Adjustment is made with the Star adjuster. It only spins one way unless you lift the little locking lever on the back side. The way it spins without having to lift the locking lever is to adjust the pads outward.

I just adjusted about 20 clicks then put the drums back on to test fit. If the drum was too tight I turned the adjuster back 3 clicks and repeated the drum test until it was snug but not overdone.

I could feel my front brakes doing all the work recently. After adjustment, the rears are back doing their share

Little bit of sound proofing this weekend,if weather permits.

I have 3 in thick dense foam we had leftover at work, that's going (in the door skin). Then the Noico going in between the door panel and the door.
    Stay tuned . Lol

They use whatever they can get that’s cheapest. I went to the local dealership to get OEM trans fluid and they tried to sell me federated auto parts ATF

Ditto. Unless you know a tech the work there can be pretty bad. There’s few good techs (I try to be. Lol I treat every car like it was mine.)

Sound deadening is the project after body work. Reg cabs pretty loud inside compared to my Avalon! Lol. (And the sound system sucks!)

    Yeah
Warranty work, I get it, make money on it. That's fine.

But when it's (customer pay) all the parts you get from the parts department, should be used .

We use new parts only unless it’s a big part like trans or engine. Then you get the option. The mark up is absurd though

What you’ll notice is that your stereo will sound much better. The cab will be quieter depending on how much you do. In my case, it was a little at a time. The doors make the greatest impact on the stereo sound performance. Sound deadening is the secondary effect.

Something I knew about years ago when my parking brake still worked and got used a lot (because it still worked) was that using the parking brake actually self adjusts that ‘star adjuster’. I had forgotten that these rear brakes are self adjusting until watching Timmea Toyota vids last night.

The other day when I was cleaning the brakes and tried tightening the parking brake, I inadvertantly adjusted the brake shoes by cranking on the parking brake which never gets used. Hence, why my shoes seemed adjusted when putting the drums back. I (falsely) attributed the better braking to doing a brake fluid change that day.

Conclusion: Give your parking brake a few pumps to self adjust the rear shoes/drums.

They (my stealer) also use 75-90w diff oil in the rear which is spec’d to either 90w or 80-90w depending on your climate.

    Why?

Also, trying to talk to the mechanic and get past the service person thats usually rude is nearly impossible at a stealer. Seems like those mechanic guys are overworked and want to stay away from stupid people asking stupid questions about their truck. Hoot!

Yeah they are ridiculous, I stopped going there even for oil changes one day when I looked in the service bay and saw the biggest stoner that I went to high school with who had just recently got out of jail for theft working at Toyota. No way in hell was I going to let him or his coworkers touch my truck.

I drove into the local dealer to buy some oil filters a while back and three techs were ripping a 2 foot bong in the parking lot.

In my experience working lube shops and at a dealership maintennce shop, 1/2 techs toke and some do it at work. We used to have "Sunday Fun Day" because the boss was off that day and the dude left in charge was an alcoholic and it was slow by about 2pm on Sundays... So we would send someone to the store for Dos Equis and a rillo and then hang out in the pit til a customer showed up lol

Got one door done. I put the thick foam every place it would fit. I put the foil sound proofing sheets on the outter door skin and the inner door skin.
The door sounds so solid now. Better than my Mercedes.
I'm ordering more material for the floors and roof.

Depending on your location I'd skip the foam in the doors. I'm sure it makes a huge difference in sound deadening but here in NWPA you'd have rotted out doors in a couple years from it holding moisture.

Sunny San Diego. I'm up on top of a big hill surrounded by only a few houses and they are family. So I leave my windows open and doors unlocked. Not to worried about moisture.

I need to do mine soon, waiting until I can get a hold of a lock actuator for the passenger side. Looks good.

How much of the 36sqft of Noico did the one door use? How much more do you plan on buying?

Yeah I wanna say that helped my brakes. But to not enough. I did that and I also even did the reverse back and forth parking brake / brake pedal shuffle. Still didn’t feel good enough for me. So a quick hour to manually adjust the star and a good cleaning, they’re much better. (It excused me from having to go to the gym that day too! Haha )

For the one door I used two sheets.
The 36 sqft is plenty for all four doors.

Ive only done one door,I'm picking my son up from school right now. I'll do the other doors this weekend.
But driving on the freeway that one door is quite.

I just ordered more. I'm doing the floor and roof

Sweet. Keep up updated on the amount needed for doors, floor and roof for a DC. Not sure if I’ll tackle the roof but definitely the floor, back wall and doors. Nice work Jerry!

Pulled off HVAC blower motor to investigate a possible filter addition. Took off the motor housing door clip and squirted some pneumatic oil in on the bottom cup. Took some pics to access what things look like inside and discovered the coil fins are clogged at the point where the blower wheel is most directed. Sprayed some silicone on the coils and will come back and do another spray down with water and vacuum the coils. Everything is pretty tight in there and its a delicate operation without bending the fins.
