I'll order two when I hear back from Roman then. I felt up the one I do have, and it's hard as a rock. Granted I'm not a 3,000 lb truck though. I'm sure it still has some give.

Picked up a Bamuffler locally this weekend. It's for an 00-02 so I need to weld an o2 bung onto it but my goal is to do a side exit through the body as I plan to add some type of rear bumper and probably cut/angle the back for improved clearance. I also received my OEM gaskets for the JBA headers I have sitting in the truck and I ordered quite a few new tools/extensions to see if I can inspire myself to start the header install. I laid under my truck for about 10 mins yesterday looking around building up the courage. Once I get the new tools in, I will remove the heat shields and see how that goes. Due to my current inability to jack up the entire front and leave the tires off to do the removal/install I am looking at what I can gain access to top/bottom and by turning the wheels. With the lift, there's a decent amount of room but Idk if it's realistic to not remove my tires and do the install. Another thing I noticed, on the passenger side, the o2 is on the resonator pipe. I've been getting P0430's every once in a while. I noticed when laying underneath I had a SMALL exhaust leak so great time to fix that with the next exhaust!

I'm not sure if he was only speaking about the long tubes, but Keith told me over the phone that it was best to use JBA gaskets with JBA headers. I cannot recall why. He admitted the OEM gaskets are better made but something about the fitment with JBA not being ideal. Maybe someone else can chime in.

I’ve always ran oem gaskets with my thorleys on the 3.4. Don’t see why the 4.7 jba would be different (unless the rivets interfere with the flanges)

I used percy gaskets at the heads. JBA gaskets seemed fragile, made of a felt looking material. Leak free since 2010.

At the collector however the JBA gaskets are good.

Maybe it was a problem unique to the long tubes? I was taking notes as he was talking but I can't remember what the exact issue was. I've always heard that the OEM gaskets are the way to go and he even admitted they were better quality but something about their(JBA) design made him use JBA gaskets.

It may be unique to his header design.

He posted some time ago that he gave his design to JBA and they're building from that, but JBA website seems to show a different header. If JBA is using their original plate at the head then either gasket should work, but if they're using a plate that Keith designed then maybe something is different. Maybe larger ports even, hard to say without seeing them in person.

That's what I'm thinking. He was throwing a lot at me so I didn't retain everything as I took notes but I also recall him saying that even though it was his design they didn't listen to him on one part and did their own thing. I'm guessing the gasket issue may not apply to the short tubes.

This is my goal. Everywhere I read, at the head, it was NOT JBA and at the Cats JBA was fine.

I've read numerous leaking threads with the JBA header gasket so being this install is not easy, I didn't want to chance it. I recall reading Keith stating (on someone else's thread) you can use the JBA but need to tighten "all the way" or something along those lines. Sounded like it can work but.....and not really wanting to have a "but" in there.

So I started the Lower Ball Joint replacement and ran into some snags. First, I started the job only to realize I dont have a socket big enough for the big Castle nut where the ball joint attaches to the Lower control arm.

Since I finally got the tie rod ball joint free, im having trouble getting the 4 smaller bolts off. The whole wheel assembly moves now. So Im thinking of investing in a good impact wrench to help break these bolts loose. Ive sprayed them with WD40 penetrating spray and still no luck.

So questions: What impact wrench do you guys recommend. That fancy Milwaukee ive been seeing in here?

Also, what size sockets do I need for the LBJ replacement. That big castle nut looks like 22mm? The other one is 17mm I believe and the 4 bolts are 14mm? Thanks for the help guys!

I recommend the stubby impact wrench Milwaukee M12. Although, I haven't tackled that job yet. Not sure how it would perform for that job.

This is the one I use for everything.

Castle nut for the tie rod end is 19mm, the 4 bolts for the LBJ are 17mm, and the big lower castle nut is a 22mm I believe. I just did mine and they were the originals and I was able to safely break everything loose from soaking all the bolts with Kroil brand penetrating oil over the course of a week or so, and just used a decent breaker bar, blow torch, a couple different jacks, and mini sledge. Theres a pretty good video on 1stGenOffroad Youtube channel.

I ended up buying the Dewalt version since it was a lot cheaper, almost as good, and I already had all dewalt batteries.

Huh, maybe my truck is different, but the 4 bolts for my LBJ are 14mm. The new ones I ordered are 14mm as well.

I do know they changed the design of the ball joints several times over the years. Ball joints for the 2000-2002 won't fit my 2003 model. When ordering LBJ's I would shop with VIN number handy.

I'm at work right now but I've used it for everything garage related.
20V MAX XR High Torque 1/2inch impact wrench.
1200ft lbs breakaway torque. Spins the lug nuts right off which really is the main thing it's used for.
