Victory Roof Rack Safety Warning (please read if you have an over-cab rack)

That sucks, @Victory4x4 should assume they ruined the airbags on the truck in the video also after watching. I literally just removed their diff skid due to it causing damage, and recently got to watch another try to remove itself and blow up stuff, lol. Got my replacement for my under hood ARB twin mount last week, it broke and did some damage as well. IDK

 

I just had to watch the video also. He said “this is a safe zone to drill”. His drill bit did go in almost all the way in also...... this is going to be interesting. I hope that every one who bought one of their racks checks the air bags. This is scary to think about.

I hope Victory addresses this better than they did with their LCA skids. They knew their LCA skids were ruining wheels and kept quiet. Cost me $600 to replace my two damaged wheels. And happened to quite a few others after me. This time it’s not going to be a couple of damaged wheels, but it’s going to be someone’s life.

 

Can you please elaborate about the LCA skids? I have them and so does @sr5shark

Also am I the only one who is going nuts watching him rest all his steel tools on the paint? Also not protecting the paint from the wrench, Mesure tape, and RTV? Jesus, all it would have taken is a few strips of painters tape along the roof and a towel. No care taken whatsoever. Staying away from @Victory4x4 products until I can see some care taken in their instruction and product design. If the manufacturer cant get it right with the drill how can they expect their customers to?

 

He had the same issue I had with the drill bit grabbing and pulling it all the way in.

It’s clear that @Victory4x4 and @brimy311 are aware of this thread but so disappointing that they choose to stay quiet. They don’t care much about our safety just as long as they get their paychecks. Tells you about the people and the company.

 

Wow! That rotated a lot. Was there any damage to the drive shaft?

 

The ones you have don’t have the issue.


The first rev of the LCA skids that were released had metal out to the corners (see the circled area in the pict below). They were tested on wheels that were 0 offset and there was no issue with these. On wheels with a higher offset (like +25 or the stock +60) the corner could come into contact with the wheel at full lock and shave off part of the wheel. (This made balancing near impossible.) V4x4 fixed the issue by cutting off the corner.

No, just ruined the rear diff drain plug. Not sure why I bought a rear diff skid.

Sunni! I guess its not as cut and dry as it seems.
For two years I’ve been air commuting to SJ for work and Liz was down in SoCal for work. When the baby was born and Liz stopped working we both moved into our trailer to be together here is SJ.
My parents and sister still love in SoCal and we’ve been down there once a month and our stuff is in storage down there as well, as when this job is over we may come back. It’s just that the job could be a few more years. I should have said we temporarily relocated for an unknown amount of time. We still love you and plan on seeing you at the San G rally and other SoCal runs! I guess in my mind it didn’t seem like that big of a deal since I was up here like 90 percent of the time anyway.

 

What do you mean by if they will take action? Like they are seeing if it’ll be fixed under warranty? Seems like they’d just fix it but make you pay for it. Weird that they have to notify the regional office.

 

I’ve never bought anything from them and it sounds like I shouldn’t bother. With this issue, some having issues with the LCA and diff skid plates, and this guy who got a bumper where the sensor holes were cut wrong. Victory 4x4 just told him too bad, deal with it yourself.

They will not fix it under warranty. All of the inspection and repair costs are all on me. I spoke to the Service Manager first and gave him the details of this thread that many others could me affected. He explained that he reports both to the dealership and Toyota Corp when there are safety issues involved.

I interpreted that he doesn’t know what Toyota will do with this specific report and incident; if it will even raise interest or just be another statistical report that they often submit.

I’m really not expecting for Toyota to do anything. They did the inspection and hopefully repair the truck soon. I just want them to fully document the problem then look at my options on how to handle the situation. I was hoping @Victory4x4 and @brimy311 would step up and address this but apparently not by choosing to remain silent on this.

 

Have you tried calling them and talking to them? Also just a thought. Do you think maybe your insurance would pay for the air bags? Since it was an accident. Im thinking those air bags are going to be expensive.

I very seriously doubt anyone is going to pay for this. It’s an aftermarket mod done by someone in their backyard, not a professional shop. Blame rests on the shoulder of the installer, not the manufacturer or insurance.

Just a thought. Accidents happen to any one not just professionals. Some agents are more lenient then others, it’s worth a shot IMHO.

 

I agree that my insurance company won’t lay a finger on this but I have a pretty good relationship with my agent so there’s nothing wrong with asking.

@Hurricane i checked your posts to see what mods you’ve done. I can’t seem to find any. No insult intended but I am trying to see a mod that you have and make it an example so you can relate to how install instructions are crucial to how this works. Let me know so maybe I can relate it to your world.

 

You see none because I haven’t done any to this truck yet. I’ve done plenty of stuff to other vehicles I’ve owned in the past, but haven’t touched too much on this truck yet. Life has kinda got in the way since I bought it about a year ago.

 

Regarding the amateur argument:

I could be wrong, but the guy in the video who buried his drill bears a striking resemblance to the guy who founded the company according to online assets.

“If” the guy who invented and manufactured the product is not an “expert” or “professional”, I’m not sure who would qualify. If its a different guy, he has still been presented by the manufacturer as the expert installer.

I also disagree that damage resulting from following step-by-step detailed instructions, using supplied tools, places the problem completely on the customer. If that were the case, there would be no need for the manufacturer to change anything going forward.

I think we can see thats not a realistic scenario. The FIRST guy to check his install as a result of this thread has damage. The procedure, or the tool, or both need to change.

 

Going to pile on a bit here with a minor thing that speaks to their products not being very well thought out. I got a set of Victory Rear Shock Skids earlier this year and noted that there were no drain holes in the bottom. Called them up and their rep couldn't explain why there weren't any and agreed it would be a good idea to punch holes in them so the eye of the shock wouldn't be sitting in a pool of water/mud etc. Mine now have holes like they should. Well, like I think they should.

 

Plenty of time to troll though... just not do any mods. I think you’ve made your position clear, so why don’t you kick rocks over to some other thread where you can actually contribute something, like “the number picture thread”, or “what are you grilling today”.
