What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I connected my replacement Natika camera to the wiring under the ass end of the truck so I could check to make sure it worked before replacing the camera in the tailgate handle. Shit didn't work. The headunit interrupts the display when I put the truck into reverse but the screen image remains black. Not sure what has changed as I haven't made any changes to anything. Pressing the CAM button while on any display shows the same black screen. I traced the wiring from the rear toward the front under the driver seat where it goes into the cab but I didn't find any damage to the wire. Its all covered and protected with plastic wire loom.

 

I bought an assortment of rubber grommets to try and fix this horrible rattle I have. I think it has to be my skid plates. It's been annoying for a while but the last straw was my buddy riding in the truck and asking what the horrible noise was. I'll return the ones I don't use.

Check the transmission mount at rear of transmission. The bolts can become loose and even fall out. Makes a heck of a noise/rattle.

 

Can someone with bolt on sliders take/post a few pics of their driver side connection to frame points please?

 

I got it quiet. Now, since running it hard, I have some little noise but I don't think it's skids. Still working on finding that noise - the kind that only the driver hears. I cut urethane tie rod end bushings in half and used those in the end. I'll look for a link.

 

I like the urethane because they are hard "rubber." I used some isolation bushings at one point but they were way too soft. Like silicone bushings.

Have you gone around and checked for any loose heat shields? The heat shield for the right exhaust manifold gave me a lot of rattle issues until I found that to be the cause.

 

I did check those. That was a first thought if mine as well.

I owe the rocks an apology. I drove the truck without my skid plate and the noise is still there. I crawled under there with my rubber mallet and smacked everything I could think of(I've done the before). I was able to replicate the noise by smacking my spindle. It also makes the noise if I smack my uca, coilovers and calipers though not as loud.

I'm wondering if when I had these 14WA calipers milled, there is enough of a variance to make them make noise against the spindle. I checked every bolt from the calipers to the suspension and all were snug. I might just have to live with the rattle.

 

What uca/coils do you have? Check any heim/uniball joints for slop?

 

Icon coilovers with SPC upper control arms. I couldn't find any issues with either. I think I have only 15k miles on them at most.

 

Sounds like the camera is not turning on. Make sure the +12 to the cam is still there. If it's not, you could always run a new wire from either back up lights. Did you splice the wires, including video feed, or is this one male connector into a female connector. Did the seat properly, I know I have a system that you have to really push that last 1/4 in to seat properly.

 

Put a hand on different parts as you smack the spindle and see if you can narrow down what is making the noise.

15k is enough for a heim/uniball to go bad.


First thing I'd check is the dust shield/brake backing plate.

 

Finally got the Eibachs on, my new oem upper & lower ball joints are soo much happier For some reason my front passenger sits 1/2 inch higher than the driver side, hopefully it just needs to settle.
Not sure if it had anything to do with it but after running the Bilsteins on top perch (not recommended) for 25,000 plus miles neither one wanted to come off so had to bust out the sawzall and grinder.

Between grand kids and Grand pups visiting the Corolla got used steadily the last week plus...

Today was "lawn day" and I don't want the "hired help" anywhere near it ... It did throw its 1st code but My "reader' gave me a ... The last time I drove it I also filled it... Gas cap was a notch or two loose...Old technology Simple but efficient

Added more "toys" to the toolbox ...I Found some more of the Tacoma supplies in "hiding" and the Tundra now has extra towing gloves, a few more towing /rescue items and my cargo net....

After only being home on weekends for the past 3 months thanks to work and having plans when I am home, I finally had some time over the past couple weekends to get started on the pile of parts that have accumulated. I started on the front since for the most part everything is bolt on replacements. Next will be tackling the rear suspension and fixing the leaking rear passenger side axle seal (for the 3rd time...).
Testing the fitment of the GX460 calipers before tearing out the old spacer lift/level.

Old axle vs new. I know I should have gone with an oem but given aftermarket was $60 it made more sense to go aftermarket.

Drivers side torn down and old leaking axle removed.
New axle in.

New factory LCAs, LBJs, SPC UCAs, Radflo 2.5 remote res extended travel coilovers, ss brake lines and Suspension Maxx extended sway bar links all installed.


I still need to figure out placement of the reservoirs where the tires won't rub on them so if anyone has some pictures of resi's on their trucks that would be a big help. I forgot to take a height measurement from the ground to the fenders before I started pulling everything apart but it seems to sit about the same height as before. Still need to do an alignment so I may adjust height on the coils then to get a little more lift but when I jacked it up the other night after the truck settled I had about 5 1/2 inches of down travel.

Looking at possibly doing the ARK splash guards in the future. Also, just came across the thread about the T100 brake booster and master cylinder upgrade but I'll wait until I see how these perform with the OEM BB and MC.

 

Looking forward to getting this all buttoned up so I can get out and actually meet some of you socal/southwest tundra peeps. Also looking for someone who has a portable welding set up that would be able to weld on my new lower shock mounts when I get started on the pile of rear suspension parts.

 

That looks great. Can you mount the resis on top of the frame with an ABS wire re-route?

This is the t100 BB and MC swap. The calipers and rotors are from a gx460.

 

That might work. I'll have to check when I'm back home this weekend. With the hose having a 90⁰ at the resi it's making it a little bit more difficult.
