For an off road rig, there are a lot of advantages to shortening it up and if that's what your truck is primarily used for then I'd say go for it.

    BUT...

This is a major project and not one to half ass and figure out along the way. You better know what you're doing before you start cutting it up. Done right, this can be a nice mod. Done wrong and you'll turn your truck into an unsafe POS.

I would shorten it. Bobbing the bed would help, but the 145" WB does hurt you off road unless one is on some big tires.

I say go all in. Get a standard cab to go with that short box. That would be a head turner.

Another approach would be to just bob the bed rear of the wheel well. You can section out ~8" or so and gain rear clearance. Would not be as dramatic a mod, but would look similar in the end. Plus, if you put a short bed on, you cannot be certain that the profile of the bed will match up with the profile of the cab until you mate them up. Might end up with some funky gaps. Then you are left having to section your old bed to match up or live with it.

Understood. There are some wheeling advantages to a bobbed bed as well. If i were to back half the frame, it would also include a pretty trick 4 link to boot.
