Thanks for your patience all. This is our busiest time of year with people getting their tax refunds and wanting to finish projects before the nice weather, etc. Anyway, we ran out of MAF flow with the 4.5" MAF pipe at about 6.5 PSI. This is not a negative thing, it means we are making great flow, more than the tuner expected! The truck is running great, super-fast, but below our goal of 7-8 PSI. We really want to see over 500WHP, just to have a nice proven #. Even though we feel most customers will be happy running the 6PSI kit, as the truck was silky smooth and fast there. Unfortunately, we got about 2 revisions into the rescaling for the 5" MAF pipe and the tuner hasn't gotten back to us in over a week. Unfortunately, and we feel horrible for him, his mother is going through Chemo and obviously he has more important things to attend too. The donor truck owner, Ken, is getting antsy to get his truck back as well, so we are going over all of the options to see which one fits best for the current situation... The silver lining, we got tons of fresh new info, where able to create now a 3rd revision to our intercooler piping, which should aid in better fitment for all 2007-2021 Tundra with this kit, plus we got TONs of installation pictures to create a thorough step by step instruction set. Nothing is really lost here. We know the truck will handle the 7-8 PSI we are targeting with the 5" MA pipe and most likely break the 500WHP mark. The only thing we'll be missing is the DYNO to prove it (for now), as we'll undoubtedly get another truck in, maybe even buying a second one for our fleet and do it all over again. Anyway, thanks everyone for your interest and support!!

    Stage 1 - $5-$6K depending on options
    Stage 2 - $7-$8K depending on options

These are just estimates and adding upgrades like ball bearing turbos, ceramic coating, gauges, etc can push it higher. The plan would be that the Stage 1 can easily be upgraded to the Stage 2 with a rotation of the compressor housing. So all of the hot side stays the same.

Does the stage 2 cost include water meth or is that a totally different system to account for?

Tuning; I don’t know a whole lot about tuning tundras, but would you be able to change the MAF to speed density? This would eliminate the need to have it in the system.

Based on other discussions on this forum yes speed density is an option via Power Enrichment.

That’s interesting that the MAF voltage was exceeded. The Prospeed builds I had seen that are pushing around 20psi making 700+whp all use the Prospeed 4.5” intake and don’t have that problem that I’m aware of.

Unfortunately the one place that Toyota screwed the pooch on this platform, there is no back up MAP sensor. The GM guys with HP tuners, can completely remove the MAF and use the factory MAP sensor to convert to speed density. There is no way to do this within the factory ECU tuning parameters that we know of, since there isn't a map sensor on the motor and no provisions for one in the ECU mapping.

Interesting, got a link? Are they using HP tuners and the factory MAF?

Water Meth will be optional on both kits, but both kits will have a nozzle bung pre-installed in the charge piping for easy upgradability.

Delata is probably the upgraded TB. Aren't there limitations with MAF scaling as well? Thought it was recently discussed in the other thread.

That is quite unfortunate. I was expecting to hear it was calculated sans MAP.

On your designed build is there a temp sampling post cooling?

    Thanks.

Yes, if you look at the location of the MAF as well as the multiple posts about IATs, our MAF is located as a blow through set up and after the intercooler.

I do think those builds have the RCF TB, but that wouldn’t effect the MAF voltage limit other than it will only allow even more air through to jack the voltage higher. The MAF doesn’t care what size the TB is, it’s just measuring the airflow through the size tube in which it is located.

How are you extending the MAF back there? I know a few people, not many, have had issues with the Harrop MAF wire extender

Cool, so probably the same as the Magnusun instructions have you do. Cut back the wire loom to allow the MAF to move to the back, then re-add wire loom

Unfortunately I don’t have a link with a ton of details since it’s on FB, but the one build that comes to mind belongs to Bryan Jones on the boosted tundras page, if you join and search. That one is a Whipple build. The other 700+ build was a Harrop owned by Brent. I believe so, but those high HP builds also use a Motec ECU I think.

It probably was and I am not keeping up with all the updates on this thread.

So the MAF itself is used to determine charge temp? On Stage 2 Meth is used post MAF?

I LOVE that hood. Would be perfect for the Turbo setup. Would also be really cool to see the ram-air incorporated into an open top air box, that is completely sealed when hood is closed.

@TurboKits.com should put it as an option on their site and drop-ship it from the manufactures :monocle:

Meth is sprayed after the MAF, correct, we did not want to corrode the MAF with the meth mixture.

Gotcha, yeah honestly can’t say for sure. Motecs website makes it sound like you can use the MAF since they offer adapter wiring looms for MAF sensors. It’s weird though that most of us are pushing 10-11psi on a 3.85” Magnuson box MAF tube and in the 500whp range and we are just approaching the 5v limit with that. The 4.5” seems bigger than necessary for most of our builds. Maybe the blow through MAF on the turbo setup creates a higher voltage reading than the pull through on the SC kits?

Do you have any DYNO charts and tunes for people making 500WHP on a 3.85" MAF tube? My tuner stated that even the SC guys going to 500WHP are running the larger MAF tubes. Unless of course, they are using a MAF signal conditioner like from URD or Split Second and then just riding the top line of the tune. This is a fairly viable way to do it, let's say you are maxing out at 6 PSI and want to run 7 PSI, but if you are maxing out at 6 and trying to run 12 PSI, you are losing a ton of definition in the mapping cels to the max voltage.

There are dyno charts on Facebook, which if you really want to see I can dig up of guys making 540ish whp on the even smaller stock 3.5” intake actually (the Whipple and Harrop do not provide a larger intake with their kit).

Some folks like @nobodyintexas have hit the MAF limit below 500WHP if I am not mistaken.

Not everyone is using the same dyno either so there is some variance in figures reported.

@e30cabrio just put down some nice numbers today on the 3.85” magnuson intake. Maybe he will share his dyno chart here, as he did in the supercharger thread.
