Apologies if this is a dumb question… does the door check help prevent that clunky feel when opening/closing on older vehicles?

I don't think it's a dumb question but I'm not really sure honestly. Mine didn't feel clunky prior to replacing. I think the door check is mainly there to keep the door from opening or closing too fast. Maybe yours is really worn out and making noise. You could also try lubing the hinge and making sure it's not full of dirt.

Rolling backwards and pulling the parking brake causes them to adjust typically

A bad door check will clunk each time it hits one of the stops

What do you mean pulling? You mean pushing the pedal down?

I replaced my door check because my door wasn't staying propped open on level surfaces.

I'm not buying that a 2001 has the pull handle. Maybe a T100. Maybe some very first run 2000's would be plausible. Maybe a non-US market Tundra?

I mentioned in my last post that trick hasn't worked for me. I've had to manually turn the star adjuster.

Do this as a conversion on a foot brake truck and use the foot pedal for high beams

I liked the pull handle on my 91 4Runner but it was an automatic. So what transfer case do they stick in the manual Tundra's? Is it from a 4Runner or Taco?

I believe there's an upgraded starwheel available for these? has more teeth, or less teeth or something. Part of a TSB, for non-adjusting brakes.

Funny ya'll started mentioning those door checks, I grabbed one from Amazon a couple weeks ago, haven't gotten around to installing it yet. Wife keeps complaining that the door won't stay open when trying to get the kid out of the car seat. Mini vacation to florida was pretty awesome rolled 150k on the way down. Changed my oil last night. Need to get around to that door check and probably put new rotors on the to do list started noticing a slight shudder while braking. I keep hearing back and forth about transmission flush/fill. Looking through old service records it seems that it was performed once at 30k miles but hasn't been done in (now) 120K, should I expect some issues or send it and cross my fingers? Starting to notice an occasional thump when sitting at a light. If I do it now I definitely intend to keep up with it every 30k miles from here on out. Mostly a pavement princess or well maintained dirt roads to get to the hunting spots but whenever I get a chance I'd like to get some more exploring done.
