Yeah apparently. Just needs more sealant. It lasted a few years I guess.

I put sealant on the metal opening before clicking the clips in so the base of the clip is sealed. Then a dab over the screw hole before putting the screw back in. No leaks in 10 years since.

Ok, so ... edited my post above to say: You've got two used (but solid condition) clips incoming, and there's absolutely no way the OEM clips can drip from the screw/fastener hole in the clip, there's no exit hole. So water purely comes from the seal between the plastic clip and cowl hole. I think you just need a better sealant, and it won't really help putting sealant over the hole if there's no way for water to pass thru.

I think the little piece of cheap, thin foam they prodive is a huge part of the problem, especially if you don't snap them in far enough. As I saw from the ones I pulled out also, you can't really re-use, half of mine were brittle enough to crack off one of the retention clips during removal.

Meh, I dove in w/o. You'll be fine.

Don't use silicone, at least not with ammonia, it'll promote/cause rust. PHM swore by Fuze It, which is a Liquid Nails adhesive product.

Whatever you put on there, use a plastic razor or something to cut it off, then go over the area extensively with rubbing alcohol before next application.

Yeah I just hoped the rubberish seals on the new clips would be good enough.

Hmm hadn't heard that before, was thinking of just sending it with some RTV because I already have it. Maybe I should go with something different.

I think somethign that hardens but remains semi-flexible would be perfect. I think that's what PHM said that stuff is. "Flexible adhesive".

Yeah I think 2005-06 had it. unless I'm misinterpreting what "trac" and the little car sliding light means. I had never heard of the Auto LSD this truck has either until I picked it up yesterday. I wonder if its better or worse than just a mechanical LSD.

Both? it seems to be mostly black cloth, maybe fading a little. I'm actually going to miss my bench seats and the middle space, it was a great safety feature for my big dog too. In sudden braking he never flew to the front

Thank you for the tips n tricks Shifty, I will let you know what I find.

I will try that product out thanks, my topper still has a good amount of shine, it would look weird with the dull white.

Thanks man, the paint definitely has some unseen issues, drivers fender has some surface iron rusting all over it and there are plenty of scratches that need to be taken care of but the photo hid them well.

I’ve got an Ethics question for the group. I wanted to buy a Tundra from a guy 10 hours away. We’ve been going back and forth about when/where we can meet. 2006 limited (wood/leather) AC. 150,000 miles and very clean inside and out for $11,000. I told him it had to have a new timing belt- he checked and it was the original so he replaced it. found out it needs new brakes and tires, but will keep the price the same as he paid for the timing belt.

He asked me if I wanted to pay to replace the badly cracked windshield, I said yes, and his family replaced it for $500-700 including labour, of which I haven’t paid anything.

Now I want to bail on this truck all together. I like the guy, and don’t want to fuck him over, but what do I owe him? Imagine you’re in his position- just paid for the windshield- and my position- paying for a windshield I will never see.

He’s obligated to insure it’ll pass inspection unless selling “as is” goes up to the asking price. Sort of surprised he was willing to replace the belt when that should’ve been on you. Not sure what to say myself. Guess you have no choice but to give him the bad news.

I was intimidated by it too. I waited forever to do it and kicked myself for nott doing it sooner, because I ended up having to replace my blower motor, due to the water ruining it.

Shoot the guy straight just like you did here. Theres a happy medium in there somewhere. He will likely make his money back selling a better truck than he had before, but if I were in that situation I would be willing to throw the guy a couple hundo for his time/troubles.

Yeah, I wouldn’t have been interested if I had to drive home on that 20 year old belt.

I feel obligated to pay for something, he asked me and I said yes. I couldn’t just not pay if this was an any sort of business, but he will still own it afterwards.
    I see 4 options.
    #1.) Pay full ($700)
#2.) pay materials not labor ($460)
    #3.) pay 50/50 ($350)
#4.) or pay nothing. (probably still $100)

I’ve got major guilt over this and will go with what the group majority thinks haha

Should I put you down as #3.) 50/50?

I have time this weekend so maybe if I find the box of parts it makes the cut. I want to get the Gentex mirror done in the Tundra as well and I’m tempted to try to get seat heat or heated mirrors going in the tundra and maybe heated mirrors in the Tacoma. I’ll review the list of mods.

Also super intent on yellr box for the ‘05 and doing permatex gasket on both trucks to seal the harness entry up.

Definitely want to clean up a couple of things on the ‘16.

probably won’t get very much done at all but always good to make some progress.

Would a conditional offer make everyone happy that covers the cost if it can't be recovered from another buyer by selling the better truck at a higher price?
