Rube Goldberg’d the muffler (OEM) with a custom cut piece of metal sandwiched in a bed of epoxy. Made sure to wire brush things pretty good. Stuck a long screw driver up in there and poked around pretty good a test for weaknesses. None that I could feel or hear. The outside is still solid too except for that one spot. Will put a second skim coat on the repair tomorrow for good measure.

Hellwig called today to let me know they are backed up 4 weeks on the rear sway bar order. Called them back and said ‘No problem’.

No time to do anything major until then anyway. Probs do the prop/u-joints then, too.

Ran the VIN. It is a 2000 2wd. Not going to get the wheels, because there are only 3 17's, and the spare is a 16. Someone already grabbed the other wheel. Will grab the steering wheel. Also, should I grab the center console, just in case I come across a set of captain's chairs? Any other requests? Going out Thursday. Also located a 2004 in another salvage yard on the other side of town. Recently arrived. Will be checking it out also

I wonder how those AT3's stack up next to the Cooper ST Maxx? When I did my research a little over a year ago the Coopers came out as top dog. But I hadn't even heard about the AT3's for some reason.

I'm also in the market for a hybrid AT/MT tire. Any suggestions? I hear the Cooper ST Max is nice... Or maybe it's the Pro. i get to two confused. I know one is more agressive than the other but both are more agressive than ATP and AT3

Hey everyone! Finally I found a place to do the timing belt package for me for $1000 and today they got the job done. The package included Timing belt, water pump, thermostat, coolant, drive belt and all the seals. Also they did a complimentary inspection around the squeaking noise and realized it comes from the front shocks strut and they have been worn out. So next thing would be replacing the front shocks. As I was going to build this truck for camping and overlanding adventures, I had to replace those anyways, so please let me know if you have any recommendations about what front shocks should I use? Oh, and I need to level the truck (lift the front), so I don't know what parts exactly I need. Any advise would be appreciated.

Below is a couple more things that they diagnosed, but they aren't critical for now:
    - I might need to replace the rear leaf springs in the future as they've been worn a little bit (they told me it's normal for truck's age)
    - Same situation on the drive shaft (normal wear and tear) as it's just a little vibrating on high speeds over 70mph

I’m sold on the st maxx after hearing first hand reviews from members like @Grey Wolf. Most that run pros are dedicated trail rigs and aren’t DD’s. They’re MT’s and more aggressive but a softer compound so pavement eats them up.

Other hybrid options are Nitto ridge grapplers, Toyo R/T’s and Duratracs I guess.

I really like my ST Maxx tires. They've done well with everything I've thrown at them.

Easiest way to solve two of your problems is either bilstien 5100 front shocks (they adjust to add lift and are reletively cheap and can be used with your old coil springs or new coils)

or the heavier duty 6100 coilovers (also adjustable but more expensive)

or there's OME coilovers (about the same cost as 5100s with new coils but aren't adjustable)

Or Toytech Boss coilovers (Slightly more expensive than the 6100 coilovers bit more adjustment options)

The list goes on and on. As for the leaf springs you can replace them which is hella expensive or just add a wheelers off-road progressive add a leaf (3 leafs, very cost effective and smoother ride than a single add a leaf, for 1.5-2 inches of rear lift.)

Here two helpful websites I've run the 5100s on both my Tacomas with stock coils and the wheelers progressive aal on stock leafs springs and had no complaints. I'm still trying to decide what lift I want for my Tundra. It all comes down to what you want to spend and how much abuse it needs to handle as well as comfort.

Yep. This muffler is still solid overall. If she develops more holes I’ll cross that bridge, as the propeller rebuild job is coming soon and consuming my focus.

The muffler sounds deeper again with the patch job! No exhaust leaks under the truck!

Shocks: Do not get Bilstien 5100’s as they are great for street, but not off-road. I have them and love them for the street. Firm and sporty.

Leafs: Hellwig add a leaf. Do your research.

Propeller Shaft: Buy an OEM carrier bearing from online and have the shop put on new u-joints, as well, while the shaft is dropped.

What products did they use for your Timing Belt/Water Pump?

Saw Aisin (OEM) offers a kit online for around $150!

Does the increased weight translate to a significant increase in life and/or durability? If it does, that's a trade off I'm willing to accept. A cut sidewall or flat in the back country isn't a fun thing to deal with.

Also, if they're all getting heavier, which has the best life span, durability and traction?

Well I haven't installed them today, but the UPS guy delivered my Dynomax 4" tips on Saturday and Monday he delivered a Dynomax Ultraflow Weld muffler!

I just scored a great private sale deal on a 2005 Tundra XSP double cab Rwd with a little under 94K. I've been busy working and I haven't had a chance to get them installed, but I'm anxious to hear what the truck sounds like with Dynomax especially since it's all stock. First off, I need to get the front driver's wheel bearing replaced which is happening tomorrow...then the muffler change!!!

My thoughts, which is probably wrong, is that tire companies are beefing up the sidewalls with extra ply’s for the weight of trucks, increased towing capabilities and off-road durability. I ran E-rating Terra Grapplers(10 ply) for 50k miles, tons off road aired down to 15-18psi and never had a cut or flat. I’ll take the added weight for durability.

Musket Brown color match patch on the muffler. Not bad. Doubled up over yesterdays patch.
