Funny that you mention that. After looking up colors from that chart I decided Timberland Mica was one of my favorite colors. I don't think I've seen one either. It's not as dark as Jade. There are actually several colors that seem rare. I still don't beleive they made very many in black.

Been tracking down a noise in the rear of the truck for about 2 years. It happens when turning at slow speeds. Clunk or clunk clunk sound coming from inside of turn of rear tire. Never the tire taking weigh on the outside. Rode in the back bed a few times as I originally thought it was my rear leaf springs due to splay or worn bushings. The ride in the bed zero’d me in on what sounded like clunk coming from rear wheels at the hub when taking slow corners.

Yesterday, I grabbed the rear tires at 12 and 6 o’clock and could mimic the above described sound on a quieter scale by rocking the wheel. I also tried this rock technique with the wheel off and just the drum which was a slightly louder clunk due to no lugs fastenings.

No noises at high speeds, bumps/turns going straight, or in reverse etc.

    Whats your take? Fix?

There is one of these colors down the street from me driven by a gurrl fren. Nice color. She has 17” custom rims and a shmancy rear bumper with little rectangle LED back up lights. Its an Access Cab with is better.

Being someone who has been shopping Tundras the last 10 years I can say that while black is not a relatively rare color for the sum total of 1st Gens, given that it was offered every year (unlike every other color but white), you'd expect to see more than you do for sure. I easily see 3-4 times as many whites for sale as I do blacks.

Drug this thing to the dealer for service, my department bought it from another department on campus. Just barely fit on my 5x8 trailer.

09 model with only 1800 miles on the odometer. Has some minor issues mostly just from sitting.

That was my conclusion as well. Not rare, but I don't see black ones very often here in TN. And I look.

Because there is nothing else better to do, I just spent about a half hour on phone with a Toyota Corp rep about the 2002 V8 4.7L automatic transmission drain and refill amount per the specs in the original operating manual.

They made no revisions and are sticking to 2.1 quarts drain and fill in the transmission.

2.1? Hmm drain and fill in a a340 is usually around 4-5 quarts out of the pan... just catch what you drain and fill with the same amount

There is a reason for this, black ones are too fast to spot in the wild.

My local independent Toyota service center said not to drain and fill my transmission because it has World Standard in it, what's your take on that? They also said not to touch the power steering or brake fluid unless I know it's been contaminated, but man, it looks dirty. 145K miles and I was thinking it might be a good idea to start swapping in new fluids.

The ws fluid is suppose to be good for 100k. But it typically is black by 30k. I do a drain and fill on my Avalon and tundra every 10k.. but I also have 200 qts of the stuff. A drain and fill ever 30-50k should keep it healthy and have no ill effect

Thanks 1A Auto for the Good times and wasting my money.

Any idea who the manufacturer was? I've had good luck with Timken and SKF bearings.

Man, if I've learned anything, it's that just because someone works in a particular industry, doesn't mean they know what they are talking about. That is ridiculous advice. Any and all fluids break down over with age and with heat. You should absolutely get fresh power steering fluid in there, and remember it's actually ATF on our trucks. I use Valvoline MaxLife Synthetic ATF.

Edit-I just now caught the part about brake fluid. That's especially laughable as brake fluid absorbs water over time. You should bleed the system or at least suck out the reservoir and put fresh in. Dot 3.

I'm talking about the power steering fluid but isn't WS just a type of ATF? For the transmission he just as to use something that's equivalent to WS.

Like Empty Lord and First Gen Vol says or somewhere in between.

For the 2002 the DEXIII is so cheap so my plan is to drain and fill every oil change or every other change. In the past, I waited the required intervals which got me by but I always paid others for service. Now I do it so its free labor and small cost materials wise. Brake fluid is cheap so I buy that when on sale Bogo and do suck and fills on the hand model fleet.

Basically, fresh fluids are cheap insurance. Can you stretch it out? Sure. But how far is too far?

Your WS is more expensive than DEXIII and your model has no dipstick and needs funky technique for proper level checks.

Bummer man. So much hard work and time spent on crap. Koyo is supposedly the Toy OEM BRAND. Glad you are getting reimbursed.

Glad I paid others to do mine because they are the ones to correct the problem. A pro mechanic I’ve known for a long time and he used SKF and NAPA seals etc for parts and labor $500 for one bearing. He’ll be eating this job hard. Feel bad, but those are the breaks!

Speaking of which, now he has to buy and install new brake shoes on both sides due to oil contamination.
