Seems like you're gonna take a huge loss on all this. Why not keep the truck?

How much do you want for those lower control arms?

Ya, I will likely lose money on the parts. However I stand to make more on selling the parts outright rather than install them and lose even more.

A buddy of mine is selling his very clean truck for an absolute screamin deal. Low miles. Mine has 221,xxx and not much room on the inside. I have a kid coming in december and want something with more room and less miles. If it doesn't workout with his truck I will likely keep my tundra.

How's $300 plus shipping for both lower control arms? I don't want to mess up this thread too much, so feel free to PM me to discuss that sir!

    Thanks guys

It’s tough getting pics while solo. I’ll have a copilot this trip so I’ll have her snap a few. I should get some good ones this weekend.

The skids are another story. I’ve tried to “test” them as well as the sliders with no luck, too much clearance. I’ll see what I can do.

Well, I finally decided to tackle pulling my rear axle today to get new bearings, etc. pressed on, and replace the seals. (I’ve been leaking diff. Fluid)

Everything went well until I pulled my axle and saw this-

I’m no expert, but it’s appears the previous owner who did this repair before had everything pressed back incorrectly. (Insert sarcasm here).

Everything is at the shop now with new parts getting pressed on. Hopefully whoever did this job previously didn’t do all the other maintenance on the truck. It was a one owner before I bought it.

Looks like they used a hatchet to press that back on. Can't imagine why it's leaking

In a similar story I just found a receipt from the PO in the glove box from having the RR bearing replaced 2.5 years ago. The same one I had Toyota replace last summer.

Threw this guy in yesterday. Was able to move all this from rear seat under storage since I have two car seats back there and it’s a PITA to get at anything:
    Bungees
    Hitch
    Tow strap
    Cam straps

    Loving it.

I joined TS back in 2012 and would visit frequently whenever I had any kind of issue. I remember it being a super cool community but life gets in the way and I just didn't have the time or $$ to dedicate to this truck. Now that I finally got the bug back that was the first place I went and I felt like the apocalypse happened or something. Almost every thread ended in some smart-ass "use the search feature" or a 3rd gen guy talking noise. Thankfully I stumbled onto this place. This forum may not have the huge database of knowledge that TS had but man, at least you people are cool. What really sucks is that when they did that overhaul almost all of the links are broken and all that killer knowledge seems to have been lost. Oh well, guess its just time for us to figure out all the hard stuff on our own.

It was a slow day at work today so I went through the majority of this thread and figured I'd necro this comment. Here's a couple other things that I noticed:
    • Its pretty cool to see some of these trucks develop in this thread vs the individual build threads.
    • SWalters & Casper have some seriously good looking trucks.
    • I thought I was good at inventing stuff to do, I'm surprised PHM doesn't have a thread titled, "Got a toothbrush? Here's how I cleaned every cross member under the cab."

Aside from the tone ring and everything being beat to crap, the installation order is all wrong.

The order from the outside - in should go bearing > collar > c-clip > ABS tone ring > collar. Yours goes bearing > collar > collar > ABS tone ring. The inner most collar is what should mate to the seal that keeps the gear oil in the axle. Yours essentially had no seal at all. (?) No wonder it was leaking. I'd be giving the gears a good inspection since they were likely run with very little oil in the diff housing.

Also, there's no seal on the bearing.

There's just so much wrong with the way that job was done.

I know. Can’t believe it was done so wrong. There was a decent amount of diff fluid when I drained it and I didn’t hear any noises while driving before I pulled the axle, so hopefully my gears are okay. I’m Waiting to get it back with all the new parts pressed on “correctly.”

I'll probably do similar to what I do with my Accord. 5w in the summer, 0w in the winter. it gets below zero here regularly in the winter.

Replaced the burn up original Lens for the clock. Not as bad as I had thought. Now if only I could get the damn plastic clean. Too bad they’re stained in.

Even with all the miles mines averaging about 35mpg. Use to be a litter higher, but she’s getting tired

I had an 05 corolla xrs. I would get 30 mpg while getting on it everywhere. 216k miles when I sold it and nothing went wrong with it. Cant beat those little cars.

I’d love to have an xrs. That engine is so much fun to play with. Yamaha and Toyota need to do collabs more often.
