I'm at 17-22 which is fine by me, not bad at all for a V8 on 33" Mickey Thompsons.

I get 15mpg with my stock as a rock 4.6 V8 Tundra, 4wd, double cab. My old daily driver, 1992 Lexus SC300 did 16-18 mpg on premium fuel, I calculated the cost, the Tundra is about a wash, maybe slightly cheaper on fuel considering the huge cost differential between 87 and 93 octane. I might have got away with running 87 in the Lexus, but it was a 5 speed model, so I really did enjoy ringing that thing out/driving it hard, so 93 octane was a must, 87 might have been okay if I drove it like grandma.

If i drive the 15 miles to my work going 55mph I get about 17-18mpg. If I go 65 home I get 15-16mpg. But if I drive 22 miles to my old job going 50-65 mph I get 17-20mpg.
What I'm saying is, I wouldn't base your tacos mpg on such short distances.

For the first few years I didn't care at all about fuel efficiency. Then I got a longer work commute and it became an obsession, it was partly a game I played during my 25 mile one-way drive. The progress included a scangauge, 4.56 gears (wasn't with the intent of mpg in mind) and seriously analyzing my driving style vs mileage benefits. What I learned was not what you would expect, but it lead me to never seeing less than 19 mpg per tank. Depending on length of trips I can hit up in the 23s, going to Vegas for example.

That said, a lot of good info was dropped here. I've heard mixed reviews on electric fans, never went for it because an extra couple HP isn't worth reliability to me. Flex a lite makes a dual fan kit, if I remember correctly the only weak part is the temp probe they use. If I went that route I would incorporate an in line temp probe instead. Or you can build your own if fabrication is your thing.

Overall it's pretty hard to gain more significant power with your motor.

If I were to ever have one it would have the in-line temp probe as well as the switch to turn it on whenever I want it as well.

Are there any gains to be made from a cooler Tstat? I live in SE TX where it gets into the 100s in summer and rarely gets cold. My truck runs about 184°F as it is which seems decent. My taco used to run about 197-204°F

I wonder if a cooler Tstat along with some long tube headers, dirtydeeds exhaust and injectors and URD MAF calibrater would make a decent power output boost

I would think above freezing temps. To be honest, I don’t know where the cut off line would be or what it would totally affect. They run the coolant through the throttle body to keep it from freezing. I don’t know why that was ever an issue LOL. Plenty of my vehicles did not have this! But Toyota does it for a reason. If you’re above freezing it should keep the throttle body from being blazing hot after a drive. Probably would want to reconnect if you’re going to be going through cold climates. But I have no proof LOL

So a buddy of mine who works on Toyotas told me to look into using a 5.7 throttle body on my 4.7 when I do the injectors. Anybody ever heard of doing this before?
