I drove to Summit Racing in Georgia for a front bumper. Man that place has a lot of temptation! IMG_4210.jpg I got the black painted one and I think I will bedliner it before I put it on.

Its a great store, easy to get to, always a few cool rides in the parking lot, and it really doesn't matter what time of the day you go, there's always plenty of customers in there waiting on parts pickup. I remember when it originally opened, it was a couple years after I officially moved to ATL, and right around the time I was neck deep into my late 60s C10. First trip to the store was offputting. I was expecting to walk into a place where I could physically put my hands on boxes and check-out, but ffound it more of a "3D display catalog" setup. Staff is always friendly, ample in numbers, and they're usually pretty quick.

I may end up doing the same as you. I've been thinking about ditching the chrome and going back to paint-matched bumper. I've got a single-stage rattle can of 056-Natural White I picked up from Automotive Touch-Up that needs to be used...

So is the idea that you’d get some aftermarket armor and paint that white or what?

That’s not true. Half moons are found at the front and the back of each head under the valve cover gaskets

EDIT: you are referring to tube seals

I don't think I'll ever install armor on my truck. Given its uses-since-purchase and intended future, I don't see a need. I use it purely for outdoor stuff (fishing, hauling, trail stuff, potentially camping soon). I feel like there's quite a bit of disparity between how east coast folks use their trucks versus what y'all folks in the SSW use yours, and given I'm not crawling, like ever, bobbing and armor haven't been remotely on my radar.

Cam seals are rubber IIRC, and at the front of the block. Half moons are just a chunk of alloy that get FIPG'd in at the rear.

I do, but I'd rather spend it decking out everything behind the cab moving forward, with hopes of maybe hitting a few days out on the AT w/o the kids by spring? Get a couple of dry runs in with the Tundra before maybe looking to do something with @FirstGenVol or anyone else that's ready in the GA/TN/NC/SC/AL area. I also have a lot of creature comforts inside the cab that've waited waaaaay too long to wrap up which need to get done.

It's been a year or two since we last hit Three Forks and I've been wanting to drag the truck up there again for a minute.

When you get up that far north, there is also another really neat trail that runs along the original C&O railroad. Harpers Ferry West Virginia is a really beautiful place to camp

Just remember @shifty` the most important thing for trail running on a truck are skid plates and sliders.
Everything else is just to be fancy. Just make sure someone in the group has a winch and tow straps haha

I'd love to check out all the public American offroading trails. I know there's quite a few. Rubicon trail being the only one I know by name. Perhaps Yukon trail maybe? Oregon trail?

Same here, it’s sort of overkill but it’s more of an aesthetics and deer-country thing for me. On the first point, I just think they look awesome and one saved my bacon in my 1991 B2600i 4x4 in high school; on the second point, I have a really nice truck that I could easily get 10+ years out of and I’d hate to have some dang whitetail buck chasing tail ruin that by him deciding to try to live in my engine bay. Plus it should pair nicely with my South Texas pinstripes from mesquite trees.

Yeah, I mean, that would be the extent of my needs. That's the one up-in-the-air thing at the moment, is whether I get sliders or not. I think I want to use the truck a little more just to see how much practical use they'd have.

I'm not a hardcore hiker/backpacker type, we just like being out in nature, hitting 10-20 mile hikes daily, anywhere with water and wildlife so you're not just staring at bushes. Three Forks and the surrounding AT trails are great, one of those sweet spots for us we've liked more than most in GA @@ https://www.atlantatrails.com/three-forks-georgia/

We'd also love to be a bit more mobile to make our way up to western NC in the next couple of years and spend a week or two out, comfortably, with 60lb dog in tow.

There are a ton of USFS/USDA service roads throughout that hook into Three Forks, some are as nice as what you see in this video, around 1m10s mark, others you really should have 4WD if you want to get through, all depends what you're in for and how far from ppl you want to get. We managed fine with our Highlanders over the years during the younger-child-ages, but there were a few times where I was, like, "Damn, not in the truck today, let's pass..." The specific section we personally like to hit, where there's pretty much streams on either side of the road, isn't as nice or clean as the video
