If I drove the Tundra more than once a month in the dark I'd drop cash on some projectors.

Compared to the Altima it feels like I've got 2 flashlights stuck on the hood. Not good ones either those plastic Eveready shits you could buy for $2.

I referred to mine as coal miners lamps. They sucked. New lenses and the harness with 85/100w bulb upgrade woke them right up. Did the 9006 fog light mod as well. Lots of light now

Oh man! I had the exact same in blue. Just told my kids last week about how I used to keep my savings stashed inside. Think I had about $150 of cash rolled up in that thing when I was around 10. Thought I was RICH!

So after getting the skid plate off, took some time to inspect a little better. looks like these CV axles have been replaced (assuming that’s a date code). Some surface rust I need to attend to. CV boots leaking was a known issue (one threw a lot of grease, the other just one drop), but hard to see what the issue is - not cracked and the clamp isn’t loose. Anyway, here are some pics under the old gal’s skirt:

No, that pink tag with the part number is normal for original OEM CVs. I'd be willing to bet they are the originals and have never been replaced.

If you don't want to go through the trouble of re-booting and re-greasing them, you should be able to find a dealer local to you that sells re-manufactured CV axles for $80ish per side, plus a $75 core charge. If you turn in your old CVs when you buy the remans, you get your $75 core charge per side back.

The reman part number is 43430-0C010-84. They MSRP for $115, but participating Toyota Parts Program dealers will sell them for less.

More info on the remans here: https://www.tundras.com/threads/front-cv-axle-recommendations.110714/

There's some flashback nostalgia. We also had a yellow and black, I think Eveready brand that was way better.

Either way, that's the ADD tube and it shouldn't need replacing unless the 4WD is totally screwed up.

Changed the oil today, as well as trans drain and fill, and throttle body/MAF clean off. "Reset" the ECU. See if there's any difference in gas mileage.

Wanted to do the Griots garage plastic treatment but didn't really have time and it's supposed to rain so I'll put that off for another day.

Looking forward to seeing what your result is. I was near-end of a tank when I did it, went through a full tank learning the first bit, and on the 2nd full tank after I know everything re-learned, saw my mileage jump. I know my truck saw a veritable crapton of dusty roads daily, though.

Missed this quote in my last reply.
What aftermarket headlight housings are you running? No random light throw or anything like that? Like I mentioned recently my headlight harness upgrade and new bulbs were pretty mediocre.

It looked like good red fluid. Smell was a little off though. This was my 3rd drain and fill I've done but the first one in a little while. No immediate change in shifting performance. Hasn't been any change the last 2 times either.

In all honesty though I never calculate my MPG just check how many miles I get to a tank. My trip odos reset when I unhooked the battery so it'll be a while before I see anything out of it.

Probably going to "torch" my front bumper plastics then coat them after. I've done the torch method twice and it usually just fades right back so maybe this really good Griots plastic restorer will keep it looking better. If not I'm either replacing or painting them.

Generic OEM knockoffs. Actually reused my factory adjusters on the new housings due to the new ones being pitiful. Since I went 85/100w bulbs, I went with the relay harness upgrade to prevent melting my chintzy factory wiring. Light output improved dramatically. The fog light upgrade was money too.

Just wondering if you recall a specific brand.

I've done the exact same upgrade (I think with the exact same parts and all) and I'm not impressed I think my cleaned and clear coated headlights have more of a haze on them then it appears and that may be causing my issues.

I use Road Trip LE. It was free if you only use it for one vehicle. You input the mileage, gallons, total at every fill up, it calculates your MPG and gas price. Takes 20 seconds. It does the rest. Interestingly, the calculator helped me to realize I overpaid for gas almost a dollar because the pump wasn't pumping right. Filed a complaint, got a refund.

Any know if the plastic clips just pop off or can they get easily destroyed doing it?

Yeah, it was definitely a judgement call, and I had votes on both sides before I made the change. I still have the original, and it’s just six bolts to swap out, so I can always go back. I don’t think either looks bad, just a matter of preference.

Eventually I’ll have some lights installed on the front bumper, and the grille will likely be so obscured that it will render the issue moot.

Yeah, any paint shop should be able to paint match that for you pretty reasonably. I’ve considered running the TRD one out to my paint guy to color match it to the gloss black, but for now I’m sticking with the matte look.

Just make sure that crank position sensor wire gets tucked back away properly.

I want a matching chrome name badge that reads "Best Gen", to place above the Toyota Tundra badge. A decal would be okay, too, I suppose.
