Might be on to something. Please explain 2 tone. Paint them all black (or another color)?

Mine already match because I have a limited. 2 tone isn't my thing. I just wanna rip em off. Flaps, flares and door trim gone... The only thing in the way is the holes they will leave behind.

Like this. I painted all my black trim last winter as it was faded. Used Rustoleum flat black. Lots of prep taping, little bit of sanding, and patience.

I like the two tone, as well. Would do black below the door trim.

Is there anyway to remove the door/side trim and fender flares without damaging anything. That is, remove them to paint, and then reinstall?

I’m sure they’re sturdy enough to remove without damage but @Matty4wd might have a definitive answer since he’s removed his.

Yes, it is possible, you may break a pop-in clip or two, so i would order some just in case. Once you remove all these:
    F1118423-D12E-4C51-ADEC-0CBB69CEA7FC.jpg
You can then pull one piece of the flare at a time, pulling straight out, and a little in the direction of the next clip youre gonna pop out. And thats about it, here are some pictures , the little gray scuff marks come off, all that is is the weather seal shown in the pic after

These are the holes left behind

And of course the clips can be re used, if they arent broken. You can always order more. Here is a picture of what it looks like after, my tires are 275/70 r17 with a +18 offset.

How about the door/side trim? Heat gun and fishing line?
I'm now starting to like keeping the flares and trim but painted black.

There are clips in the door trim as well, fish line may get caught.

When I sprayed my door trim with bed liner I was able to tuck tape behind the plastic trim and mask off about 4" all around. Then I taped plastic up and made my truck look like part of a Dexter kill room. Then I sanded, prepped, sprayed.

Not something I did "today", exactly, but just got back from a two-week trip to southern Utah and just now getting a chance to go through pics. Got my first gen a little muddy down Hole in the Rock Road!

    IMG_1885.jpg

On a related topic, is there a strategy for cleaning gritty mud off the windshield without scratching the shit out of the glass? While sliding sideways down the road, that is. Obviously stopping and flushing with water would probably be ideal...

Keep the trim on and tape off with blue tape. You’ll risk breaking tabs and properly fit trim when snapping back on if you decide to remove trim and paint.

In the end, you’ll spend the same amount of time either way. Only difference is your trim still is solidly intact versus rattling poor fit trim thats never the same.

Thanks bud. Its ‘stock optimized’, as I’d like to call it. I’m into the OEM and mechanical side of things.

Me too. The only time I've engaged 4wd sinc ei bought it was to test that it worked at the car lot and again in the dirt parking lot at work just to lube everything

I’ve been messing around with PB Silcone with Teflon Spray on a few items on the truck. Its made for lubing non greasable things and its non-staining/non dirty attracting. Lubed up the window tracks and some got on the window. It wiped clean, but feels like it could be a great dust/dirt barrier. With the Teflon, could provide some scratch resistance on the glass?

I need to delete that side doink from a shopping lot mishap 8 years. You’d never guess how it happened. Freaking guy next to me opened his Jetta rear door and it lodged in the crevise between my bed and cab as I was pulling out of my parking spot.

I felt something and quickly stopped. Reversed it and his door was fine! My truck not so much. He lied to insurance company and bottom line is on private property its their word against yours. Unless you have a witness.

Colored in the Toy symbol on wheel lug cap with some subdued red match (close) to the TRD logo. 2 coats. May do a third.

If it was an MK4 I believe that. Their doors are unusually solid. My brother in law opened the door on his Audi and hit my GTI door pretty hard (which was already open but he wasn't paying attention). His door still bares the scars and mine not even a paint blemish.

I rember doing this on my 99 taco 15s. I sprayed em black and then used red nail polish and then clear coated em. I wish I had some better pics or took more pics in general (RIP Pearl).

It’s very easy. I relocated mine to behind the driver side taillight. I re-used the old breather.

Nice! I used some oil paint from the art store. Had a real nice expensive chisel art brush laying around that did the detail work. Those caps were flaked out and I painted them last year. Always thought they needed a little special touch and this was it. Very subdued.
