Not an uncommon look around these parts… over an inch thick in some spots from a few hours driving home and had been like that for at least an hour. Just putting that out there as the other extreme.

Whatever this forum told me to do
I'll chime in from the cheap seats.

I use a stock airbox on my Harrop S/C setup. in Houston heat, my IAT delta is 30-40 degrees. This is measured after the blower & intercooler & This is sucking cool air from stock location.

If I'm at a stop light....the delta goes up....I've seen 50 degree deltas trudging thru downtown Houston

if your intercooler pump stops....it gets damn hot damn fast. Don't ask me how I know that. Thankful for the scanguage monitor.

I would be interested in seeing temperatures post intercooler on this set up.

my intake air starts @ 95 degrees in summer & the final charge going into cylinder is +30 degrees.

I am perplexed at this setup - if the IAT starts at ~150 degrees & then adds a similar +30degrees.

    I guess
at the end of the day, 55 degrees matters little.
this location is the only affordable location.
it would be tough to whip an intake tube back to the stock fender location

Between this turbo set up & the whipple install....this forum is awesome.

When it is that cold out I do believe no one would have to worry about engine room temps!:)

Between the turbo blanket which you can touch without getting burned, the meth system, and the intercooler I am sure things will be fine. There are plenty other out there running the same setup and do not blow engines or have any other problems. There are plenty of other things that can be done if temps are too high.

A fan can be applied directly, a vented hood, and a piped intake (all involving the turbo). If some of you have not read from the beginning you would know that they have been running this setup for years fine tuning everything way before this application was ever thought of. There were no adverse affects in the engine room!:)

All of this is exactly what is being discussed in the Supercharger thread also, about heat involving space age wraps even wrapping that heat box (super charger). The fastest Tundra on earth (over in the Middle East) is running about the same setup also and he drives his in the desert heat!!??:)
So please let’s continue to keep this on track. Hopefully tuning will start directly on the Stage 2 which is one more step of having this project wrapped up.

Yep, turbo with intercooler will be fine. Turbo install looks nice!, bet it’s a blast to drive. Don’t bother explaining to the t.com supercharger gang, half of them have no idea what their iat temps are anyways because they measure before boost and cooler.:stirthepot:

Everyone commenting with a Harrop does, the sensor is located post supercharger/intercooler brick. The intercooler will obviously work as designed, but there’s no denying it would work better if it was getting fed air that is 75 degrees cooler. It’s just constructive criticism, not intended to be taken as insult. The turbo kit looks nice, just saying if I bought one I’d personally come up with a solution to not use engine bay air for the intake.

Any places in the Phoenix, AZ area prepared to install the Stage 2 in a 2018 Tundra? Really interested but in the fence still until the dust settles and the $$ comes out for a total purchase and install that includes the tuning.

Also with the tuning, I currently have a tune and own it. If something happens i can always reinstall it. How does this HP Tune work and why would I have to pay in the event something happened (i. e. reflashed at dealership) and it was removed?

Just reload the tune. If the tuner doesn’t give you a copy of it (which they should), just buy the dongle and download the tune to your computer.

Does that work with a locked tune?, have a few tunes from different sources that are locked and was told a reflash would require new tune. Decided not to over-think it and bought a do not flash cover for the obd port.14A9DC6E-CDEF-4E29-B73C-90886461FFE3.jpg

I was just talking based on what I read early in this post (read every page) that you would have to pay them to reinstall it if anything happened

Locked only means you can't pull their file and modify it. The reflash causing a new tune is because your base file would be different than the one they wrote your previous tune with so they'd have to start from scratch.

Ok,,,,, here is an update: the new base tune is flashed and the truck is running just fine (I hope it is fine as I added that. I assume it is up and going fine or he would not drive it!!) They had a set of injectors in but did not like how they fit so they overnighted some 650cc ones in and good to go.

They are duplicating some pipe pieces as they like how they fit compared to his truck. The fuel pump is in and sounds like they are buttoning up the Stage 2. He plans on driving the truck home today. Now the tuning (hope all the bad weather has passed)!!! and once that is finished then a dyno run. Jesse will get me a more better update with pictures late today or early tomorrow. They lost a few days due to weather but seemed to have jumped right in and got er done!!!:)

I might add that I think it is always a good thing that the motor runs after replacing the fuel pump, injectors, and a new tune flashed!!!:) Very Happy about all that!!:)
    Good show!!

