What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Finally saved and ordered all the parts I needed. 2 oem lbjs, ubjs, inner and outer tie rods, bolts and some other odds and ends. Let's hope everything just sweetly falls into place (wishful thinking). I'll update ya'll when I put Humpty Dumpty together again

 

IIRC as long as they aren't DC lights you should be good.

 

Ya, I know DC lights are big. Im assuming you can because I have seen a 2000-2002 style tundra with them but I wasnt sure if he mod'd them or something.

Anyone know of any good places to buy them? I Have been checking my local pick a part but they destroyed the 2005 they had before I could even get there.

 

On your front bumper, did you cut that little piece of plastic thats on the bottom of the bumper or did you detach it? ive been thinking about doing that on mine, but didn't know how much time it would take to detach it rather than just cut it

I did that on my bumper. It literally takes 2 minutes to unscrew it and detach it. I think it looks much better with just that little change.

Rotated my tires this weekend. And wiped down the whole interior plastic parts. Thats about all i did this weekend on the Tundra.

Having 4 jack stands now made the tire rotation soooo easy! Now i just need to get one of those Milwaukee impacts everyone is drooling over, haha

Made a few calls today concerning the 02 rear drum brakes.

My main machine shops drum turning machine is busted and out of commission for a few months. Guy recco’d another shop too far away, but I called them anyway. This guy says he needs to see the drums and is not sure if a proper job can/can’t be performed. $30 a drum cost. Too much driving/risk.

Asked his opinion, he said just buy new drums.

Rear brake job goes on ice until further notice due to not wanting to spend any more money to do it right. Truck is stopping fine with the oil contaminated now cleaned up old shoes. They have plenty of thickness left.

I guess I could go Jackleg and install my new shoes with reusing all the old parts (springs/cylinders)?

Watcha think? Re-use all the old parts with new shoes?

Or, let her roll as is?

Got the bumper fully welded today. Turned out good, the passenger side droops a bit so I will shim the driver side when I fully install everything. The wings have a little bit of unwanted flex but I’m sure I can stiffen it up some

Yeah I never put that lower piece on. I agree with oscardog86, it looks better without it.

 

My wife was complaining that the step/courtesy light doesn't do much, so I fixed it.


The rest of the LED's are supposed to arrive tomorrow. Just have the 194's for now ...

Yeah it’s in the works, that’s what the passenger side bracket is for, under the tail light

 

Do you still have the OEM front ‘skid plate’ on in that pic? Its hard to tell.

It looks good without the little bumper spoiler, but like it better with it on for my truck for better mpg

I really like that body metal you painted black just under the Grille and between the headlights assys.

I did some mock coloring on the ipad on some pics of my truck back last year, but could never pull the trigger on it. Nice seeing it in person. Problem I had was trying to work with the curves at the corners. I added on your picture what I was trying to achieve.

Thank you! No, I don't have it on at the moment. I'm kinda liking the look without it for some reason. The bumper filler is off ebay and came painted black. I was planning on paint matching it with the paint I got from Automotive Touchup but you got me thinking maybe I should leave it. I was planning on doing the filler and the outer edge and center of the grille in silver sky but Im on the fence. Decisions, decisions.

 

I really like that look. I didn't even catch the fact that you painted that one area under the grille at first. What color is your truck? I don't recognize it.

I really like that detail you added to the edges of the fenders in black. How far were you thinking of going with the black? Maybe the edge of the corner lamps? There is a line in the fender below the lamps that could possibly allow for a good transition.

 

Here's another option I was thinking of going with. Painted filler and upper bumper cover. I like how it lines up with the the fender flares. Found this example online.

 

I honestly like how your truck looks way more than that example you showed. Just my opinion, although Im wanting to go the route of another user on here who cut the top section of his bumper off and welded new tabs and got the bumper up higher and closer. I just gotta learn to weld with my new welder to make some tabs to bolt the bumper up higher. Time to go looking for some scrap steel to practice with hopefully this weekend.

 

Thanks for the feedback bud, I'll probably just leave it. Im liking the black a bit more as well. Makes me jealous of the guys with the murdered out Tundras. They look so badass in black but such a pain to keep clean!
I know what bumper mod you're talking about. Just can't find the pics right now. I like how it turned out, nice and high. Post some pics of your bumper if you end up cutting it.

 

Yea when i eventually hopefully get that mod done, ill definitely post some photos up here.

I wish but no that would have cost me a fortune. Majority of it is cheap stuff off fleabay with the mounting stuff being oem from Roman. Didn't want to invest too much knowing I will more than likely end up with a custom prerunner bumper in the near future. The wife wants a long travel kit on it so we will see how long this setup hangs around for.
