Good to know. Anyway for you to find out from Toyota what temperature at which our ‘transmission warning light’ activates?

I’ve researched this pretty well with no real answer. Thank you.

Service manual lists normal operating temp as 158-176 degrees F, and the warning light at 239 degrees F.

Sweet! Never hit the threshold for the light to activate, but if I do I’ll know the temp is 239°.

Seems from readings that most of the light activations occur when in 4wd stuck in sand/mud, or pulling out a heavy vehicle in said situation. Low/no speed and high draw on the engine.

Not sure how people get stuck in sand in our 4wd 1st Gens, but thats another topic.

Thank you for this. I've been monitoring mine for 2 days now and 175 is the highest it's hit. I was going to guess 250 for the warning light.

So I replaced both tailgate cables and I still have the same issue where the right cable is holding all the weight. There has to be a way to adjust this. Doesn't make sense.

I also used 4WD today. My buddy has one hell of a driveway.

Maybe something is bent (tail gate, rear quarter, etc)? Those screws aren’t adjustable from my mammary.

You tried removing the tail gate and reinstalling? That might reset the mojo.

Most likely a slightly bent tail gate

Yeah good call. Maybe undoing the cable and then letting the current tight side hold the weight... while then standing on the undone (loose side) side putting standing pressure will bend it back. Slow pressure with light movements and back testing each try so you do not over bend.

Try a gate removal first to make sure some debris isn’t inside messing up the mojo. Grease up the gate cups and posts real good too while the gates off.

You guys have good ideas and questions. It doesn't look bent but that's the most logical answer. I noticed both hinges circled below are loose. With the tailgate lowered I'm able to move it back and forth, towards the truck and away. Not a ton of movement but enough to notice.

Would look so hot bro. So hot.

You’d keep’em guessing with your shell already having business looks on one side and party looks on the other.

That looseness is inherent in design. Have you tried removing the tail gate before? Its easy if you haven’t. Just unhook those cables you put on. Drop the tailgate farther/lower than it goes with cables connected. Push and lift out the passenger side post? Or driver post where the looseness that you mention resides.

Anyways, one side slips out and the other side can then be pulled out. Set it in the grass because its heavy.

Took the truck in today for an alignment and they can't get it adjusted properly because of "seized" cam bolts. They gave me two quotes, one for new lowers controls arms (includes bushings) and one for replacing the bushings. As well as new cam bolts and what not. $1,200 for bushings or $1,300 for new lowers control arms. I pretty much laughed and said GTF I'll be ordering new lower controls arms for $208 a side but not sure what to do about the cam bolts. Anyone have anything bad to say about SPC cam kit?
