    IMG20240527144451.jpg Well I ran out of primers for the front side of the skid pan. But I got all the important spots covered and sanded, and covered again. I'll just do a good fine sanding on it before paint I guess.

    @JakeJake what say yee?

    And I used an enamel based tractor paint for those parts because of that exact reason.

    Unfortunately I'm tied up until August or so. After that I have some smaller jobs scheduled for Aug-Oct. I'm playing with the idea of a 30-50 day west coast climbing trip from Halloween to Christmas, but that is dependent on sneaking in all the needed tundra maintenence before then.

    So all that is to say Im very interested, but if I don't take some me time this year I'll go insane. It's looking more and more like I'm going to dive into tundra bumpers and sliders early next year.

    She'll clean up nice. Hit it with a bit of finish bondo to even it out if your looking to blend it

    How structurally bad is that center holey and delaminated area that seems to run a few inches long? Would it withstand some sandblasting to bare metal and then maybe some stranded fiberglass filler or will it need patch welded to keep integrity?

    Probably a patch. It’s rusted on the inside and I haven’t even touched that area yet.

    Weirdly, my passenger side is rust free but I think it’s because I replaced the whole door at 5k miles and it was spray painted inside unlike the original door.

    If he wasn't up in Boston I'd offer to cut it out and weld it up for him. Send him off with some fat beads, ground flush, and primered up

    I’m wondering if it’s possible to take the skin from my existing door and put it onto another used one. That would be an even easier solution. I’m sure I can find a dented silver sky colored door at a salvage yard.

    Edit: Nevermind, that’s a crapload of work.

    Well off to the store. This paint didn't last in the can. It sperated overnight and even after a 3 minute shake this morning. It was pigment and not really cover that sprayed out. Had 3/4 of a can left, but it's trash so off to get more paint I guess. If you can see them there's a bunch of base primer showing through.IMG20240528100807.jpg IMG20240528100740.jpg IMG20240528100756.jpg IMG20240528100751.jpg IMG20240528100746.jpg

    It's a shame about that tractor paint, I've always had good luck using it in the past. Hell I used to paint the pistol targets at the range with it. It always held up the best, well as best a steel target getting shots gonna hold up anyhow.

    Well now we're gonna try this...IMG20240528115911.jpg

    Gonna paint the inside of the pan. The front is going to have to set over night and cure. Then be sanded down acetoned down and repainted. Oh joy.

    Well that paint is complete shit. 10 outta 10 do not recommend. Primer was sanded down with 400 grit, alcoholed down, microfiber lint free. Was debris free when I started. Can had massive air pockets in it 3 minute shake. Sprayed at optimal air temps.... We'll see for yourselves. Oh and the fucking over spray, dear God the over spray.IMG20240528121223.jpg IMG20240528121231.jpg IMG20240528121239.jpg IMG20240528121245.jpg IMG20240528121302.jpg

    I know it's the inside but for fuck sake 11 bucks a can. Not fucking happy

    Rustoleum Satin Black matches frame and underbody parts perfectly and doesn’t require an undercoat. But also works if you spray one.

    Well I figured out why I was getting decent gas milage. Well turns out my RPMs were waaaay the fuck off. I am reading 4mph faster than I'm actually doing, confirmed via 2 separate GPS units and off my OBD port engine speed read out. But here's today's MPG report.
