I scored this set for 50$! Barely fit in with all the gear when I met up with guy on the way home. These will go on a trailer build so all my spares can swap to either or

6 lug trailer? Not many people actually utilize the availability of the 6 on 5.5 lug pattern to match their tow vehicle. The first off-road oriented prototype we did for my boss had TRD wheels on it that matched his Tacoma. Man that was a cool trailer.
What are the plans for the trailer? I need the motivation to finish one of my two trailers.

Yeah might as well, might try to put 285/70s on it to really match everything.
    I got a small 7’x3’ utility trailer for free.99
It needs some work, but that’s fine because I’ll be modifying it anyways.
First thing I’ll be doing is throwing some Ts on that bitch! Some Timbrens! Maybe you can help me there, I know I at least want to do the 1tonHD units, not sure I really need the 3500# setup? I will probably do the ebrake hub.
My plan is to get a water tank underneath or maybe in the storage area, not sure about a RTT, but I do plan to build out/up over the wheel wells for storage and maybe a platform on top.
Mainly a place to have and store all the camping gear, make it easier to hook up and hit the road. Loading gear in a truck bed with a camper SUCKS!!! I’m also trying to think of a way to make our tailgate a swing out of sorts, if that makes sense. I quit fucking around and just remove the tailgate when it’s loading time….

Sounds similar to a prototype I worked on that never come to be. It ended up looking similar to a service style truck bed. The idea was to use the nesting square tubes that you can get from McMaster and have the sleeping platform move up and down.
As for the timbrens... I don't recall if the 2,000lb setup or if the regular 3,500lb setup has a six lug option, but the hd setup like we use only came in six lug if I recall. The spindle the hd uses is really more of a 5,000lb style. It's very beefy and the brakes are Like what you'd find on an axle heavier than 3500lb.

Do you need the hd? Depends on the target weight of your trailer I guess. I can say that the 3500 hd works very well on our trailers that range from. 2200lbs to 3000lbs loaded. If I were making a trailer that was under 2000lbs loaded I'd feel just fine with regular 3500 hubs and spindles. The brakes shouldn't matter much honestly. 3500lb brakes should lock up the tires just fine.

See the attached pic of a cool trailer I saw for sale some time ago. Seems pretty well executed.

Thanks, yeah I had a similar idea with the raise bars for an awning and annex as well.
That’s what I really need to sit down and calculate; is actual loaded weight. Maybe buy once, cry once.
I think both the regular versions come with the 6 lug option. The 1ton hd version I think is actually rated at 2200 or something.

when we were at camp I was randomly BSing with this guy and they had a trailer, can’t remember the name, but getting it fixed up in your area after the event. But I started telling him about my diesel heater and he got all excited and called his wife over because they had some “issues” with it. User/controller issues, I kinda explained how they worked and hopefully showed her how to make the proper adjustments in the right mode. People try to run them in automatic mode but the controllers are garbage at reading space temperature, so it’s best to just run them in manual/hertz mode and turn them on low and just let them run. I definitely learned some tricks for next trip!

My rear driver side ashtray is broken and rattles when I drive. Is there anything I can do with it other than just JB welding it shut? Can’t think of anything else to use it for, but it is on my list of annoyances. The hinge abs broke a while back and the top is just sitting on it. I’m overthinking this…

    Play-doh or similar?

I'd probably just go to the JY and get a replacement. Or go to fleabay for it.

There's a guy on GXOR making cupholders with a base that fits into those inserts for the GX470. Might be an option to come up with something similar for the Tundra...

So... Lights are in. It's raining so we'll see if they sealed tomorrow. I need to level them just a smidge. I didn't epoxy the lock rings so they turned just a bit when I tightened the bulb holders. No idea on the light because it's wet and my less blue bulbs aren't in yet. They aren't nearly as blue as the picture suggests, but they are on the blue side of white.

@KarmaKannon Is there some reason you have the front tires offset more than the rears? Is it just a visual thing or is there more to it than that?

Finished up front 5100 and OEM lower ball joint install last night. Need to get a pic of finished product. Life gets in the way and it's still sitting on jack stands with no wheels at the moment. Ended up going with 3rd notch. Rented the spring compressor from o'Reillys PN 67051 and it worked alright but it hardly fit between the coils to put in and especially difficult to get out when installed on the 5100s. Had to rotate the spring compressor "arms" around to the spot with the biggest gap to remove. Not a big fan of how the rods bent with the coil compressed but it all worked out.20211022_183933.jpg

Dude, you're living the life! I lived in Prescott and worked as a medic out of Williams, Flag, and the Canyon for 10 years. Kinda regret leaving, but it was right at the time. I miss it out there so much!

