So is this a buy or don’t buy? Helpful for hyperflashing? But doesn’t do much else for us?

 

Can confirm, '06 AC, no departure or arrival lights. I complained about it in another post. Dunno why it's not working. Had someone else confirm also.

I bought for two reasons: Convenience flashing ("smart tap") is a huge reason - gently tap up or down on the stalk and the blinker will flash to the number of flashes you program it. Default is 4 flashes I think. Other reason was for hyperflash prevention in the event I ever choose to go the LED route. I'll admit though, the ability to tweak your hazard light pattern and whatnot is cool too. Is it worth it? I thought it was when it was $60. Now it's $80, I don't see the value.

Oh ... and as for what I did to my truck today, apparently late last night I saw a good deal on one of the Advent/Gentex frameless mirrors on fleaBay and pulled the trigger. I'll admit. I drank too much beer last night, but I don't regret the purchase in hindsight. I wish the compass was hidden under-glass, but I'll be alright I think It'll be nice to FINALLY be able to upgrade my garage door opener I've had in a box for almost a year. Now I just need to build an adapter harness to tee off my overhead console light feed. Really wish there was a ACC power feed convnient to the roof for the compass. Alas, doesn't seem the AC trucks have one.

2. Lane change works (blinks 4 times without moving the stock completely)
3. Strobe effect for hazards.
4. Arrival/Departure lightning does not work on 02 Tundra.

If you can live without 2, 3 and 4 save yourself $70 and buy this one for $10 to take care of 1.

Alright lads, I am in a pickle.

I need lug nuts so I can bolt the Sprewells to the Tundra.
The spacers came in last night and I used one to mock up how much room I have for a lug nut and socket. With a 19mm lug nut, there is technically enough space for a socket...but not enough for me to be comfortable. I even tried my poly-coated no-mar socket. That ho wouldn't even fit.
So I've been looking for m12x1.5 closed-ended lug nuts with 17mm hexes all morning.
I've found four options.
1. Rays/Volk - 20 lug nuts (4 are security lugs) for ~$90. Need two sets which adds up to nearly $200 in lug nuts for the truck. GTFOH with that. Available for immediate shipping
2. Quadboss RZR lugs - Four lug nuts for $10 makes $60 (plus shipping and tax) for 24 lug nuts. Should be here between xmas and New Years.
3. Unbranded Chinese lug nuts from eBay - 20 lug nuts for $32.xx makes ~$70 for a complete set....and they won't arrive until sometime in January. Pssht. January
4. Open ended lugs from Bimmerworld or FCP Euro - ~$1.75-2.50 per lug makes $42-60 for a set...plus shipping and tax. Available for immediate shipping

The only other option is spline-drive lug nuts. I can probably have them delivered to work today from Pep or any number of other parts houses we use. Probably in the $30-60 range. But I really hate spline drive lugs. I hate how the lugs and their sockets wear out.

What does the group have to say? Not sure which bullet to bite.

 

I've had spline drives for a while now. They're not giving my trouble but I don't hit them with an impact. Only thing I don't like about mine is the lame key to use on them. It isn't a socket but an adapter meade to fit inside a 19mm socket. Very fumble-prone.

 

Cant grind the outside of the socket down? Maybe wrap it in e tape?

 

My best friend hung himself last new years day and he had a 2001 tundra because he copied me. Anyways I was going to buy it from his family or take over payments. But it was repo'd in Oregon and auctioned before I could aquire it. I had planned to fix it for my dad and I to share as a spare truck. Now dad wanted another first gen taco like he had years ago. But those are crazy expensive right now. I always wanted to supercharge a 5vz 5spd, so I didn't care which truck it came in. But after having the T100 for a few months I realized how hard it is to find certain parts and even smaller aftermarket than 1st gen Tundras. Plus my dad didn't like the manual. So I had been kicking around the idea of selling the T100 for a week or two when I stumbled on the T3 for sale

This is right in line with my experience.

I have a ground down 19mm socket, but when I offered it up, I was not excited about the still tight tolerances.

 

I've seen the real socket for them before. It just never crosses my mind until I'm chasing the stupid adapter that rolled under my truck.

You may have no choice but to go where no first gen has gone before. You may need to run adapters and trade those spreewells for spindle mounted wheels. I have a mallet you can have to work the knocks.

 

Run spline drives on the son's car due to tight lug hole clearance. Haven't had any issues other than the afforementioned socket in a socket clumsiness. Maybe buy a socket and permanently affix it to the spline drive key. Fumble-be-gone.

 

I have splines too. No complaints really. Worst thing that has happened is the key getting stuck inside the socket but I got it out after a few love taps.

 

Lame change function is super nice. Plus the strobing

 

How's this for ideas? I took it awhile back on my old potato flip phone.

Well the gels were a bust. They don't fit on the LEDs. So I'm sticking with white. F it. I did notice that there was creak from the plastic on the screw mounts from the white cover shown in the pictures below, so I put some grease on that to maybe help. This whole dang piece creaks so I may pull it off and grease the plastic tabs too while I'm add it. Got an email that my retrofits are FINALLY done, so I'm of this afternoon to pick them up. Will post pictures.

Took my Tundra to a friends building lot and cut a load of firewood for my son for Christmas. Hard to get something for someone that has everything. I hope he likes it.
