Ya the bumper is sweet, You could probably save it if someone was proficient at body repair.

Is the Sequoia rear disc swap a bad option? I've read that it's an easy swap, I just don't think I've seen a write up or any diagrams that prove full compatibility. I'm on the fence if I swap discs in the rear or build my econoline 9". The viability of the Sequoia disc swap might be the decider for me.

Headlight update- got my xenon depot 35w 5000k bulbs in and I shimmed them to bring the hot spot down further past the low beam cutoff. It seems that I have doubled my useable light. Really, I cannot say more good things about the xenon depot bulbs after tuning my bulb holders. I may have taken the hot spot down a little far on the passenger side, but the driver's side is great and they both are very bright without blinding anyone. Lesson learned, tune those bulb holders when using chinesium projectors, and use good 5000k bulbs.

Did the Sequoia have an optional elocker? What about the Land Cruiser and LX470? I assume they were all disc brakes as well. I'd be all for rear a rear disc conversion if it had an elocker. Although I probably get more.use out of my mech LSD

the sequoia didn't have any factory lockers that I know of. The land cruisers, I have no idea. I believe the Lexus might have, but used a Tacoma or 4runner style 8" if I recall. A full axle swap with the included cutting of coil brackets and welding leaf perches would be possible.
I think the only thing I've seen close as far as swapping is the Sequoia. I thought about picking one up and cleaning it up to weld spring perches, but I wouldn't mind just swapping brakes.

The LC/LX470 only had a rear locker in 98. After that, it was only the center diff that locked and 2000+ had A-Trac.

They do have disc rear brakes.

Isn't that kit like $2,000? I know someone shared a disc conversion kit that was insanely expensive. If it could be done for $500 I would consider it. No way I'd pay a few thousand for that.

I'll be watching very closely if you do it. I don't understand how Toyota could make a 1/2 ton truck with rear drum brakes in the 2000s...all the domestic 1/2 tons in 2005 had 4 wheel disc brakes...rear-drums seems to be a favorite cost saving measure for Toyota NA on their trucks...

People don't think twice about dropping $2-5K on suspension/bigger tires/wheels which exacerbates the weak brakes on these trucks. If someone reported a significant improvement, I'd consider it.

Yep. Hell, they STILL put drums on the 2020 Tacoma's.... Even my stepdad's cheapo 2005 Frontier has rear discs.

Good point.Who's gonna be the guinea pig? I feel like if someone spends $2K on this kit it might be hard to get honest feedback. They are going to tell us it's an amazing improvement to justify the expense. I'd want to see some stopping distance measurements to know if it worked.

Yes, it was one of the things that bugged me about my 2017 Tacoma...

I hear ya...confirmation bias is alive and well, and the more you spend the harder it is to not have it. That's why there are so many 3rd Gen Tacoma owners who LOVE their trucks. Either it's confirmation bias or they are too young to know what a truck is supposed to drive like... ;-)

Anybody ever do the big brake kit? When I go to 17s and 35s in the distant future I'd like to do the big brake mod. Not sure if it's more cost effective and/or physically more effective than a rear disc swap.

Those F5 wheels are the bomb. I was going to order those before I found my used Ray10's. Are you going to put the dust caps back on the axle nuts?

Bracket kit for the parking brake setup with cables is about 500ish last I checked.

I can’t stand the drums so I may do it. We’ll see

You probably won't find any recent info on the old front bbk, I see used kits for sale pop up here and there. Dig around on Tundra Solutions circa 2008 and you might find some threads on it.

Interesting that the SOS kit says bbk, wonder if the rotors are bigger than the sequoia.

Dust caps? Not sure what you mean, the F5's dont have caps and my axles never did either. Should I have something covering those up?

Yeah it looks like you're missing your dust caps. One of my front ones had a hole in it so I replaced it.

It would actually look better and you could paint them gunmetal to match the wheels.

So the Sequoia parking brake assembly can't be used? I've seen complete Sequoias for $500 locally.