Some of it is the angle of the picture. The back is 2" narrower though. It's not very noticeable in real life.
Rear axle just has 1.5" spacers to fit the raptor shocks between the tire and leaf spring. It's still super tight and I need to get some 2" spacers instead. The front is 3.5" wider per side to match the camburg extended axle shafts.

Finally got some new tires, went with the Falken Wildpeaks, so far I'm happy with them. I also went slightly larger in size, went to 265/75/16 instead of the 265/70/16, the fit seems fine.

My tire pressure light started flashing the day after I got them installed...any idea what might be going on? I've checked the pressures regularly and they seem fine.

I hit the service roads here in NW Montana to put the new all-terrains to the test! plenty of mud and even some snow to be found up high. Of course, I also had to do a little fishing while I was out and about.

Nice tire choice and sounds like you get into some great backcountry adventures. Regarding the TPMS, doesn’t it blink when the tire pressure is borderline or a battery‘s dying? If it stays illuminated then I think the sensor is either dead or the pressure is low. I would try resetting the TPMS with the new tire pressures first. If that doesn’t work, may need to program with techstream if any of the sensors are new. I’m sure someone else with more knowledge will chime in before long.

@tacoguybill hello, I saw your truck and I was just wondering was brand/kind of brush guard did you put on it? I was also wondering how well that has held up for you? have you hit anything or damaged it in any way that would be helpful to know? also what brand/kind of topper did you put on your tundra? I am only asking these questions because I have found it very difficult to find aftermarket parts that fit a first-gen tundra.

Still chasing this vibration issue. To recap: I get a small virbation between 30 and 40km/h. Nothing until 60km/h when it becomes progressively worse until 70km/h. At 80km/h, it disappears.

Before I really tear into stuff, I'm having a different tire shop balance and inspect my tires today. Figure I'll do the cheap stuff first. If that doesn't fix it, I'll be bringing it to my mechanic tomorrow to have a chat with him. I have 6 degree axle shims we can try.

Oh, and on top of all this my front brakes are getting hot. I put new rotors and pads on a couple weeks ago. Now after driving they're hot to the touch and I can smell them. I know that's normal for the first while after new brakes but I've got probably 400kms or more on them by now.

It just doesn't end. I've been very seriously considering selling the truck. I'm tired of spending the majority of my days off fighting with this shit.

Just dropped my truck off at my local upholstery shop. Getting the driver side seat fixed. The back is broken through and down to the metal on the inner torso bolster as well as the outside thigh bolster due to all the in/out. Bought the truck like thing but it proved to be difficult to find a replacement seat, and much less one in better condition.

I've got it stuck in my brain the universal is solid TPMS light means a tire is low, flashing TPMS means communication malfunction, which can be any number of things, dead battery in sensor, sensor compromised, sensor missing, wheel with sensor missing and so on.

Saw someone on here the other day showing off their truck, came with cloth interior, MFer somehow found a leather interior in the correct color, all power, and in better shape than my ~70k mile truck. And I think they paid some silly-low amount of money.

Junkyards around me, you're lucky if a vehicle makes it out on the yard with its seats still. It's insane. My driver seat bolster closest to the door is blown, as is the corresponding hump on the bottom half. Still waiting for The Seat Shop to get their OEM leather replacements in... They said by EOY...

Yeah and then IF the seats make it out they are on the bottom of the pile inside under exhaust parts and crap. They just ruin them! So frustrating. I’m paying about $160 for the rebuild. I still think I will eventually do katzkins with heaters.

I didn't take any pics yet, but I replaced my brake lines with steel lines and started doing some winter prep. Washed the truck and did 2 coats of ceramic wax and started cleaning up the underside and gonna start spraying fluid film soon.

So you haven't installed the shims yet? If you're certain the proper angles are off by that much (6°) then I would get them installed before anything else. If, by chance, they don't resolve the issue and you're certain they are off by that much and the shims have corrected the angles I would look into having the driveshaft balanced. It can be surprising how much vibe can be produced by a couple of misplaced ounces of weight on the drive line but is often overlooked. This is what I would do.

Or, you can sell it. Probably won't have any shortage of potential buyers.

Good call. I need to paint some stuff and put some wax on the beast as soon as I get a free weekend.

Shims haven't been installed yet. I just got back from being out of town for work. Talked to my mechanic and he can't get the truck in until end of this week. It's less than $100 for me to have the tires balanced, it's a quick and painless step to ensure we're starting with a clean slate so to speak. When I bring the truck to my guy on Thursday or Friday, he's going to confirm my measurements of the driveshaft angles and we'll get the shims in if needed. I had the driveshaft balanced about a month ago, so that shouldn't be the problem.

I have done that braking adustment already. I'm thinking my issue is something related to the new pads and rotors I installed. I doubt I fucked something up, but I'm not sure...
