Went camping last week for a few days up in the Eastern Sierras during the fall color season. The shot from inside the truck was on a trail with the scariest hairpin turn on a cliff ive ever done. The photo doesnt do it justice, and more hardcore wheelers might think its nothing. But with manual trans and a bigger truck than most of the jeeps on that trail it was scary to me. Had to do like a 6 point turn to make it down to the lake.

Actually a local told me about a guy that recently had rolled his jeep and died at that exact spot.

If the driver side hose was toast, the passenger side probably is too. I’d replace both. Seems like the driver side top end has more heat under the cover than passenger on the 2UZ so maybe the hose is better but the ends on both of mine were split to fuck.

Photos never do gnarly roads justice. I've taken a lot of photos of crazy roads, only to delete them when I realize they just can't show what it was really like.

    Looks like a great spot!

damn I didn’t know there were two. I did replace the main hose for the PCV valve along with a new one. The foam was shot that covers the valve, is it ok to run it without the foam? I guessing it protects the plastic nipple?

those hoses are not cheap though $56 a piece!

No safety checks here. As long as you pass smog the state is happy, but gassers aren't smog exempt unless its 1975 and older ugh. Wish we had the 15 or 20 year deal like some of ya'll states have :frusty:

Although if you're friendly with the smog guy you get some lenience on old cars:anonymous:

It just goes on the grab handle mount with a longer bolt. And you leave out the trim piece. I still have mine but scared to reinstall after bungling when I swapped the main fuse box for repairing my lame fog anytime.

Yeah I bought mine during a sale, and I think there’s a 25% off sale going on at the Toyota Parts sites. I got mine for $22-24* each as I recall.

I dunno on the foam. I assume it’s foam wrapped to help avoid condensation of oil from vapor when it’s icy cold outside.

Hose number 1 has a foam cover as does the PCV valve. Hose number two one early FGTs was just a hose and on later models has a sleeve.

Look for the rubber hose coming out of the valve cover right around cylinder 4 (2nd cyl from front, passenger side)

I’m on a plane or I’d dig up a pic.

OK, I'm starting this with a pure shock value shot.... see what I did there?
Zero rebound, pushed in with about 1lb of force
    20241019_125728.jpg

Here was my method right out of the gate, per MI rust belt. One disc per side, didn't need to go all the way, I just got through about 2/3 of the nut.
They actually looked better than I was expecting. Did not have to remove wheels as she sits awful high with the crazy HD bastard packs.
Access: Passengers from the outside, Drivers from underneath.
    20241019_111908.jpg

    20241019_125813.jpg

I took advantage of the disintegrated dust shields and clamped right on the cylinder shaft. Took a bit of slipping/scuffing until it grabbed on tight.
Ooooh and my favorite 16" stainless  pipe cheater too. (It's my MI fetish)
    20241019_113200.jpg

Not sure if the towers are "swollen" from rust, but it was a tight fit to get enough threads to start the top nut on.
In fact I sacrificed about 1/8 of an inch with the flap disc on the bushing just to get the nut started on the drivers side.
I used needle nose visegrips to make holding it easy. Not sure about the tightening. I went until it basically stopped.
But I didn't see the smoosh I expected on the bushings :notsure:, may need to revisit them. Nope, not gonna do that...
    20241019_121503.jpg

Everything bathed in FluidFilm, bonus coating on the Diff/axle, new BellCranks, and that barnacle LSPV.
Truck sits so high, I (a 6'3" dude) can nearly sit straight up under there w/o the spare tire, that was nice.
About 2hrs worth, pretty pleased with that. I was filthy though... some A-hole has everything coated in motor oil under there :rofl:
I do Love the smell of that Lanolin o_O

    Holy smokes. That's some rust.

I genuinely wish I knew how bad my frame was before it got replaced. (before the truck was mine) Your axle housing looks way better than mine does. Like, way better. The underside of your bed looks better than mine too... I have a feeling that my frame was bad. Real bad.

HAhaha yeah! Sad thing is, I bet when I drive it I won't feel ANY difference. In fact after I bought them I had a fleeting thought, with the trucks ass end so high, if they would limit out on droop :eek2:
We will see, I will report the results... and thx for the nomination :rolleyes:

My bed has holes in it. I did some remediation.. and quick put the liner back in :lalala:
I guess I could have waited a couple more years and just accessed those shocks from the top, through the bed:rofl:

Oh, you’ll be pleasantly surprised at the difference it makes. All those jolts going over even the smallest of bumps/potholes goes away. I didn’t believe it myself until I changed my original rear shocks over a year ago.
