Did you pay someone to do it? Dropping the tank sounds like a pain.

One time mine acted up was after a trip to the mountains where I was on a really rough road. I thumped it with a mallet and it didn't do it again for about a year. My truck hates it if I short stroke the starter. I have to let the truck sit for a minute before trying again. It will roll over but seems really angry with me. I apologize to her and move on.

It looks better than my truck when I didn’t have holes that rusted through. That bed liner wore down the paint on the raised section much worse than yours.

i thought the 1gt has to drop the tank, as the pump is under the cab?

Maybe we can get @Tundra2 to post a pic of when he had his bed off but I'm pretty sure the fuel pump is accessible with the bed removed. People have posted pictures in the past.

PHM dropped his tank but said it required hand yoga.

Gotta love the design where water between the bed and cab is meant to puddle around the opening of the gas tank cover that hides the fuel pump.

Yep. Gasoline is one thing I hate dealing with. Dropping the tank is a pain, always thought it would be easier to take the bed off.

I think it was $250 to get it done? Not including parts, but all I bought was the motor, pump filter, and tank gasket; which wasn't too much $$ either.

Pro tip: After you hit those seams with a deck brush to get the crap out the corners, hit it with some spray-on, qipe off hybrid wax. Assuming you weren't gonna already. I love this stuff:

Location of pump-to-cab varies based on year and cab type IIRC.

And I dunno, someone on here got onto me when I said "pull the bed", he dropped the tank, said it was only two straps and took 15 minutes. Easier to do when the tank is <1/4 full, though that's not always an option. Have a short span of 2x (2x12 ideal) that's a foot long or so with a jack helps a lot.

It's probably easier than it looks. I always thought the real PITA was disconnecting everything before dropping the tank. Not a lot of room in there.

The filler hose is supposedly the real bitch on the 1GT. And unfortunately, if it doesn't remain sealed ... EVAP CODES! Yay!

And there was that TSB for leaky/cracked/defective filler necks for some years too, I think '03-'04?

I remember someone saying there is an electrical connector you can't see but have to unclip blind. Hence the hand yoga.

You and I are probably the only ones anal enough to wax our beds. :anonymous:

I'll admit I've done it and it only took 20 minutes once I had the bed clean.

RCLB can be accessed by removing the bed, AC not so much. The access panel to the pump is indeed under the cab.

I dropped the tank on my AC. Well, not intentionally...one of the tank straps rusted and the tank almost left the chat on its own. When I got new straps I discovered that the tank had numerous rust holes leaking small amounts of fuel. Ever since I got my truck I had been smelling fumes, and throwing the occasional evap code. Once I had a new non-leaking tank (Dorman), no more fumes, and no more codes! I replaced the fuel pump while the tank was out because it would have been irresponsible not to. The filler pipe, and vent pipe are easily disconnected at the tank rather that the filler neck. The fuel lines require a special too to disconnect. Hand yoga is definitely required, but if you're lucky enough to have your tank drop out there's a lot more room to see.

This was the moment that inspired me to carry a fire extinguisher in my truck...

No doubt, and as long as you're not waxing your anal, I think we can hang out and have beers any time. :rimshot:

You can't remove the pump with the bed off or it's just really tight?

I dropped the tank on mine. It was pretty easy. There is a lot of slack in the electrical connector, enough that you can lower it almost to the ground without tugging on it, so don't bother with unclipping it blind, just bring it down on a jack, with that a-for mentioned 2x12 under it.

Where I got in trouble, was putting it back.

To take it off, you can just tap out some pins and it's no problem. But to but it back, you have to loosen two bolts. Put the tank back, re-pin the straps, and then tighten the bolts to tension those straps. If you can't loosen them, you can never get the pins back in.

Problem was, one of my bolts was seized and broke off. That was a pain.

FYI: loosen the two bolts first, its easier to pull the pins.

Bonus: you'll know if one is fubar before you get too far.

Of course the rust comes up from the underneath, so...
both pic, the top is tailgate end of the bed. Way more rust under than shows from the bed.
I now 'clean' under the new bed by keeping it coated in Fluid Film &/or Woolwax.

So, this will prolly get lost in the vastness of you all, but…

Weighed ours today, empty weight (with me, wifey and the pup) under 5100 lbs…
    Is that normal or unusual?

Also topped off the gas bucket today, had way under the last mark on the gauge, but it still took over 19 gallons to fill it…
Does it have a 21 gallon tank? Hollie Mollie…!!!

My 2wd was 4700lbs with a full tank iirc.

Tank is actually 26 gallons iirc. Light comes on around 20 for me.