Yes, reflash will require new tune unless you’re doing it yourself. I have both, that’s why my obd port is blocked.
Probably work better, maybe not enough to justify cost.:notsure: But one thing to consider, and I will shut up and wait for the op to post results. Your charge air cooler is part of the engine due to packaging, you can watch your temps rise with engine temp.. The stand alone charge air cooler mounted up front is not subject to direct engine temperature, and likely capable of lowering iat very well.

I’ll have the finished tune or at least bare minimum the file name so I can get to it. Jesse is taking care of all that as they had to do the tune for the first part now will finish with this part!! Stage 2,,,, exit stage left!!!!:)

This is one of the things that I am paying for,,, (the initial tune) I think?? :)

If you’re referring directly to my charge air cooler, supercharger intercooler is a separate circuit entirely from the engine coolant. There’s an intercooler brick inside the blower for heat absorption and a front mount intercooler mounted in front of the radiator for heat rejection. The air is never more than 30-40 degrees over ambient entering the cylinders even on a WOT 1/4 mile pull (in fact it drops in temp at WOT in all of my data logs). I monitor it at all times with a scangauge.

On the contrary, pulling air from the engine bay will be bringing in air that is already heated 50+ degrees over ambient before it ever even gets compressed through the turbo. The Richard Holdener video I shared in post 290 can better explain the impacts of an HAI better than I’m capable of if you’re truly interested. We don’t know the costs yet, so it’s hard to comment on that. I see there is no sense in discussing it any further in this thread, but just responding to your message in reference to my IATs.

In regards to all of the questions about IATs... Here is a video we just uploaded, it's technically 2 videos in 1, one about 30min into the drive and the other about 60min in. The drive totaled about 1.5hrs including back roads, stop and go and highway. It was 45* outside (+/-1-2*) and the highest I saw for IATs sitting in a line of traffic that took 3 lights to get through, was at a delta of 10*, so 45* outside temp, 55* IAT. For the most part, it was only 1-2* difference. The IAT / MAF sensor is AFTER the intercooler, but before the water meth nozzle.

Here are 2 HPT log screen shots of a quick blip boosted run, still only 3ish PSI, as we are dialing in the tune now for stage 2 and higher boost, but you can see the first pic is where IATs started while cruising and then the second pic is what the IATs where at the top of the run, again, it was a short blip. Since this is such a hot topic, we wanted to get as much info out as fast as possible. Once we have the tune dialed in better and are running higher boost for longer duration, we'll post more info. We also realize this doesn't answer the towing / prolonged boost question yet, but we will get there.

    Thanks!

About what I expected. Intercoolers do a great job. Throw an IAT sensor in the pre intercooler pipe and that’ll really open some eyes.

Some more IATs, this was after about 3 or 4 boosted logging runs (by the way it feels amazing). It's about 30* out this morning, but here is the great thing, cruising 43*, boosting 41*...

Those iat deltas are better than my open filter cold air intake that’s right next to the fender.

What PSI was it pushing for that little stint? Is that a 3psi pull for 3 seconds at 65% throttle? Looks great for low ambient, low boost, quick throttle stabs that won’t actually generate heat to contend with. I want to see the IATs on a 10 second sweep WOT dyno pull with the hood closed. Can you record that when you get the stage 2 on the dyno?

When I purchased the truck and jumped in and started all the mods/additions I did so with the image of trying to keep the truck looking like everything belonged. There was a place for everything and it looks like it belonged there.

I am only getting pictures and explanations over the phone or thru the ole innerweb, but I must say Jesse is very thoughtful and plans out the application of where, what, and how things are going to be placed and look like a professional has done it all. This has continued thru this whole process.I am much appreciative of how everything that has been added to the truck looks dang good and subtle/expertise and looks like it is a part of the truck. Thank you for doing that!! :)

These were full rip, 3ish PSI runs. We have not engaged the boost controller yet, still early in the tuning process. If these logs look good, which I suspect they will, hopefully more boost next time. In regards to the runs, they were about 2.5K rpm to redline, not part throttle stabs. Yes it is low boost, honestly, so is the 7-8 PSI we are targeting for the kit, but this has been such a hot topic, we wanted to post all info we can when we can...

Intercoolers are great! Also, the water meth is bringing it back down to at least ambient if not a few degrees colder!!
