Did some research and found a reasonably priced 40" light bar from a somewhat reputable company. It has a bit of innovation which seems nice, debating on ordering now and seeing it on my shelf a few months or just waiting until Iam closer to building my bumper. Either way I'll need it before i build.

Not sure but I can tell you that most of those bottle openers you would mount on a wall fit perfectly.

Both front and rear magnetic drain plugs looked like this. Lots of metal shavings which I understand are normal (hence the magnets being there). This was the front diff plug which which the worse of the two. Last service change was 32k miles ago. Oil was gray color in nature.

The rear did not look as bad, but the last service was 5k miles ago.

Transfer case had no magnet. Aluminum case doesn’t need?

    upload_2018-9-15_18-35-36.jpg

The shavings goop wiped off onto paper towel.

Diff fluid smells awful doesn't it? Oil smells like oil, trans fluid smells like chemicals, but diff fluid smells rotten.

Reused all the existing plugs and did not need any new washers per stealerships ‘Gruffy Man’ advice.

Test drove about 10 miles and all is well!

Updated all my service records for the 02’ onto a new spread sheet so now its easy to do an ‘at a glance’ look to see what service is next.

Looks like power steering and tranny fluid is next. Never done it. Anyone have some insight. I’ll be watching some youtubes, but would appreciate any inputs.

I bought a case of transmission fluid, pulled the drain plug. Pretty much exactly 4 quarts drains out and refilled. Did that once, after 3k more miles and planning on doing another at 10k. Shifting has definitely improved.

Power steering is next on the list, my plan is to suck it out with a turkey baster and refill with new fluid a couple times.

Trans fluid is as easy as diff or oil. When I refill I turn the motor on and go through the gears one at a time, stopping in each for about 30 seconds (holding the brake) then check fluid level.

Steering fluid flushing got scary when I did it. Thought I cooked my pump when it made noise and shuttered. I would recommend doing the "take out some old, replace with some new" a few times to dilute the old fluid until its clean.

My flush method was: put front end on stands, take out some fluid so I could disconnect and redirect the fluid return line (top one) to a catch can. Then plug the reservoir bung. Fill with clean fluid, put key in "on" but don't turn motor on. Turn wheel all the way left, all the way right, go check fluid and add more, repeat until fluid in catch looks clean. DO NOT let reservoir get anywhere close to empty, top it off with every left/right cycle. When fluid looks good, take some fluid out with syringe or Turkey baster so that you can unplug the bung and reconnect the return line. Fill reservoir to the very top and turn on motor, then turn off and check fluid. If okay, turn on motor and turn wheel, check/fill fluid. Once fluid level seems stable put it on the ground and do a few more left/right/check/add fluid until it is good.

Where does one fill the new fluid for the tranny? Into the dip stick pipe?

As far as the power steering, I think I’ll just do the suck and refill over a long term period rather than a full kill at one time.

Filed a warranty claim on the Michelin LTX M/s2 tires. They are warrantied for 70k and are WAY past half tread at only 35 k miles.

Had the original LTX M/s prior and they lasted the full 70k miles and had 50k left on them by the looks of the tread! Replaced due to (slight) dry rot after 7 years which is understandable.

Looks like Michelin has brought back the old LTX M/S series minus the ‘2’ designation. Probably got too many complaints as I’ve seen online on their website. Read a few people that had the originals like myself and they over performed, then bought the newer version and got crap.

Hahaha. With the 285/75’s I don’t think I could burn out if I tried. Barely made it over a parking curb the other day without straining the engine. Made my wonder about getting a locker, but then said nah.

Yeah those too. If I could muster up the power to diy I’d do those gears. Not worth it for me to pay someone to do it. They seem like a nice option.

Installed LED back up lights and a camera. It took me longer than I expected but I took my time. I wired it all in with a relay and have constant 12v from the battery, and the factory back up lights are used as my relay trigger. Need to clean up the wiring just a tad. But I have a fuse right off of the battery just in case, and everything is run along the drivers side frame rail.

Last pic is picture at night in the rain
