And if you bury it, the neighbor will be less likely to find it.

My decision to sign up for a 5 year plan at 9c/kwh is looking pretty good right now. Doesn't expire til the end of 2025. In 2026 I may have to sell a kidney to keep the AC on

Is there an option for current market rates and see if the contracted rates drop in the future?

You don't run gas on that heater? I am thinking to replace the AC come winter. This one is almost 20 years. Choking as we speak.

No. Unfortunately our house is 100% electric. I looked into solar but the reason we wanted this place is the reason we can't have solar: trees

which reminds me...your Natural gas bill is about to skyrocket too. In our area you can't but forward pricing contracts on natural gas service.

Trees cover the whole yard? If you have enough land you can do ground mount solar.

damn... thats a lot of usage. we run 2 AC units with heat pumps and, in the middle of the texas summers, we have used 2400 kWh for a cost of $280.

Contract electric? Is this for outskirt cities? I just pay CPS, I don’t think I have a choice in SATX.

Yeah pretty much. It is challenging for us to have even a garden lol but it's sooo nice to have shade. A lot of these trees are old so it really does add to the overall feel of the place.

It's a state where you can drive all day and still not leave it lol. My dad's area has only one water provider, one electric provider, and one IP. He only recently got broadband internet due to availability. He is gonna sign onto Elon's deal as soon as it comes around his neck of the woods

I priced Solar a month ago.

    not even funny.

33k to do our house 9kw system. would provide $108 a month on avg. the 15yr note would be ~$200

    LOL.

and we have hail & hurricanes.

OTOH...the Tesla roof system was $154,000.00 with battery pack & shit.

The only guy to quote us for solar, and we had 3 companies come by, wanted ~$80k for 50ish panels. Yep that many.

By the way, our house is 2 story. Upstairs was noticeably hotter and that is where all the kids' rooms are. We had a company install a solar fan and install radiant heat barrier. Made a huge difference. Unfortunately, our roofline is our ceiling so it's still warmer but a lot better.

We only use under 1300 kW per month in the summer months.
Never over 800 kW in the winter, but we have a gas heater and water heater.
    I have average billing.
The yearly average electric bill is around $100 a month.
The yearly average gas bill is under $60 a month.

2100 sq ft house, but there are just the 2 of us.
Had the 13-year-old furnace and AC replaced a couple of years ago and that helped.
Just had new windows installed a few months ago and they seem to help as well.
With the old AC and windows, mid-summer it seemed the AC ran constantly.
Now it runs a little every 4 to 6 hours when it's 100 outside..
The roof was replaced 2 years ago, not sure if that made any difference.

When we first moved here we had a co-op utility provider and no choice.
But that changed about 4 years in and we were able to choose our own.

Ours, too, most like 1.5 story. Front is 2 but a third way to the back it slops down to the back.
That price was right after the Texas freeze, so I am sure that quote will be double now if not more.

Funny to hear yall crying about electric. But doubling is INSANE.
I live in CA, we pay 0.34 off peak and 0.47 on peak(highway robbery). I switched to solar. I pay 221 a month for it, but use about 2000kwh and produce about 2400kwh. That 2000kwh would cost me 740 at the off peak rate. It is summer here for about 9 months of the year meaning AC use. Solar is paying for itself, but if I had 0.09-0.15/kwh I wouldn't consider it.

The state of the world SUCKS right now. Let's hope it gets better soon.

I have friends in the Fredericksburg area, and I think CTEC is the only option for electricity out there. Not sure if they have access to different billing services like we do in the Houston area - even though (I believe) all electric in the area is provided by Centerpoint.

@ eick, 5 years? Damn. I was feeling good about getting locked in for 3 last spring. If I'd have found a 5 year option I'd have taken it.

    Too many, but not enough....
Does texas have purchase power agreements with solar companies? This is the route I went in Ca, where sunrun basically uses your house as a solar farm, and you buy cheap power back from them. Example of california rates is the lowest tier for our power right now is around .24 kwh, then goes to .36, then .45. Most people pass the first tier and into the second. This is projected to go up in addition to charges for time of use. My solar contract is for straight .11 kwh without any tier increases. May want to look into that. I pay 87 bucks a month no matter how much power I use.

Funny thing, my dad is surrounded by wind turbines and still has to pay some crazy electric bill every month because there's still only one provider in his area. All the energy generated by the turbines is sent to San Antone.
