How did he recommend wiring the amp to the factory harness? Will this work?

He recommends just cutting the harness or tapping into the wires you need to use.
You could strip and solder and shrink wrap them. Or maybe even use posi taps if you want wanna cut it.
Idk if that harness in pic will fit. I think it's different JBL vs non jbl

^ My thoughts exactly. Mine arrived today. Woo hoo.

It’s a big box. This is going to take some time. Going to be so much better though.

    Working on it :-)
So what is everyone doing with the side dash speakers on a JBL system. Are you using the capacitors that come with them? I have heard both use them and don't use them. I have done the center and read doors so far and some sound deadening.

    TIA, Mike

It's really not hard at all! First install I've done in my life, and it was easy because of all the pictures and directions I found on these threads. Seriously, someone made a comment about using leather cleaner to get the power wire through the grommet and it worked like a charm!

First install of my life, and I did the complete package. Amp, doors, dash, DSR1, and sub.

I’m also getting a pop from the dash speakers so I’ll probably remove th capacitor and see how it goes.

How is everyone getting the dash side speaker bolts installed? It seems like the holes in the new speaker are too far apart and do not line up with both bolts. I only got one in on each side.

I only put in 1 also. The grill was hitting the 3.5 replacements so I had to redo and pull speaker in more.

    Stock wiring for 3.5 side

Red + red to speaker red
Black + black to speaker black

Harness wires with solid line is black, no line is red

    Stock wiring for center 3.5.

I forgot what colors but both middle went to one side and outside wires went to other side. If you want to post pic of oem center, i will remember.
I used the capacitor wires that came from center speakers for the outside. I was getting bass out of them and was no bueno. I also went back to put the oem center back in to add midrange in the front. Plenty of highs with door and dash side infinity 3.5

I think my definition of "not hard" is different from your's. Well, it wasn't all that difficult, but my install took me about 16 hours over the course of a week and probably 30 emails to James! Granted, I did everything you did + sound deadening, but still. Sound deadening probably added about 8 hours.

My only issue now to figure out is if the small amount of white noise I hear is normal or not. I can only hear it when the truck is off and music is turn all the way down, so I think my OCD is kicking in.

My thoughts after install: as much as I love to DIY, the $650 I was quoted for install/sound deadening would've been worth it. That being said, I can put that $ into the next mod :)

After installing the amp & setting it according to instructions I'm getting noise also but only when I have the volume turned all the way down. Does anyone else have this issue or fix?

Mine is Non-JBL so I don't have the DSR1. Just the amp and speakers from James. Not sure if it makes a difference.

Check all your grounds and make sure power isn't ran with your audio cables.

I used JL audio's tuning guide/audio files (using JL RD 900/5 amp) and adjusted the gain down, which helped kill most of the static. If you don' have an amp that shows clipping, look up ********* tuning instructions. I still have a little static, but I can't hear it at all with the engine running or audio playing so I'm ok with it.

Double checked my ground and its solid. Ran the power wire on the passenger side. No aftermarket RCA wires. All factory wires. Wouldn't think it would cause an issue since many members ran it the same way. Thanks for the info though.

I have static noise at zero volume and when I disconnect the rca cables from the amp, the noise goes away. That tells me that noise is coming from either the HU or the DSR1. Tried to lower the gain on the DSR1 (currently at -3.0 dB) but noise is still there. Other people with DSR1 have the same noise?

I had to turn my front and rear gain down to the 11 oclock position for the hiss from the tweeters. No big deal (Factory JBL system). Didn't get rid of completely when I am sitting there with the truck not running, but when it is started, you cant hear it.

the his is from the bluetooth module in the radio . Some have it worse than others . adjusting the gains where its barely audible with volume all the way down is the best we have done with the factory head unit . The problem is TOYOTA made the radio where the bluetooth module is always on no matter what source you are on . If you need help getting rid of it shoot me an email with your settings pictured on the amp to tech12volt@gmail.com and I will tell you what you need to adjust . This is with both jbl and non jbl head units. If you were to stick you ear up to a factory system tweeter you can hear the noise with all factory components and you just amplified that noise by 10
