I've have extended processing and writes when I had a iffy internet connection. Attaching a ethernet/lan cable to modem and laptop was fast. Glad it worked out.

Yeah, we were right in the shop parking lot, flashed 100 times from the same location over the years. Was odd, but thankful it didn't brick it!

I remember seeing pictures of your turbo hooked up to the TRD duals on one of the trucks. Did you have good flow and sound with the TRD catback and the turbo? Glad to hear you’re getting to the bottom of the misfire issue.

That was the 2021 that we started with and unfortunately the customer needed the truck back before we really got the tune and boost dialed. Our new 2016 project tho, starts with the OE TRD Pro exhaust, so we'll know soon enough :)

    UPDATE: 12/20/24
As stated above, dumping the wastegate to open dump, helped tremendously, we also started adjusting the "Torque Reduction" mapping in the trans tables and were able to firm up the shifts very nicely without creating a 'slamming' effect. That, coupled with the open dump has all but eliminated the misfire issues between the 2-3rd shift. We went further and re-attached the wastegate back into the exhaust and have been able to keep things going smoothly so far. We will work more on the trans tables, the Optimal Torque Table and Line Pressure to see if this can help more, but for now, reducing the amount of torque drop between shifts seems to be the key.

We then installed the Banks Exhaust today, which took a slight modification for Brians truck, but all in, about an hour to install it. Confirmed it was installed solid and there were no leaks (the muffler had a weld seam split, so we tiger tapped it quickly for testing purposes, we will replace the muffler next time around). Here is where it gets interesting, I had tested about 6 maps Wed/Thurs messing with the Optimal TQ tables and Line Pressures, but wanted to go back to 0 with the fresh exhaust install. I went to flash Rev11, which was the best mapping so far and the delayed flash thing happened again. Mind you we are in the shop, have high speed Wifi, the truck was just driven, so battery was good. But ttis time it failed in the middle of the flash and unfortunately, we got the dreaded "controller init; failed to start" error... I swear, 10 steps forward, 5 back... After a few hours of messing with it, we are pretty sure the ECU is locked in flash mode. We are pulling it out now and will be OVERNIGHTING it to our friends at AMR Performance, who do all of our Mercedes Tuning, as they have the rigging to hard flash the board and hopefully bring the ECU back to life. If not, it'll be replacement ECU and tech stream time.

Soooo, great progress on the truck, tune and shifting, but a big step back with the locked ECU.

On a side note: Brian is really and truly the MVP of this whole ordeal, he has been open and inquisitive and always eager to see and understand and learn and has never once showed anything but a true love of the truck, the community and commitment to this project. Cheers Brian! The growing pains will be worth it in the end!!

    Until our next update!

    Merry "whateveryoucelebrate"

Man that stinks. Always my biggest fear when flashing. I always hook the battery up to a tender while I’m flashing to make sure it keeps voltage.

Same. When I was flashing the BMW, there were warnings everywhere to have a tender connected because the DME needed it's full voltage to write the file

I know, I have flashed Tundras with HP Tuners more time than I want to admit at this point, never had this happen and the truck drove over and hour to meet Brian to do the exhaust install, so the battery was freshly up to voltage... Lesson learned!

Small clarification on the Banks exhaust install. The Banks system needed slight modification, not my truck. :) It's still fully able to have a factory cat back installed with ease should it ever be wanted, though I don't ever see that happening. We've got better things to do than that. :)

Today was a tough one. For the first time throughout all of this, I threw in the towel on the day. I didn't care it wasn't coming home, but I had zero interest in looking at it not running. Thank you, Jesse, for realizing that and for being cool with offering up a quick exit plan (he gave me his 2016 Pro to use again and had his kids come up to get him). At no point did I plan to be dabbling with a 60k new ECU issue, but it's what is wagered when headed down these roads. Fingers crossed for a quick recovery!

Switching to positive vibes... I will say that I'm extremely pleased with how well Jesse cared for the truck. I know this is how it is supposed to be, but we also all know how things could potentially go when handing your vehicle over to someone for a few months. That's a long time for something to go wrong and I'm happy he took the care to not allow that. Thanks, bud!

I also got to see the coated, wrapped and reinstalled hot side and I will say that I am beyond impressed and wish everyone could do their install similarly. We know what wraps work, what wraps don't work, and how close is too close for things. Knowing Jesse's been logging some pretty aggressive runs to work through the shift issues, looking at things, you'd never know it's ever seen heat. I also got to hear the truck running with the Banks system on it and I honestly don't know if the truck has ever been so quiet underneath while running. The tear down and inspection was well worth it all and I'm excited for the tiniest of tweaks appearing to be doing their jobs well.

Anyways, please play your violins for me, I didn't get to drive the truck and I was denied the ability to nonchalantly post up DRAGY times. :) At least it isn't for mechanical reasons, and I'm "glad" this setback has happened to a few of us (yes, I'm now a member of that club). I'd rather a known inconvenience every time over a new gremlin nobody has ever seen or heard of.

Thanks again for everything, Jesse. Your Tundra kit FAQ is going to be well established after all of this. :)

Out and ready to be resuscitated! Also found an exact match in Wisconsin for $150 if we need!

Brian, for your records, its a different part# than what the VIN coded to when talking with the dealer.

It's not even my kit and I feel a sense of pride in the fact that things are beyond hardware questions and we're now discussing "current event" type of topics such as trans shift tables. That's pretty amazing progress and makes this issue easier to swallow. Thanks again!

Lots of courage. This kit should be not only experimental but also free :) Just saying. Keep up the good work as you're paving the way for a truck 5.7 that's about to go extinct? :) Not raining on parades :)

Brians been a test bed for EXTREME duty towing, we knew it would take extra effort from the normal weekend warrior Tundra. But we have learned sooo much, it's worth all the time and effort.

Also, with a 2007-2021 run of basically the same truck, which I pass probably 5 a day on my way to and from work. We should have a solid market for years to come. Plus, plus, we are already working on a set of Ball Bearing drop in turbo upgrades for the 3.4TT 3rd Gen Tundra! :)

For sure keep up the good work and thanks for your investment. Upgrades for 3rd Gen LOL? These engines are exploding in their own, now imagine a drop in after market turbo :) Now you have a lot of business courage :) My apology, I just couldn't resist.

Yeah, but thats their new Powerplant, going in a LOT of stuff. The development won't be wasted, but it will take some time after the recall issues!

    Small progress.

Original ECU is at one of Jesse's @TurboKits tuner. Fingers crossed they can recover the factory part.

I also have a replacement coming in from NY state, so it will likely be here either tomorrow or Thursday. Even if not needed, for $150, it will be good to have one on hand and ready to go. We have a couple dongle options (Jesse has one we think will work, and I purchased one from Tactrix) to work with. Overall, we're not in the worst spot given that things went sideways on a Friday afternoon heading into the holidays.

Huge shoutout to the supercharger crowd for blazing the trail.

Special appreciation for @Ponderosa_Pine for figuring out the newer vehicles. Jumping pins did not work on my 2019 and the below gives me full confidence in my plan b:
