 liter motor and does wheelies in 1st and 2nd gear, scary thing to drive if I'm honest. Its estimated around 170 horsepower, never been on a dyno. Doesn't need much, just need to refresh the suspension, maybe convert to disc brakes and do some maintenance.

The other is either a 55 or 53, depends which vin I look at because the body and pan don't seem to match. It's not exactly stock but it's nothing fast. I have a good spare motor that I'm going to rebuild for that car, probably get 100 horsepower or so and regear the transmission so I can cruise the freeways. That car needs a lot but I'm not doing a restoration, just making it a reliable driver for weekends. It can show off its 65 years of scars.

After all that, I'll finish the truck. Probably the year 2023 if I'm lucky hahaha.

Adjusted 3 clicks on the rear driver drum.Thats the magic number on that wheel on my truck even with the Parking Brake Cable Set in Nirvana Status. Gave it a month since last having the wheels off the rear and checking the drums for leaks before doing this today.

Also, tested resistance on my old Ignition Coils in the parts box and all were out of spec. Still looking for the MAF Spec in the FSM.

So while still waiting on the U-Joints my new radio with the bypass harness came in.
What a mess i have now...
Ran the wires back under the seat, got it all hooked up and......no ignition power.
I have checked the fuses and they are fine. My father helped me double check the wires that came with the radio and its fine. We even plugged in the old radio and it won't work.
All I know to check is the truck's wire harness, anyone else have this happen?

I've seen that thread. There's a great one here too I'd recommend looking at. The guy is a 14 hour drive from me, but I think it's worth it for sure. Since it's a double cab, I would need to hunt down a new rear driveshaft and that's about the only real expense other than having new hubs pressed into the spindles. The only thing that scares me about the swap is just that tiny bit of wiring, but the buy said he'd give me the engine harness that got cut up by the person who took the engine.

A big question I have relates to the gear ratios. Why does the 2005 double cab have 3.92 in the rear and a 4.10 in the front? I have a 3.91 in the rear on my AC and I am really wondering if I would need to do anything to compensate for the ratios it's set up for. I'd love to know why the DC has mismatched ratios from the factory.

That's odd, it shouldn't have mismatch gears. Curious of the rear diff got gears changed out and they never cared about the front. You might be best to find a 4.10 3rd member for your rear axle.

14 hour drive :bananadead: I've priced parts put here in CA and ballpark is 2800. As boring as things have been with stay at home, I would take a few days off and take the drive.

I had to run power off the cig lighter and upgrade the fuse to a 25. I could not get ignition power from the harness...it was a nightmare to figure out but that's wrench life. I feel your pain as I was about to bash my head in...felt like a tool after all the 12v work I've done in my life and a radio install stumped me lol
