Sounds like the system was left armed and the controller somehow failed and turned the pump on.

Some are suggesting syphoning, I'm just saying I've never had that issue. What I do know is that the truck and the system have never been in 11* overnight, so ????

I wish there was some symptom aside from a low fluid indicator I noticed a few minutes before failure.

Is that what happened? So the pump kicked in and pumped all the liquid (a gallon or less) into the intake?
That is messed up! Hate to hear that for sure. The next thing is how to make a safety net so it does not happen again!?

On a good note,,,,, those guys in Florida will give you a special motor. :)

Man THAT SUCKS!!!!! That is some S;:/!!! Did you hit something last time you drove it when you were getting out??

I have no proof it was the pump, the controller or perhaps even a frozen line that could have opened the check valves. What I can say is that a full 1.15 gallons were drained from one location into another.

For me, for now, I'm bypassing the kit entirely until the severity of the situations fades a bit. That was a really expensive 1.15 gallons.

I’m purely speculating so don’t take what I say as what happened. Just my experience with water meth has been the system has to be on and armed for it to spray. There is a boost reference for the controller to start spraying and ramp up the volume as boost ramps. No boost, no spray, low boost, low spray, etc. But to dump a gallon in a matter of minutes is full on pump flow so something turned it on full time.

Negative. I specifically put the controller in an out of reach, hard to get to location and confirmed there is nothing that could have pressed against the knobs or the test button.

If the check valves froze open then I could see the siphoning. System under engine vacuum could draw it down. But I’d expect you to notice the engine pinging or running funny before hand. Methanol is combustible so if it was spraying while the engine was running you should have heard something.

I always had an LED on my dash to show when the system was actively spraying and the intensity would ramp up the more it was pumping. I’ll probably do that on this.

I feel badly for Jesse on this one. The timing of this absolutely sucks, and I cant foot stomp enough that this was 100% a water/methanol issue and has nothing to do with the turbo side it. I'd be much happier if it was something that happened while I was making a Dragy run.

Nothing. Of course it was essentially at an idle until I got to the light to leave Dunkin'. So, kudos to the motor for holding strong despite drowning?

Oh man that sucks! I use the snow controller full flow AEM 500cc nozzle at 9psi. I've read where the AEM controller can be finicky but mostly in the older controllers. I use the aem pump, nozzle and a simple Snow controller.
The check valve can freeze open the nozzle has a check valve too to prevent siphoning.
    Using 250cc nozzle?

Sorry for your loss...that sucks. Hopefully you can reuse the block/heads/crank. Do you think a solenoid would have saved it, or did you already have one?

Yeah... I've got nothing for an actual cause, but def put 1.15gallons from the AEM reservoir into the motor. Overnight or upon startup is unknown. Why now is also not known. Only variable I have is the frigid temps that the kit hasn't seen on my truck before.

Again, cautionary tale for you and other water/methanol folks. I am running the latest AEM controller, a Snow inline check valve, and the latest AEM nozzle with built in check valve. I thought We had redundancy and safety nets for the safety nets.

AEM stated they sell the solenoid to prevent syphoning.

Hope this saves someone else from having to learn this lesson themselves.

Possibly, but I honestly don't know. That's the worst part. A substantial tab for a head scratch.

Condensation freezing inside map controller. But with no power or the light signaling it's pushing w/m. Did you have an external on/spraying light or just controller light?

What ratio of water/meth were you running? Reason I ask is generic blue windshield washer fluid is 80/20 and is generally good to below freezing. You can even get lower freezing temp versions which is just a higher percent methanol.

The lighting was bright, so the LED was a bit washed out, but the only indicator I saw was a few minutes before failure it started the 1 delayed flash (low fluid). Once I got off the road and it wouldn't make a sound, I got out and checked and the reservoir was bone dry.

Only run Boost Juice. 49% methanol

I'd be on the phone with AEM on Monday. Maybe just to get an idea of what was the issue in the system. We know it pumped/siphoned the juice into the intake...
Not like the old days 4wheelin it in the bogs get hydrolocked, open plugs, drain oil and get going.
I feel for ya. I had my daughter with me when my engine grenaded. I still hear her saying, is that bad?

Jesse has already been there with them while I was triaging in my garage hoping to get it to turn over. Not convinced it isn't temp/environmental related. It has a strong vacuum at idle, but again one would think it would have syphoned before if that's what it was. I've decided I can't dwell on what I can't change, but agreed it would be great to know the root cause.

As a man currently replacing 2 engines I truly feel your pain.

If it makes you feel better, I found a 70k '18 Tundra motor for 4k

    Sorry

There are few up here locally between 25k and 130k miles for $5k-8.4k. labor costs are the same regardless of what I put in, so I need to take the weekend and decide if the XAT is worth the extra money. I'm leaning towards yes because even if for no other reason that they have been rebuilt. Not a knock on a stock engine. It was my original plan. But here I am at an unplanned fork in the road. Stock would be faster, in theory.

Oh! And I have been following your motor "opportunities" and I don't envy you at all. It'll all be worth it in the end, right?

That is the list I'm shopping off of. :) One showed compression at 200 on all cylinders, which I might be inclined to buy and ship to XAT as a core, but IDK. Decisions, decisions. If labor was cheaper I'd 100% roll the dice on transplanting one of these.

On a positive note, I pinged Jesse and had him upgrade my order to the stage 2 with the injectors and meth. This should hold over my corvette itch for a while.

Yes Im turning 40 and yes I want a corvette. I’m fine with being a stereotype.

Swapping out an engine is not that difficult. If you got the garage space it can be done. In my opinion the hardest part is not dinging the windshield on the install.

Stage 2 is where it is at. You won't be upset, and it's waaaaày cheaper than a Corvette. Congrats! Eventually @Jego will also have his installed and there will be a good sampling. I know I was going to hit my 5.0s goal and I'm looking forward to seeing what you end up getting out of it.
