New axle seal was installed today on the drivers rear. Mechanic said its possible he dinged the one that he put in last month. We made sure the parking brake hub cable was corrected. He even took off the other rear wheel to inspect and it was the same way so who knows? The prior truck rear brake service was done by another shop a few years ago when the seals blew out due to clogged axle breather. Maybe the mishap was on them?

Anyhow. We cleaned both the brakes and everything real good with about 3 cans of CRC Brake Cleaner. Took it for a drive and she seems her normal self. Parking brake still sucks. We did not do any adjustments other than cables put back in the slots. Tension feels better now on that cable running parallel to the rear axle from wheel to wheel. Maybe some other adjusts will be magic?

We also trouble shot my rear clunk at low speed 90° turns. He seems to think its an aged/worn leaf spring bushing. After all, its 18 years old and been through some use. No worries.

Right. I wish I could disable it while keeping the ABS active because pulling a travel trailer on a turn on the freeway activates the VSC and automatically brakes for me which is dangerous and scary and royally pissed me off

If that's not enough, we lose a damn fine place to stick a second battery.

I hear it's possible to move it over, but I don't like messing with that crap.

Yeah, its a limited w/ the TRD package (which in Tundra's just means an LSD rear... eww)

So many parts are here already. 5100's, AAL, 33" tires, oem lbj's, stainless lines, diff breather relocate kit, kenwood wireless carplay unit, backup camera, new carrier bearing.

Been suffering from a bad case of swamp ass the past few days so spent some time cleaning/freshening the drivers seat.

While I was doing that, the ordered T-55 bit walked up to the house. Now I can spend all night in the garage staring at the impact drill and bit combo until I can use it.

Jeez that battery is the big one! You could probably disassembled and reassembled your truck twice with that!

Someone actually said recently the TRD package doesn't guarantee an LSD. It was common, but an option. So some trucks will have the TRD package with no LSD.

The sticker on the pumpkin is the easiest way to tell but it sometimes falls off over time.

Oh yeah that's right. I do have an LSD in mine though according to toyotaowners build breakdown of my VIN, kinda wish it didn't but i'd rather have the LSD than the VSC, ive heard about their master cyl issues and YIKES.

Witnessed one of these flashlights in action today and will be getting one. The magnet is super strong and the light super bright. The lens articulates for just about any angle to work on vehicles. There is a 20% off coupon online.

My mechanic has a drawer full of flash lights and since he got this its the only one he uses. Rechargeable, thin, and perfect for any vehicle space. Going to get one.

The LSD works well. i mean a locker offroad would be better.. but the LSD on my reg cab even with all the miles still works perfectly and it hasnt gotten stuck on the Very light offroading i have done with it..

get a Air locker setup in a 8.4" diff and you could turn around and sell your LSD diff too

I’ve never had a locker, but the 2wd 4runner does some sweet stuff with its electric lsd. I still want to press the limits and see what my true lsd will get me in and out of, then I will decide if a true locker is in my future, lucky one of the best 3rd member builders is only 100 miles away

You are correct. The thing is our trucks are pretty capable as they come (assuming they are 4x4 and LSD) for off-roading.

We put a lot of pressure on the perfect when much of what our trucks can already do is pretty amazing.

I asked Al Fundy about whether he thought he could do that Hells Gate rock climbing stuff in a regular stock 4x4 Tundra and he said most likely yes. Maybe not as easily as his fully modded truck which is more like a professional type race series truck, but he said yes.

I’m amazed at the grunt our trucks have in 4Lo. The truck really squats in its stance and you can feel that torque.

My truck has done some pretty cool off-road stuff, but sadly the flip phone photos never could be saved to the non-existent cloud.

it will not get you nearly as far as a true locker.. but it can help

now if you do really get stuck you also have to realize that its going to eat the clutch packs up in the LSD too

Saw a new Honda today turning into the stealership lot and the rear inside wheel lifted about a foot off the pavement. Not even going that fast.

Luckily I only have the ABS light now. Roads were really slick by the airport today and it was nice actually being able to stop without that electronic mumbo gumbo.

I didn't know traction control was an option on the 1st gen. I had it on my Titan and no thank you! I'd rather do a one tire fire trying to enter a roadway than have my engine fall on it's face. Not sure how the Toyota works but the Nissan and my wife's MB pretty much feel like they cut the fuel or spark. Enough to give me that oh $hit feeling in the stomach.

I've had my truck stuck before. Not fun. LSD didn't help as much as I thought. One back tire was barely touching the ground.Street tires likely made it worse. Fat woman in a Ford Escape pulled me out.
