    I retired young.
    Have lots of hobbies...
I travel, camp, rockhunt which usually means hiking. Right now my main thing is my dog. More hobbies are lampworking...its kinda like blowing glass, woodworking, metalwork, make jewelry, sculpt clay and silver clay, paint and work with paper, make miniatures, kinda like to cook too. Its endles, I dont have enough time in a day! Kinda artsy so it's always something new! Also have 4 grandkids from 16 down to 7, so they keep me busy!

I am in this exact same position. I could stay and add 2.5% more each year.

Lots of considerations: lifestyle, financial, family, etc.

Due to circumstances [a successful, family business], I am losing money, if I don't retire because I can double-dip, and the home business income I can generate by going full-time is better than my current job. Plus, I don't have that many more money-making years left. [I mean, I don't want to die working.]

All that to say this: life circumstances, in time, have a tendency to dictate what we choose to do, as you no doubt are fully aware.

P.S. Everybody has to do their own thing [what works for them]: personally, I think the boat idea is cool shit. Makes me think of the huge cluster of tiny islands in southern Alaska. Go for it!:bananadance:

I retired after 27 years February 2018, bought this truck and remodeled my kids bedrooms. I've always had an interest in writing....God knows we in LE did enough of that. I'd written a book a year before retirement and this last year, I published it through Amazon and wrote three more books. My days are spent supporting my wife's career, shuttling kids to Ice Hockey practices and dealing with my writing career. The marketing is a pain. The writing is the easy part. I recently had the first book narrated for Audible Books and am a couple months away from publishing the second book which is book two of a series. I got my PI license and thought about going into business doing backgrounds and executive protection type work but realized I was so over the profession. The job changed so much with all the California laws that embrace the criminal that I decided to write instead. I have no idea how I ever had the time to have a full time job :) I'vev been trying to figure out how to write a Tundra into one of my stories, but this series is EMP post Apocalypse with no cars working so I have to invent a character who can get a rig running, bypassing all the sensitive electronics.

I also take trips whenever I want. All we as a family have to adapt to is my wive's trial schedule (she works from home as an attorney) and the kids school schedule. WIfe will ask if I am clear to take a trip on a certain date and I always just laugh. My calendar is wide open now.

Great thing about retirement is you can do whatever you want. The only thing I'd caution against going pro doing is drinking. I've seen a couple guys retire and drink themselves to death, literally.

    https://www.amazon.com/World-Slowed...VRGBB1Z/ref=mt_kindle?_encoding=UTF8&me=&qid=

    RETIREMENT.....I highly recommend it!!!!

39D1B902-2E4B-4A98-8FFC-157F1B3956A1.jpg A boat doesn’t have to break the bank. After looking carefully for about a year, I got this (starter boat) for 5K. It’s 25 years old but everything works. After a couple years, depending on how much I’m actually going out, I might upgrade to a 20’-22’, with a hard cabin.

When I retire, I wanna build a barn/ shop like @gosolo, but with a carriage house on top, up on my sisters place in Idaho. Rent out the house on California (in case I ever want to come back; it’s a single story with a pool and decent yard for gardening- be a good grandparents’ house. For all the bitching, CA still a lot going for it, especially if we ever need good medicine). I’m saving for a big round-the-world trip as a demarcation between work and whatever comes next. Family and friends all across England, plus Idaho and Arkansas, so those are likely bases for whatever we do next— or may go wherever the kid goes after college.

Yep, I get that. I’ve got so many things to do and hobbies to pursue, it’s pretty busy. Nice to have no schedule or pressure. Here’s a picture of the group of us around my forge..

Went back to work but I retired at 42

I sold my partnership and got bored. Worked part time for a friend and he didnt need me any more and was just paying me for reading the news paper.

Found a job as I.T director

If you can get 80% at age 50, you are very fortunate!! I just became eligible at that age and current compensation if I left now is roughly 44% and I’ve been at my career for 28 years! I can barely live on full salary now, let alone half! But I hope in five years to have lots of side bills paid and move to a lower cost of living state so I can afford to leave early.

I also purchased service credit years, so that helped (9 to be exact). It wasn’t cheap at my pay rate, but at this point in my life, I don’t care. lol

Once retired I can be a full time mod on Tundras and make the big bucks.

About 3 years out from being able to. I just don't think I can keep myself busy without spending more money. Plus house isn't paid off. Not to mention the stock market isn't going to keep going up.

I also purchased time, the most we could that I got is 5 years but would only see the benefits the older I get. I dunno how much longer I can listen to attorneys all dang day, it’s been past old already!

We’re kinda 24/7 on here, we should be in the bucks by now!

Honorably discharged veterans can also buy their military time in our program. Very fortunate to say the least and yet another benefit from being allowed the privilege to serve this great nation.

I retired after 25 years 2 in patrol, 8 in K-9, 2 more in Patrol, (10 of those years in SWAT) and the last 13 years undercover narcotics.

I started my own business and represent a software company for Police and Intelligence agencies and train Military and Law Enforcement analysts.

Although I said I retired I work more now than I did before. I'm on the road 30-40 weeks a year.

I'm a firm believer that you have to do something. Everyone I know who retired and said "I'm going to fish and play golf" has either died or has come back in to the work place, either paid or volunteer.
