Day 5: Truck driving nicely. Rain came to and end after 2 full days non-stop steady. Noticed the new drivers side blinker assy has some water inside. Filed the refund.

Quick assumption math on MPG’s looking like 13.5 in mostly city driving mixed with some highway.

13.5 is good compared to my normal mpg prior to new injectors. I’ll do the exact math tomorrow at fill up time.

All mpg talk aside, have you noticed any reclaimed power from what you lost after adding the 285’s?

Yep. Akkon from the big A online retailer. The seemed like nice quality and heavy duty compared to the other China ones that lasted 3 years. Stuff happens. I’ll just keep ordering new ones and return the fogged if they give me crap. This is the sad new reality. We’ll see how they handle the initial refund process.

Probs will order some new LED fogs lamp bulbs since the side markers will be out and its easy access to install fogs from the top through the hole versus arm yoga from underneath laying on the ground. Things happen for a reason?

Started considering not getting BFG KO2 tires.

A lot of people had short lifespan on the regular version, or reports of irregular wear potentially from the soft compound. On the KO2 DT version the rubber is harder and they lose the snowflake. Reviews are hard to come by but I have seen a few which noted bad rain performance.

Staying in the same price range I may just go back to a tire I know and get Yoko GO15. Maybe...

Have we found decent LED's for the fogs? I thought there were no good options for our 02's? I know the DC guys found some good ones.

Are you the guy with 2WD? Do you really need top of the line all terrain tires? I think you could get the same "look" without dropping $1000+.

Fair enough. I'm just saying there may be some middle of the road AT's that suit your needs. I'm pretty happy with my Hankook's that were almost 50% less than the K02's.

‘Feels’ like it since I have no other metric to measure ‘power’. Go back and review my last 4-5 days posts about these injectors.

Best I can describe these is that the gears seem to be in the right spot for the speed. There is no improvement going from 0-15 mph until you get to the end of first gear. I’m not burning rubber. First and second gears hold longer. The magic seems to be in the 2-3 gears range. If I’m cruising in those gears and want to gun the throttle the power is there where before it took some time. Same thing when at highway speed say, 65mph, and I want to pass and gun the throttle it downshifts fast down into 3rd and that power to pass is there right away. Before it would almost wind up when throttled and then the power would kick in and be there as long as needed. Now, its there on demand.

Its the same power plus 10%? and its there faster with no delay so it feels like more power on top of that. No computer print outs to present proof.

Mz PHM says there is more power for sure.

Odd how some injectors can change the gearing. The more I’m driving with these, the less I want new gears as that was the next upgrade on my list. I tried these injectors because I wanted clean injectors and the cost was low versus local cleaning. The upside was the potential for more power and a new feeling to an old truck. The downside was the only person that had them was Keith the seller so I had to trust him and possibly if I fail hard on the install having to fix it all back. Going into this, I had to trust many variables. Keith was right on these. Even you guys were doubting I think using me as a ‘guinea pig’.

Gearing was next on my list because of way higher cost $1100 for gears plus $1000? Labor? $2100 Minimum.

Not so sure now. I may pass on gearing now as the trucks dynamic has changed. I can only imagine these injectors PLUS new gears would be super amazing.

Glad I did these first before gearing. Well worth it. Not earth shattering, but definitely an upgrade thats worth it if you can pull it off. The MPG gain may be a side benefit to everything described above.

I’ll be doing just the fogs with Super Nova 4.0 Perfect 9006 plug n play (with no fans and relay wiring nonsense).

The common theme is LED sucks in a reflector housing and disperses light everywhere. My thinking: The fogs are low mounted and the reflectors assys are side to side reflector oriented by nature (very small front downward reflector) so no worries about blinding people. These put out twice the lumens. Was going to wait till a new version came out, but since things happen for a reason...

Bright White. I’ve considered yellow to change things up (other brands), but have settled on white. These are way more expensive than the other brands, but think this company reviews all the brands themselves and this is their recco.

    I’ll be the guinea pig!

Yes, this Spring I plan to get put of my 4 year hiatus and get back to having fun off road. I was pretty happy with the previous Yoko AT-S tires, they only ever failed me in deep mud during a storm which they didn't belong in.
    20190212_152400.jpg

I've considered going back to BFG after 12 years of not having them and just didn't like the abundance of seemingly bad lifespan reviews. You have a valid point and I considered Hankook and Nitto but at least with Yoko I know exactly what to expect. Besides I have the passenger version on my Element and they've been great in all conditions so far.

@Professional Hand Model have you changed your fuel filter? Or knowing you, have you changed it lately?

We had to drive to Jacksonville, FL from Amarillo. We spent 10 hours driving through TX, the other 10 through LA, MS, AL, and FL. Fun stuff.

Yep. Noticed some seeps around the oil pan gasket. Guessing due to the syn Blend to Full Synthetic conversion and oil getting around old seals. Looked like brand new oil where it is leaking. Was just watching videos I took today of where it may be, but the timing and alternator seem to get in the way of seeing things.

Anyways, noticing the leaks got me to reading how a Full Syn conversion can cause seepage due to its cleaning powers removing sludge. Also, this guy says the first switch over to Full Syn one should change the filter after about 1500 miles and put a new one on due to trapping more gunk.

I decided to go ahead and change the oil and filter (2600 miles). Oil looked real dark. No chunks. I’ll give the seeps/leaks till next oil change as they aren’t bad and heard sometimes they ‘fix’ themselves.

If not, I’ll go to high mileage oil.

Back to your point, its an easy job. Stand facing radiator and with right hand reach down and hopefully its hand tight. If its tighter, a large set of Channel locks will take care of business.

Make sure to have a tee shirt or medium towel underneath resting on the skid plate to catch any spillage due to the angle of removal.

I see you have the Toy large filters too, which I just put the first of 5 on during the last change. So far so good. As some guys were saying, put the new filter on hand tight till you shart and you are good to go.

I changed my fuel filter. It sucks. Has hard lines on both sides and neither want to give. Dumped gas all over me for about 30 minutes while I wrestled with it. I even purged the system.

I know some trucks have a quick connect fitting and others have nuts. Gonna look at mine soon and maybe change it when I'm low on gas. 200k+ miles it's way due.

Crap. You wrote fuel filter and I thought oil filter. My bad.

No thats one job I usually find a reason for the mechanic to do it. Next change is due when the coolant needs flushing. Like 5-10k miles. Probs have the shop do both.

Had an old Honda that had some flexible rubber hoses and small quick clamps. Took 15 seconds.

The Tundra looks like you need a push tool to release the one side and a nut on the other? Not much flexibility and lots could go wrong. Like bmf4069 says, doesn’t sound fun. Think the shop charged $40 labor?

Also, some mechanic previously changed mine over from factory filter to aftermarket so the connections are not factory anymore. Frame bracket is still factory.

He's asking about the fuel filter. Are you talking about the oil filter?

    Edit-nvm, you figured it out.

I also paid to have the fuel filter done. That was before I grew the balls to do it myself. Sounds like I made the right call.

How often are fuel filters supposed to be done?

haha sounds like you'll change your mind a couple more times before you pick up a set (not unlike me).

Personally I'm thinking that Duratracs will suit me well, especially considering where I live. Have you considered those? I'm a bit confused though, you seem to be looking a lot at winter performance, but do you really get much snow and ice where you're at? Ours feels like nearly half the year!
