    @shifty` , I’m n of 1 and no expert on anything here but man o man am I impressed with the fox setup on my 2016. No rag rats at all. Not even a rag mouse. I was sold after the first 3 minutes of driving that it was the right call.

    Pricey AF though. I admit that. But vastly superior ride quality to the stock Bilstein.

    I’ll let you guys know how it works with the ‘02 Tundra and ‘05 Tacoma once those are done. The Tundra fronts have been on for a while but I couldn’t really drive it because it was so f’d in the rear. And the ‘05 Tacoma fronts are terrible for such a light truck so I’m very curious how revalued w lighter coils will feel once I get them on. But as far as the 2016 Tacoma goes, it was perfect the first time.

    HA! I actually thought about that as I was writing.

    The reality is, the pandemic had an impact I never imagined, converting me to mostly WFH, plus killing most travel. The gas hikes have done a lot to push me into the family hybrid. But as things continue to unfurl on the backside, I don't know what's coming up next. Now I've got everything in order, I can see myself out yak'ing a hell of a lot more often, which will mean a lot more driving.

    Yeah, and lucky you, you can basically drive yours right up to the Fox brick-and-mortar and have them rebuilt. Us guys on the east coast aren't so fortunate.

    You can definitely stretch out the service intervals on rebuildables like Kings if they're mainly street miles and you're not hucking it all the time.

    The spherical bearings might not last as long as the internal seals, but those don't take a lot to change out.

    The only reason I had my shocks overhauled recently (seals and everything) is because I needed King to remove some internal spacers. They didn't need a rebuild yet, but it made sense to do one since they had to take the shock apart anyways.

    Everything I know about you tells me the service interval will be at least 50k for you.

    Also, I’m 30 minutes from accutune but they are set up for package delivery/ shipping. I’ll probably have them own any rebuilds and adjust valuing at the same time depending on how noticeable the difference is. It seems the entire point of fox or king (I’m a fox over king guy) is for the rebuildable / tunable aspect. Without that capability the entire unit is effectively disposable if it wears or isn’t the right tool for the rig.

    Having physical access isn’t terribly significant.

    I would retain your existing parts though so you could at least swap and drive if you needed to. Though for the fronts that would have alignment concerns. But for the rears it’s a good idea.

    These fox rears with DSC are just really nice man.

    I live in Atlanta. Roads here, you may as well be hucking it all the time. I'm absolutely not joking about this, it's pretty absurd.

    It's not exactly insignificant either. :D

    Moving to 5100s and new UCA is phase 1 for me. Phase 2 planning is in the works. I needed a suspension refresh and altitude change now, and prep some things (UCA) for phase 2. $1k on pre-assembled 5100s, knowing I'm doing all the work myself and have virtually zero free time, and I'm about 1-2yrs/3k-5k miles from new tires needed, and knowing what's in my slush fund, this was the logical path for now. The same $$ wasn't going to get me what I ultimately want.

    Never thought I'd see a guy get beat up so much for upgrading his truck on here. :rofl:

    PS - you of all people should be aware, you have the luxury of driving multiple trucks, making it easier to farm out the work to others without missing a driving beat. I don't have that luxury.

    What about the plan to find a sweet older truck for a 3rd?

    Hopefully I’m not dishing out any beatings. Once w cheap stuff then again later on isn’t a terrible plan. It’s just more costly.

    My only ragrat suspension wise is the 2.0 fronts I put on the ‘05 Tacoma. That was a half measure which wound up worse than stock. And wasn’t cheap at all. And I’m still driving it that way. Definitely regret that move.

    And as to the physical proximity, it hasn’t bought me anything other than maybe reduced shipping time. But these days there is no real guarantee where parts will ship from. At least with accutune revaluing you know they ultimately ship from so cal. And East coast does mean longer shipping time / more downtime. So I hear you on that.

    Juice is worth the squeeze to me. Once every five years, schedule during a vacation, minimal inconvenience.

    I'd still love to get a pre-1998 (thus emissions-exempt) Taco or something. 4-banger ideal, with intent to convert NA => FI. Space is a factor, though. I'm still keeping a casual eye out, definitely want a smaller 2WD pickup, not an SUV. I'd love a J100, maybe a J80, but $$ is way the hell too high right now.

    I'm just ribbing back. :) And, yes, taking a phased approach typically isn't cheaper. But it's manageable when you're on a budget. I've got two AC units to replace in the next 6mos, a new roof in the next 6-12, a room and bathroom to build out in the stubbed basement (my shop space) in the next 3-6 months, and a few other things needing attention that'll add another $5-10k onto all of that. It's totally the wrong time to go "wild".

    I seriously doubt I'll have regrets about the incoming setup. If I do, it'll be that the 2884s were too little, and I should've gone 2885. After doing the math based on others, I don't think it will. I think it's going to give the stance I'm looking for, with no need for lifting rear to compensate, and fully clear 275 w/o rub. That's all I need for now. I definitely want more, as long as it's not adding maintenance, but I'm not targeting for "wants" atm...

    NA == naturally aspirated?
    FI == fuel injected?

    If I got those right, I’m a little confused as I thought NA and FI were not mutually exclusive? Educate me please? I realize those old ‘80’s trucks had carburetors

    Thanks. So Supercharger or Turbocharger? Any other options?

    I gotta admit, the ‘05 has zero balls. I was thinking EV since my bro in law works on them. I may try to acquire parts over time. But, batteries. That’s the problem. A crashed 3 is likely the way to go. Then some logic to unlock it. That’s my long term plan. In the meantime, the 4 works fine and is great for the kids to learn on.

    I assume it’s significantly easier / less costly to turbo an I4 vs replacing w 4.0 v6? Or dropping in a 4.7 v8?

    Dunno. Nothing definitive. It always costs boatloads more money to pick specific targets. I've found it's better to set a ballpark and see what pops up in that range for potential targets, do a little research, and pull the trigger if warranted.

    If there's one thing we have ample as parents, it's patience. Having children has tempered my patience like nothing else.

    If gas keeps climbing, Turbo 4cyl is the better option.

    But I'm also not opposed to trying to drop a GenIII or GenIV SBC into it.

    When I got my alignment done at the Lexus dealer, I was talking with the tech and he said they were totally cool with just labor jobs like this, I think he said 60$/hr which isn’t bad, especially if they’ve done it to other Toyotas and know what they’re doing.

    Took them to my buddies shop who specializes in Toyota. I bought the bearings and seals. It was about $100 per spindle.
