It’s a 5 channel and RC so hoping to toss the passive crossovers. Hence looking for 3 numbers. Tweeter high pass, mid band pass low cutoff, sub low pass.

Reminds me I also need to tune my 5 channel amp. The bass is waaaay too much for the rest of the speakers. I just have the sub set to -7dB on the head unit for now. Seems to have helped a lot.

Amp crossovers typically won't have a HP filter high enough for a tweeter.

Although looks like your 1&2 channels do.

With components, it's typically best to stick with the mfg. crossover unless you have a separate channel fed by an EQ and know how to tune it. Usually requiring a mic, software and the know how. But then were talking SQ comp setup.

Cmon dude, don’t be a wuss. This isn’t competition bs. I just want to dump the passives. Passives are ok but JL 5 channel is superior. I have a VX1000/5i for the ‘16, this is warmup stiff here with XD.

I’ll look up the specs on these.

When did they change to the bigger ball joint 03 or 04? You can run ARP bolts on them. They're a bit overpriced, but I run them myself. Need to take another look at them. I think they lack some of the rustproofing.

Do you know if the implement an FIR vs an IIR filter for the crossover filtering?

I’ll have to read up. But, to a certain degree, I don’t give too many F’s. Just trying to eliminate extra parts really. Those crossovers are large marge. Amp is nice and compact and necessary for the sub anyway.

Well if the passives are 3400, then set to 3400 and you're good.

    :rockband:
    :headbang:

I actually wrote that last bit before I went back and saw your amp had the x10 modifier for two channels.

Gonna give it a try once I have the sub going. I think I’m pretty close. Finish the sub box install (binding post, sub, grille) then run some speaker wire and finally I’ll have to hook up the power lead which is currently orphaned in the engine bay. Seems like this amp can’t handle any larger than 4 gauge and the power and ground cable seem to have survived 20 years so I’ll give them a go. It’s labeled as OFC so maybe halfway decent.

The old speaker cable is mostly garbage though so I’ll redo the tweeter and mid feeds. The sub 12 gauge seems like the only decent cable I bought. This would have been 20 years ago so I was 28 ish.

I also see how I trimmed the door panel speaker grille plastic to eliminate the mid hitting it.

Damn I do love this truck.

I was just curious. FIR filters have the advantage of offering perfect linear phase when they roll off.

That 5 channel amp won't do it. If you want to do active crossover you would need a 4 channel amp just for the fronts, unless you're eliminating the rear speakers. Then 5 channel would be fine.

Regular cab. As in the right cab. As in no back seat. As in 8’ bed. As in rip the fader out and toss it in the trash :)

I contemplate an 8 channel for the Tacoma since it’ll have 4 drivers per side but doubt I’ll do that given I’m already in on the other 5 channel and it’s nice to have just one amp. I might go with a 5 and a 2 since I have a nice xd 2 channel.

What @NickB_01TRD said. I believe your truck has the smaller bolts, in that case you want bolts from ARP (#673-1004) or Toyota black bolt (#90119-10933).
Can read up about it here if you're interested https://spikerengineering.com/lbj-bolt-testing-winners-and-losers

I've never bothered to get a Yellowbox, I just drive like a Grandpa on the street. Looks like you got it figured out though :)

Marv told me to get my head outta my arse and use the pioneer in network mode for the crossover. Hah. So I just have to run a third RCA line for the sub and skip all filtering in the amp. Slick plan.

Just replaced boots, springs, and coil seals on 2nd and 4th coils passenger side front to back. Those 2 didn't have the coil seals and moisture had reached the boot, coloring it rusty. I meant to this a while back but had forgotten to take care of it. Easy peasy lemon squeezy. No pics cuz I has the lazy.

    Hah, speedo dead again. Classic.

Ah, easy fix. Connector popped out when smashing the kick panel in. Need those crossovers gone.

Oh, and dip switch #6 doesn't hold on so I'm not getting the correction I need. May try tape. Who knew speed was so difficult.

Hate the knobs, the rest is awesome.

    About this ...

I'll never knock you on what your ear says works for you, but...

... this is the ballpark of where I start with my personal setups. It all depends on what's upstream, whether any crossovers are inline, and how I'm wiring to the components at the other end of the wire.

I'd also urge you to get some input from @robabeatle; I've mentioned it before, tuning isn't my thing, I always liked doing the installs, designing enclosures, etc. but he's crazy about tuning. I never tuned any vehicles we entered. Tuning is an art, I dial in logically then go by ear from there. I'd expect him to reco tossing a DSP into the mix.

Yeah, my 4660 apparently can do all this. So I’ll just need another pair of RCA and I can tune in real time. Yay.
