The actual cost of living has doubled over the last year. 81 million people voted for it knowing exactly what would happen. Add to that the cost of automobiles, homes and 401k losses, it's been a really bad year.

We have a lot of folks in our neighborhood living paycheck to paycheck.

think about the collateral affects of having to fork out another $250 cash to keep the lights on.

on top of what @ShreveportTSS said.

it's gonna be a shit storm.

Elections have consequences. Planning a trip to see my sons, $400 for hotel, $600 in fuel probably. Two years ago would have been less than $300 for gas. Fact

Fortunately I travel for a living and have a shitton of hotel points and haven't had to pay for a hotel room out of pocket in 25 years but the fuel to travel from NW Louisiana to SW Colorado is going to hit hard especially with the GX loaded down and a rooftop tent. Going to be ~$600 in fuel each way. Could fly, get a rental car, and hotel all on points only paying taxes, food and fuel but wouldn't have my toys.

Don't know if you have Entergy or not but they slapped us with a $500 bill towards the end of winter. We called and said they'll investigate. The guy said they were getting calls all day about the same thing and a re-read of the meter would straighten it out. Yeah, no our meter is a "smart" one so a month later we got a letter stating it was correct. I ran into others claiming they also got high bills, some in the $700 range.

Unfortunately we live where there isn't another provider to try out. Typical rural drawback. Our IP was the only one for years until a fiber company got 200 of us to sign on and they came in so that problem is solved. Now just need some electrical provider competition....

We also had that winter storm and it is my suspicion that electric companies are trying to recoup expenses from that.

Just wait until more of these EV's hit the road and they decide they need to tax electricity more because they are not getting enough gasoline tax coming in. California style rolling blackouts are already being planned. Elections do have consequences.

I went to https://www.powertochoose.com/ to search for plans. I found a plan with Shell Energy and got locked in at $0.07 for 5 years. With the ercot delivery fees, it is $0.1089 per kWh.

For reference over here just across the boarder in Louisiana, we are paying $0.135 per KWH after taxes and all with AEP Swepco and no other choice.
Last bill was $210.33 for 1559kwh.

One of my companies created the systems that handle electric billing for parts of the recreational industry. Per management demands, we have had to enhance the billing processes to provide:
    • Minimum billing amounts
    • Tiered billing amounts, Example: use less than 100kw billed at ,22, 100 to 150 bill at ,24 and so on.
    • High usage penalty fees
    • Reading fees
Big changes are on their way.
