I bought both, the install tool that they send, I didn’t feel like it was the perfect size, but it worked fine
For the seal, I used a 2” pvc coupling to drive that it, works perfect

@FrenchToasty or @KarmaKannon do either of yall have pics or any kind of write up for that needle bearing? Anything sticky worthy?

Same for @Mr. Pink for the front bearings?

I know there's videos out there, but I learn better by pics and reading steps. Plus it's nice to set the tablet there and compare pics while under the truck.

Edit: I guess that's goes for anyone doing anything major. A new thread is handy so we don't have to dig through this thread. Then if the majority says, it can maybe be stickied.

Check out ECGS bushing to swap out with needle bearing.
Buy all OEM parts : inner and outer bearing seals, snap rings, and wheel bearings.
Take it to a machine shop to pull and press in

As a matter of fact with all this talk of wheel bearing failing, I think its time to check on my drivers side done by others before the warranty ends so the wheel is coming off for inspection! Got my slider knee pads, jumpsuit and helmet ready. Aiming for 6.23 seconds pit!

There is a video on a1 Auto:
    https://www.1aauto.com/how-to-replace-front-wheel-bearing-00-06-toyota-tundra/video/16739

Along with a Timmy the Toolman 4Runner video, he’s doing the upper ball joint but he is really good with details on how to get the knuckle off:
    https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-sY2azyLBuI

I can send my notes later this week but once you break it down step by step it’s not too bad.

I did my right front wheel bearing, decided not to do the left when I did the upper ball joint and now I realize I have to do the left as well... live and learn!

Long time lurker, first time poster. Quick question, potentially buying my first Tundra. It's a bluesteel sr5 and I've not seen a single bluesteel on the site. Is it an uncommon paint?

Ohh wow! What a cool chart. When I was doing my "research" I never found something that simple. It's an 05 with 99,000 miles. Think I'm gonna pull the trigger tomorrow. It's bone stock so I'm excited to bring it up to scratch!

On that note, I'm no rube, but I definitely don't have the trained eye. Watched a YouTube video on what to look for in the frame. Located in Ohio so rust is a real thing here. I'm bringing it home and putting it on my ramps on the test drive. Amy tips on what to look for?

Rust. Bad rust. Light surface rust is fine. Anything after that really depends on your comfort level. A few good threads here, here and here

If it's flaking that's not good. Take a screwdriver and actually poke around. We've seen a few stories where the frame was sprayed to hide the rust.

But I like the sparks, they're pretty. :boom:

I've watched that video twice now. But I also like when avg people like me do it and show how. Its more.... down to earth and relatable i guess. I don't know what I'm trying to say.

Yeah, I'd pick it up if the frame is good. I believe @Swalters has the blue steel and someone else.

Well that just brings up more questions! Why does it bring up a two tone jade/gray but no others (sunfire/sand)?

Doh! She is going back in the shop for warranty. I warned my mechanic before doing this bearing job. Even asked are you sure you want this? hahaha

I've installed the poly bushings on my trucks steering rack and my friends Sequoia. There is enough slack in the hard lines.

I’m a step by step picture guy, as well. The videos, especially Timeh Toy, drag for way too long even though he is very informative.

Blue steel is more common than my color, which is blue marlin pearl. They are similar but blue steel is lighter with less or no pearl(I can't remember if BS has pearl). Although my camper shell and front bumper are blue steel, you can hardly tell its not the same color in certain light. But when my buddy with his 06 blue steel parks next to mine, they are entirely different blues. It's very weird and awesome.

Did your dad buy that truck new? I'm thinking some of the 2 tone packages were dealer add ons. If not, I've got no idea.

So I think I fixed the axle seal leak. When I tore it down I saw a small tear in the seal. I guess I put a little too much skookum behind it during install. Oh well it gave me a good excuse to run to the parts store and meet a fellow Toyota enthusiast. I'm actually pretty good at taking the front end apart right now.
19mm special socket for the lugs, 1-1/8" for the upper uniball, maybe 24mm for the lower bj, 15/16 for the steering heim, 17mm caliper bolts, big socket for the axle nut (maybe 1-7/16?), remove the rotor, tap the bj, bungee the caliper, remove the spindle, wrap the CV in rags and suspend it with a bungee, tap tap it out of the diff, and Bob's your gender non-binary auntle.

I’m almost excited for when I have to pull my aftermarket CVs, after I reboot my oems. I think I’m going to do the sdhq boots.
I still can’t believe how much needle bearing was left/not there, in your truck!! Your cv was floppin all over the place

Looking at that chart, I'm not sure that I've ever seen a Timberland Mica. Imperial Jade is common and was a color I wanted but it wasn't black enough.

Flapping around like a duck she was. I am running the sdhq boots now. They seem alright, but I had to pull them further towards the center of the axle shaft to keep the bellows from constantly rubbing on each other. I also need some new clamps because I screwed one of the big ones up on install and the smaller ones all had to be taken off when I pulled the boots tighter.
