Is the breaker needed or just for precaution?

Eh just a precaution I guess, supposedly solenoids can fail closed and you don’t have any control…….

It happens, not often but the breaker is cheap insurance.

Generally they fail open mostly because they're intermittent use. Only one I've seen was on a 36v scrubber back when I worked janitorial.

I'm equally confused. I have no beef with my brakes. It's usually the DC guys I hear bitching and I'm just, like, "glad I didn't get a DC"

Unfortunately I don't remember the exact number, but I think I snapped 2-3 of each so I usually reco buying half dozen of each.

8 hours later and both lower control arms are done. This job is substantially easier when you don't have to cut out the cam sleeves. @jpink was a huge help with a 2nd set of hands. I don't know what is unique about those damn lower ball joint bolts but my torque wrench just won't click at 59 ft lbs. Best I could get was 54. Called it close enough.

Hopefully the camber is close enough that it's ok to drive to get an alignment. It looks off but we lined everything up like it was marked.

Congrats. At this angle, looks like camber is excessively positive. But if the old LCA bushings were totally f'ed, your alignment could be wildly diff't right now.

Yeah it certainly looks off but hopefully fine to drive 5-7 miles to the shop. Jumping on a last minute flight to Seattle tomorrow and will take it when I get back.

Glad to hear you got it done @FirstGenVol. Any issue getting the lower shock bolt in on the arms?

Mine was a bitch on the passenger side with Moogs but I always seem to have trouble with that side.

It should be fine. You actually may want to put 10-20 miles on it just so stuff will settle out before getting aligned.

Funny that you ask because I told John how easy it was this time. I was expecting that bolt to be a pain like normal but all I did was swing the arm up into place and it lined right up. We did that before dropping the ball joint and spindle into place. The hardest part was moving the steering rack out enough.

I forgot to ask, does this look right? Is there supposed to be a washer here? It's the steering rack bolt closest to the driver's side.

As we tried to tighten that nut it was compressing the rubber rack bushing.

Yeah, that doesn’t look right. Mine has some sort of large washer or plate I believe.

I doubt you’d find the part broken out from the steering rack, but if you don’t you could probably get something equivalent special ordering it from a hardware store if you know the inner diameter, outer diameter and thickness.

Yeah mine is MIA and I don't think we lost it. I'm guessing when the shop did my rack bushing in 2019 they lost it. I'll have to buy one.

Found the one spot @FirstGenVol did not fluid film. About one square inch behind a bolt. Surprised he didn’t break the cans out then and there.

Missed seeing this and you may have your answer. Replaced all mine recently when getting new windshield. Below parts list was for an 04.

Nice! Toppers are so practical as they protect gear and any load from the elements, and they offer fair security. All of my trucks since the '70's have had a topper and a carpeted bed. The carpet protects the gear, helps keep it from sliding around and protect the knees. And, it's a much better platform for camping.

If you need to haul construction materials like concrete blocks, dirt and gravel, big lumber, motorcycles, manure, or heavy items like refrigerators, use a utility trailer. It's much better than beating up a good truck. Yes, I've hauled most all of that on the BedRug inside the topper and it cleans up. But I prefer topper storage to remain clean, every thing else goes in the trailer.
