What did I do to my 1st gen Tundra today? Dropped it off at the shop for the P1442 code.

Didn’t want to pay to get it done professionally with the insurance money?

That may be a scary expensive fix. I'd just bypass it.

I'm prepared for the cost. I bought the truck in 2021 with 86K miles for $9000 (thanks dad), so if I have to put another $1000-$1500 into it, I'm still ahead. The bypass sounds like a less expensive fix, but I'd feel more comfortable running the truck as it was designed. That's just me and how my brain works.

    Wise choice.

That looks f'n amazing. I know I'm always the guy who harps about this, but I hope you used a proper respirator with that stuff. It's amazing, but it'll kill you faster than normal rattlecans.

I was today years old when I discovered there’s a right and wrong way to hook up your lower rad hose… the PS pump pulley and serpentine hadn’t cut through the hose when I caught it checking my oil level. 25$ at LAPS and back on the road 30 minutes later. Lucky I was in my buddies driveway, lucky it hadn’t cut through, and lucky I still had all my tools in the truck.

Knocked out a bunch of little stuff today.
    • Installed the camera portion of the Master Tailgaters 1GT replacement tailgate latch. Works great and would totally recommend this as a replacement if your OEM latch breaks like mine was when I bought it. If your OEM latch isn't busted but you want a backup camera and want to mount it in the tailgate handle (gives you a better vantage point in my opinion than the license plate frames or bumper mounted ones)--ESPECIALLY if yours is paint-matched--I would do the mod where you drill a tiny hole in your tailgate handle and run the camera through there. I also followed his advice on routing the camera wires and it looks great. Next up will rewire the lights on the cap/topper/camper shell which I realized today were cut at some point inside the driver rear brake light housing.
    • Uninstalled my Boss head unit ordered from Crutchfield when the Carplay function intermittently, and then totally, stopped working. Crutchfield is sending me another unit. Best customer service in the business and if you aren't ordering stereo stuff from them (and don't already have a good shop) you really should consider it.
    • Installed the aluminum rear window latch replacements. First one took forever and sucked azz, the second one took like five minutes. Had to drill mine out like this guy did but not as extensively since first I crushed the hell out of the original pins holding them in a pair of pliers and then hitting the jaws with a hammer until the pins "closed" all the way. After that I just lubed the pins and then ran a drill bit around inside the new latches for a few seconds. Totally recommend AC owners getting a pair of these and just having them for when your POS OEM latch hinges absolutely will break any second now. 01DBBF93-B623-4360-B4AA-4934BF4FB40D.jpg
    • Beat my rusted-on trailer hitch out. Filed the inside of the hidden hitch and sprayed the heck out of it with some rust-inhibitor, then easily slid the hitch back in and re-pinned it. Was thinking I was going to have to heat it up but just a few days of hitting it with PB Blaster's rust penetrator then maybe a hundred whacks with a five-pound sledge and she was free. Miraculously found the locking pin key in the glove box when I put the new insurance card in. Was thinking I was going to have to use some pipe to pop it off (watch videos of this, it's ridiculously easy for crooks or used cars guys.....er, crooks, to get these off). Will remove the whole hidden hitch and do some rust treatment on it then repaint it when I clean and ospho the undercarriage. Preemptively sprayed the rust penetrator on any bolt I am thinking of removing in the future.
    • Got some pics of the I-think-OEM timing belt just changed at 42k. It actually looks dang good, just some fraying at the sides but no cracks or anything. Would be easy to mix up with a new one if you weren't paying attention. If it were a serpentine belt you'd never have changed it.

Oh and I swapped out the garage-door opener in my overhead console for the sunglass holder. Really easy to remove the little door. PO had the sunglasses one in his glovebox too with the trailer hitch key and all original manuals and even the salesman's business card.

No. I did auto body work for 10 years way in the past. I got all the used parts, supplies etc. for around $1k. Insurance check should be $3-4,500. It's a 19 year old truck with almost 250k on it. My repairs will be more than enough quality.

Yup. One of the reasons I got out of the auto body industry 15+ years ago was the health & safety aspect. I was young, educated & trained. I always wore the proper ppe. Crazy to see some of the ol timers...

Thanks, it fits with the rest of the truck. Looks nice from a distance, but it's no show queen.

Weird, is this on a 1st Gen / 2000-2006? That's what this thread is dedicated to, as referenced in the title.

Of all the best-gen trims I’ve seen
    My favorite is the Platinum;
    Your SR5 and Limited? Scrap!
You might as well just flatten ‘em.

Hey guys, I decided to step out of my dark corner to share that I did something on the Tundra. I just hit 140k on the odometer and decided I needed to stop pushing my luck with the feared pink milkshake.

This is a champion brand radiator and it installed very easy. I had to cut the tabs that hold it in place to get the mounting bolts to line up, but that was very easy. I liked that it retained the trans cooler/heater lines. You just need two -6an to barb fittings. I didn't see anything about needing those fittings before.

I've had good luck with the champion brand so far with my LS swapped Firebird. I'm hoping to continue that same luck.

I like the pusher fan too. It really helps the A/C on the 100°+ days when I'm idling.

Here's the FireTurd only because you asked lol.
It has a 6.0L cammed LS and I converted it from an auto to a manual 6 speed. It makes almost 3x the HP the old 305 in it made. I have a Procharger waiting to go on it sometime this summer.:spending:

Damn. They still delivered it. You’d think they’d just claim it was damaged in transit and give you whatever it was worth. Either that or notify the seller and say it wasn’t packaged correctly to be dropped off the back of the truck while doing 30 mph.
