What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

I've noticed all the aftermarket door handles are fragile so Buyer BEWARE

 

No reason to sound the alarms or anything but I’d definitely take it back and ask for that cam to be flipped when you get a chance. It may be tight and track straight now but it’s just a matter of time. You can even see where it used to, and needs to be, in the pic.

Finally changed my carrier/ center support bearing. It's been sitting for a week or 2.
The bearing still spun freely but damn was the rubber cracked.
Had a shimmy in the steering wheel starting around 60 and got worse at higher speeds, accompanied with a "choppy" sound from front tires. Got the front tires rebalanced yesterday and it didn't make a difference.
I will say that after changing the bearing most of that shimmy is now gone. Still might check into tie-rod inspection and replacement. In near future.

I have one too. It’s nice. Good picture quality. Helps a lot.

I extended power and ground with 18 gauge and stiffed the whole thing into loom (1/2 inch) and wrapped with friction tape. Then installed it alongside my tailgate lock harness which used 2 conductor low voltage cable so I skipped the loom there. I could see possibly replacing it with a custom 6 wire harness down the road but independent works fine for now. Zip tie to frame rail, enter cab under the passenger seat, tap lock signals in then passenger kick panel, feed rca to the head unit for picture and leverage a switched socket power for camera (for now, later on I’ll do an 8 gauge battery tap and high current relay like I did in the Tacoma)

Prepping the harness ahead of time helped, then it was just snaking it. I routed through the spare tire hole to avoid cutting a new one. Works fine even when lowering the spare which I’m not going to be doing much of since I have a crossmember on order from archive. So bye bye spare under the bed soon.

I haven’t yet put in a 4 position connector for the camera so I could remove the tailgate. I don’t think I will ever want it removed anyway, working with Christian06 to get an anti theft bracket design for our FGT’s.

The system does have a quick disconnect but it’s not weatherproof and it’s pretty close to the camera so I left that tucked in tight inside the tailgate. So a swap to a replacement will be pretty easy if needed.

I might have a photo but not sure. Well worth the effort, as rear visibility down low with a shell and tailgate sucks. Happy to try to explain more or take photos. Routing it through the tailgate drain holes actually was a little tricky, I used a fish lead out of solid 16 gauge.

 

I still need to get the tailgate assist installed. And I think I’ll do rear support brackets for the bed even though it’s steel, with the added weight and stress of the shell I think I already have some gaps. I’ll see if the Tacoma ones fit and if not I’ll reach out to Dan to see if he can make some custom ones for us.

That's a ton of awesomeness! Really great. When you get that alignment cam flipped - maybe spec a bit more caster if after highway driving it feels like it want's to go into other lanes too easy. But, It may be right on for you, so just something to think about. I think I only needed over +3 when I maxed out my coilovers. You can also add new LBJ bolts if you like, or just mark the ones on there with a paint pen to be sure they don't start backing out. Might be a good idea to spray your undercarriage down now.

Well, it’s still something to deal with something no one else will ever do. But, I’m in the rabbit hole. I’ll update later. Yew!

Went in for a brake check. Pads still had a decent amount of meat on them, but my brake fluid was "pretty dark". So I got the brake fluid flushed.

 

Fortunately the hole I’m in has an opening and I see daylight. Currently consulting this pile of bolts, lol.

 

Are those all beach bolts? Poor things.

 

Just tan bolts. Like AZ bolts but with more transfer to your hands.

After some BAH work and a jack on the tailgate, the bed strut/tonneau support is done for now.

 

Drivers side inner boot was throwing some grease. Added a little bit more grease and re-seated the boot. Ended up reusing the original boot clamp but wasn’t getting a tight enough seal so threw the hose clamp around it. So far so good. No more throwing grease.

 

Thanks, the method you did is pretty much the route that I figured. The idea of the connector inside the tailgate, wise move, I'll be following your cable routing, thanks for the assist!!

I got my new headlights a couple of weeks ago, I'll do the camera at the same time. I just wish the new grill would show up soon.
The wife is going on her back to the family vacation, a month to work on the truck!
