I’ve got a set of front Icon cdcv 2.5’s for sale, better than both of those and cheaper than kings by a long shot!

Theyre pretty close to stock. Maybe a tad stiffer but in a good way. Youre not rocking back n forth if you hit driveways at angles and at highway speeds you arent bouncing up and down if they road isnt flat. I had mine set at the 2" lift mark. i may add one CB shim on the driver side as it does sit exactly 1/2" lower but im not really bothered by it. Spring wise, it was whatever it came with. The rear shocks are really nice riding too. Granted I pull shocks off that had over 160k miles so anything was better LOL. I called Toytec and they got me all squared away and had them shipped out that night when i decided to pull the trigger.

Thank you for the replies - I will probably stick with 6112 or maybe Eibachs depending on availability. My tires should be in early December and I am pretty excited to change my truck up!

The weight of the vehicle compresses the spring, not the perch on a Billy or preload on a coilover. The way the spring compresses further is if you are so far adjusted, the shock is at full extension. If you lift your truck and the wheels don’t droop at at, your shocks are pinned at full extension. Even top perch won’t do that.

So the ride would be the same on the top setting or the lowest setting?
Setting the 6112 to the lowest setting and removing the shim wouldn't change the ride?

    Thanks..

No, I didn't say the ride would not change, just that adjusting the coilover doesn't compress the spring unless the shock has run out of travel. There are other geometry concerns. By lifting the truck, the original range of travel is shifted. I'm only talking about springs and compression and acceptable adjustment.

FWIW, I spoke to two well respected forum vendors when I was shopping. Both told me for the money, Eibach Pro Truck was by far the way to go. They both said the Bilstein 6112 wasn’t worth the extra coin.

Your money and your call. I’ve been more than happy with the Eibach and I hammer the hell out of them on some pretty rough roads.

I had the same experience as @1lowlife with my 6112s. I bought them because of the rave reviews on this site and aside from the lift, I just didn’t think the ride was all that great. But then, the ride of the Tundra isn’t great either overall. I loved the Tundra, but even the ride of my F-250 with off-road package is better. Handles better and doesn’t bounce all over the place on rough roads like my Tundra did.

I tried everything to improve the ride of the Tundra, sway bars, etc. nothing worked and I wasn’t going to shell out $2000+ for Fox or Kings or run with 500 lbs in the bed. The best thing I did was put Falken Wildpeaks on which improved the ride the most.

That's funny, I did the same thing.
When my D rated KO2s wore out, I bought SL rated Goodyear Wrangler Ultra Terrain AT tires.
    It improved the ride dramatically.

But the truck still feels like it is hopping over bumps instead of the shock absorbers absorbing them.:eek2:

I have the 6112 top setting and CB shims up front and 5160s w/ +3 CB Shackles rear. along with Built Right UCAs. I basically have a 3/2 lift. love my setup for desert and trails. 295/75 r18 Toyo Open Country AT2 on method 701 +25 and needed to remove mud flaps and push the front liner a bit to prevent rubbing. Then put in 1/2" bumper shims on no problem with rubbing at all now. consider replacing your bumpstops with some larger ones I have Durobumps.
In Feb I will be installing a C4 overland bumper w/ warn evo vr 12s winch and some bumper mounted lighting. I will find out then if I need more suspension or heavier coils.

I have 6112s set @ 1.9" with CB shims- 1" worth of shims on DS and 3/4" worth on the PS. Did this to not preload the spring so much but still get the lift I wanted. 5100 and CB +2 (1.25" actual lift) for the rear. Also went from the stock 20" platinum rims and tires to 18" Method 701s with 35x12.5 TOYO Open Country AT3s. Even though I ignorantly bought F rated tires (comp to 12 ply), the ride is still a big improvement over stock shocks and tires. Not sure if most of that is attributed to the wheels/tires or the suspension but I think the 6112s have performed well out on washboard and pretty tough logging roads. I'm only 2k miles into them but have no regrets so far.

If your tundra rides like shit, you might want to check and see what psi you’re running in your tires. I have LT275/70R18 load range E Duratracs, and typically run them at about 35-37 psi. Ride great.

I've been wondering if most who have harsh rides have really high air pressure in their tires. There's a huge difference in a few PSI.

    Too obvious.

    Or.

    It?????????????????

Good call at least to check, and remind me I've been meaning to air mine down. Thanks!

    Edit: for dramatic effect.

It never hurts to check and experiment. At least it'll rule out the PSI as a problem, and it's free.

I come from sports ( Motocross and MTB's) where a couple PSI make it or break it.

Damn - I decided that 6112 / 5160 was what I needed and there seem to be NONE for sale. My tires are in and my wheels are on the way....and I keep thinking about expensive adjustable shocks...drivr to the beach on firm - set them on soft for the week...

If it says available it should be. But he is quick to reply if you need to verify. He answered my email on a Sunday, which imo was going above and beyond.

I have 6112s and I have been pretty impressed. Not like I have a lot to compare to, but I’m sure happy with them.

I went with dobinson ims because I couldn’t find fox, kings, bilsteins, or eibach in stock when I needed them. I’ve been pretty happy with them so far with about 5k on em

This sucks - wheels and tires are in and i cant figure out the shocks. if i wanted to stretch on the $ and get Kings are these the ones I need? they show in stock. I dont really want to spend 2k but I also dont want to spend $800 and think about it then replace them later

I found some adjustable Kings 2.5s and i am getting those. I do like the idea of getting to the beach and adjusting my shocks. I ultimately could not find anything else i wanted in stock and my wheels and tires are in. i want them on the truck not in storage

FYI, just talked through this with Bilstein. 6112 is rebuildable, but Bilstein isn’t accepting any outside rebuild orders. All rebuild requests are sent to down south motor sports. It’s $300/each to rebuild a 6112, I called and they also said it’s listed on their website.

Kicker is Bilstein said Tundra/Sequoia 6112’s weren’t scheduled to be on the production line until the end of quarter 1 2022. So anyone looking for 6112’s this year good luck!

I still felt the sting from fox 2.5RR shocks cost...until I hit the trails. Now, I'd do it again in a heartbeat. Kings, I would have felt the same since theyte comparable. Buy once cry once.

**edit** I have posted a more complete review of my King shocks here. This post is outdated. Please check this linked post for my updated review.

I bought my truck with kings on the front corners. Wanted to finish the build and added them on the back. While I was at it had l four kings tuned/re-valved for more comfortable on road experience.

Gotta say I don’t feel like this was money well spent. It was fun doing 40+ over washboards in Utah. Felt like skiing down fresh powder. But 95% of my driving is on road. And they are noticeably harsher than stock on road.

Probably could have saved $2k going and had a more enjoyable ride day to day that didn’t really cost me anything on the trails.
