I already replaced mine with a new one. That fixed a broken hinge and some scraped off paint on the original door.

now it’s fine but I’m annoyed by having to hand over my key when I get gas. So I ordered what I hope is a non locking door. So I can have that as an option if it fits, I’d just have to get it painted as well.

I'm enjoying my faux locking gas door. The magnets hold it closed and it still gives the appearance of being secure.

I thought it was NJ that had the "you're to dumb to pump your own gas so here's a minimum wage 18yo to pump it for you"? So OR is the same way?

Those are the only 2 states I know of where you're not allowed to pump your own gas (except on a motorcycle apparently, no idea why they won't do that for you, I'm guessing nozzle near a crotch is kinda too strange to deal with and volume is low so nobody cares?)

I love it when some kid tries to figure out where the cap is for the gas tank and it’s under the rear license plate.

Apparently, this is still a feature on the 1996 Impala SS.

Yeah it was you. Thanks for that. I've got it all assembled now. Just need to finish up putting a 4 wheeler together in my garage then truck will hopefully be in next week for oil change, trans drain and fill, and throttle body/MAF clean and I'll get that gas cap knocked out then too.

My gas cap seal looks terrible, but when I open it sometimes it lets out some pressure so it seems to be sealing well. It is original. Think it's one thing I'll run till failure. Though maybe I should get one OEM while they still make em.

Is it a door off a newer first gen? I feel like it's been determined it won't fit but I'd be happy to see someone confirm that.

Anyone have a solutions to a speratic idle? Every once and awhile it will just idle up for a few seconds then go back to normal idle..

Forgot to add, if your A/C is on, it will do this as the compressor kicks on and off.

Not just that. If you have the vent mode at anything which includes defrost it'll do it also.

So either of these two circled modes will cause AC to kick on periodically REGARDLESS whether you have the A/C button pressed in or not. I dealt with a sudden, short loss of power on the interstate a few times and after we were all bitching about it on here, someone mentioned it ... and sure enough I had my vent mode on floor/defrost.

When I’m sitting in idle, if I have the fan switch on, regardless of what the two switches to the right are set to, the idle will jump up a couple hundo RPMs for a minute, then drop back down for a minute, and repeat. Don’t recall the defroster setting ever changing anything.

Here’s a good one, who can figure this shit out? When I hit the wiper lever (not turn the wipers on, just pull back for the single squirt and 3 wipe), both my doors lock and then 2 seconds later, unlock. Sounds like a short somewhere but hasn’t bothered me enough to get at it. Anybody else experience anything like this?

When I lined my truck i swapped. Fits fine but you need the Pocket for the latching mech or magnets to hold closed

On my truck I disconnected the wire on the back of the selector for def/floor that turns on the A/C. Now the A/C will not automatically come on. I don’t need it all the time just when it’s cold and rainy. I can run def/floor with no engine idleing up/sluggishness. Plus better mpg. If I want the A/C I can just turn it on manually. I left the one connected for full defrost so if someone else is driving the truck and needs it to defrost it will turn on the A/C and clear the windows. Have done this to every car I’ve ever owned.

Any chance you have photos of yours? Is there an OEM pocket part? Any idea how it’s supposed to stay closed on non locking trucks? I hadn’t thought of this one.

might do an electromagnet and connect to my pop n lock feed. Then I’d just have to hit unlock to allow it to open. That would be slick.

I can grab a few tomorrow. The pocket just gets replaced with like year pocket that matches the door and has a little spring steel catch that grabs the door. A small stack of RE magnets has held mine shut just fine though until i maybe eventually go find a pocket somewhere.

Also, find a good gas station and make friends with attendant. In 8 years of Portland i only had maybe 1 person not let me pump my own fuel. And remember when you leave the Metro you can pump your own (cities of less than 10k or something like that).

Funny. Toyota's website says those won't fit the Tundra. Only the 4Runner and Tacoma. Am I missing something?

I believe the original wheels were hubcentric - meaning they use a different style lug nut. The TRD wheels use a lugcentric lug nut.

Power Steering question for the FGT Smarties. My high pressure line is leaking somewhere. Should I:
    1) Replace with a toyota part for $500+
    2) Replace with Surong brand from Rock Auto for $140
    3) Take the hose off, into a hydraulic shop & have them fix or build a new one for me?

Well I'm not sure why I put this fuel door off for so long. Took very little effort to just swap the hinge assembly. Guess I was just afraid of breaking something but I should have just went for it.
    20230128_161853.jpg
Old bolts were crusty. New m5 bolts in it that I had on hand. Thankfully they didn't break.
I lubed the hinge a little but it seems stiff enough to hold shut but I haven't driven it yet to see.

I'd go with option #3 if you know that's a possitiblity. I'd never do option #2, because you're liable to spend more than #1 after the ill-fit and poorly threaded parts mangle other stuff.

Uncovered the truck to put some miles on it and run a few errands - to find a dead battery...
Got my Costco Battery pack out and fired it right up. Ran a few less errands than planned.
