I’m going to sckool on suspension work right now. I’ll need a few weeks down in the Rainforest before all of it really sinks in.

That red works better than I would have thought. I covered that trim piece with some carbon fiber look vinyl recently. It's holding up pretty well.

Sure looks good, but blue would work better, IMHO. I'm currently thinking that I'll be copying your effort with that blue I speak so fondly of. I especially like the red Toyota emblem on the hub covers - reminds me of that truly awesome, artistic rendition of the emblem on Pinay's black beauty's grill.

Then there is the vinyl in the carbon fiber look that I'm trying to fit in to the picture and liking it for the interior until I get to the center console's faux wood trim - can I get the vinyl to stick? I am not in the least a fan of that faux wood trim as it reminds me of something my great grandmother would have liked in her time but galls my sensibilities. I wonder how well vinyl would stay on this small sliver of plastic...

It's nice to see that I am not the only one looking at simple touches to add a bit of personalization to my ride. I've even recruited my niece, a college art student, to give me pointers on color matching schemes with regards to the interior.

Busy morning but I got it done!!!! No big hiccups besides removing the CVs, hitting the lip with a pry bar/hammer wasn’t getting me anywhere, ended up wedging the pry bar tween the cv and the diff and giving the handle a swift pop and that finally cleared the C clip. The ECGS bushing wasn’t to bad to install, the new axel seals were ok, just have to be careful how deep you drive them. The torque spec I found for the 4 bolts holding the lbj to the arm was 48, which seems to low. After a snack I’ll take the rental tools back and see how the test drive feels! 313A4B29-3CCC-4738-839B-79E64E345080.jpg

Only one way to find out and thats give it a try with the vinyl. I’d paint it personally.

Per the red Toy emblem, I did that last year with a small painters brush and some oil paste both purchased from the local Art Store. Its held pretty nicely for el cheapo cost. I think the tube was $4 and the brush was $4.

May refresh it with this new rattle spray color to perfectly match it.

May I ask why we are doing this ECGS bearing install?

You may, lifted trucks put more pressure on the driver needle bearing, it usually creates a lot of slop and vibrations in that cv at the diff. This is a impregnated sleeve that replaces that needle bearing, now the cv is tight like a........(insert whatever you want)..... no slop at all. And since I was in there I did the other related items

East coast gear supply, they are pretty well known gear/3rd member builders.
The passenger side will have some play but the drivers side is always worse

Passenger side doesn’t have the needle bearing. It instead uses a ball bearing bearing. Driver side is the one with issues.

In other news my fuse box plans are kinda done? The Camry box had the correct relay terminals. But I still have to hunt down 3 fuse leads so I can get all that stuff done.

    Made decisions!

So after some discussion about the Icon coilovers I went back to reading about OME for our trucks. OME just has a stellar reputation for being quality and dead nuts reliable which I think is the main reason most of us buy Toyota to begin with, so with that said....I have the 90004 shocks and 886 springs sitting in my cart along with the 60091 rear shocks. Overall, it looks to only be about $750 (includes the insulator for the OME springs using stock top hat). This is literally half the price of Icons. I'm only waiting to see if any Black Friday deals pop up, otherwise ordering this setup.

I'm a bit nervous that the 886's will give a bit too much lift but with bumper, winch and skid plates, I feel it will balance out so I probably won't install until I have all of those items ready.

Lastly, I purchased SPC UCAs (found on Amazon for about $100 less than anywhere else so I didn't want to wait) and dual USB cig lighter replacement for my head unit. Oh, and going to look at a Warn Zeon 12 winch on Sunday. Not sure if it will fit within the brute force bumper but willing to do some modifications if needed. Big go or go home right!

Would this ECBS Bushing cure this slight grumble/binding at low speed take offs (usually while turning)?

Been tracking down this random and ever ever slight vibration that sounds like its in the back, but not sure. Low speed accel from stop while turning. Random. Not every time.

Does this sound like a problem that this bushing is designed to fix?

Supposedly the grumble or bind noise would happen most of the time, but how to check, is put it in 4hi. That puts actual pressure on the axel and if that’s the cause, the noise or vibration will go away or lessen supposedly

Well on trying to remove my fuse box to start messing with the wiring it turns out when the battery shifted it cracked the hosing pretty good... thinking about just buying a used main harness on eBay... 140 bucks with tow package so it would be wired already. Just curious if it’ll actually come in one piece or be hacked up. It’s 2600 new

Appreciate the heads up! Put the OME stuff in the cart. Couldn't find the 886 springs for the front on the site but will keep searching. - Thank you!

I'm thinking about getting one of these as well. Do you think the panic button is harder to push? I keep hitting mine lately and it's really getting old.

I was buying the items individually so I could purchase the 886 springs. TECHNICALLY, they are just Tacoma parts that happen to work on the Tundra as well.

The Front shocks are 90004 and the rears are 60091. The springs that come with the "Tundra" kits you see are 885's which are 590lb but I'm going with the 886's that are 660lb. This should give about 2.5-3" with the bumper/winch and skid plates.

I had the same issue hitting the buttons in my pocket. With the new case it doesn't seem to be an issue anymore. You definitely won't be hitting the panic button unless you want to.

This is what I believe for most coilovers, but not without limitations. If your adjustment is within the ideal range, where you are only changing the height of upper perch in relation to the shock body (but not lower perch) at static height, then you won't feel a difference from coil load.

The easy way to think of it is if the upper perch is just moving lower on the shock body, but the height of the coil from bottom to top hasn't changed, the ride won't really change (pre load misunderstood). The shaft of the shock will be extended however and the loss of downward travel can make for a rougher ride off road.

If you go beyond that, to the point of compressing the coil, you begin taking away from the flexibility of the coil. In other words if you have a 600 inch pound coil (600 pounds will compress it one inch) and your ride height compressed it an inch already, it takes much more than 600 pounds to compress it further. This is beyond the optimal range and will feel more harsh.

This is the reason why expensive coilovers dont suffer as much from "preload" as 5100s and the like. 5100s use the original progressive rate springs, they have some coils meant to flex easily for a plush ride. That section will compress quickly when trying to squeeze too much lift, leaving you with the harder section of coil to ride on. Expensive coilovers have linear coils, there is only one spring rate and far less chance of creating a harsh ride from increasing height.

There is another factor that I wont go into when ride height has changed the angle of arms too greatly. It causes less range of motion and the tire scrub can feel more abrupt. That is nothing to do with coils but is often mistaken as preload.
