Don’t go down that road or you’ll be painting your wheels gold to match and wearing gold rings/chains.

I've been driving vehicles with cracked windshields for 25 years. Apparently the Tundra is a nice enough truck to attract the Highway Patrol. Although, I suspect the officer just wanted to chat about the truck since he asked questions like, "how much did you buy it for", "was the timing belt replaced" and "how is the frame rust?" o_O Geeze man, I just wanted to go get taco's for lunch.
    PXL_20240303_214121766.1.jpg

So I did what makes most Toyota people uncomfortable and went to the shop and let somebody touch my truck to install a windshield. I also reattached the driver door side trim and clipped some eBay hub covers on the wheels. To my surprise the wheel covers actually look decent and included the Toyota sombrero.

Who did you go with? Independent glass shop? I'm somewhat amazed my 22 year old windshield has no chips or cracks. It's got a fair amount of scratches though.

Mine has been cracked so long the cracks are starting to bubble. As long as it's not imparing the drivers view, it's legal in TX.

I used a local glass shop. Kind of spendy, but I have had good luck with their installs in the past. The windshield that was replaced was already an aftermarket, so who knows how many windshields this truck has had.

I had to replace the original glass on my 1999 Land Cruiser at 315k miles. Damn gravel truck passed me and put a whopper of a crack on that otherwise clean glass  I was not happy.

Yes! That is how my past vehicles have been. So much grime gets in the crack that the sun no longer glares off of it. The Kansas statute quoted on the warning leaves a lot of open ended interpretation on what "substantial damage to the window" really is.

Dude, I had a pristine windshield until a few camping trips ago. Going down the highway, got behind a gravel truck and got a nice crack on my beautiful windshield. I was pissed too

I called a local dealer and found that ARE still sells the rubber seal for my topper windows. It's $4/foot which comes out to around $50/side. That's pricey but I'm trying to get mine to leak less.

    PXL_20240314_212745597.jpg

Does anyone know why they leave this gap on both sides?

I got my china special double bulb from Amazon that I need to install on the bed rails.

I would guess the gap would be where a lock assembly would go or something like that

Any idea if they sell the rubber seal that goes around the entire side perimeter of the cab underneath both front and rear suicide doors?

It's not, but that would have made sense. The gap is right in the middle of the window.

I'm talking about the ARE dealer. For my camper shell.

Ditto, lots of haze. I've been threatening to do the cerium oxide polish-out on the windshield. I thought it was a gimmick based on other videos, but if it worked for Sarah'n'tuned, then I'm assuming it'll work for me.

A while back I saw a post of yours stating as such and I was bummed. Both of my side windows are hella hazed from years of living in the land of dust and I thought replacement was my only option. Let us know how the cerium polishing works out for you.

That's where the two ends meet. over time the gasket shrinks & the ends pull away from each other if not glued. If glued it pulls out of the corners as it shrinks.
Back in the Saab 900 days one would get 1 new gasket or used from junkyard gasket, cut the glued joint, reseat the gasket tucking it into the corners where you now had a leak, & cut a length from your 'new' gasket to fill in the gap you ended up with after reseating. It was a common problem on the rear 1/4 windows & a wet rear carpet would let you know it was time to do this.
Short answer - window gaskets shrink. A lot.

Funny side note. I found my extra length of left over gasket one sunny day. Thought I to myself, wonder if this stuff would work on my Bilco doors, make them a little more weather tight. Yup, fit's like a charm, grabs right onto that lip, makes everything tight, tight, tight.

Bought one a few weeks ago to do my wheel bearings. Worked great, no problems.

When it went on sale I took my receipt to Harbor Freight and they refunded me the difference between what I paid and the sale price.
