I disagree with this sentiment. The brightness of lights on the road lately especially ones people add aftermarket actually makes the roads more unsafe because you're literally blinded by the lights.

While we haven't experimented with it too much there are a couple of different lens options for those Tritons. We landed on this one as it seemed to fill the body of the reflector housing better. If you put those caps on is it creating a "dead spot" where the bulb is? I figure it has to, not? There's plenty of light filling the bucket so it's not a concern, but I was just curious.

I really hate F250 LED head lights. I remember when the Infiniti G35 came out and I thought those taillights were so unnecessarily bright. Now I am the one blinding people.

I think it’s just a matter of not being a moth. Keep your eyes locked in on the road, but I do agree with this sentiment. I don’t think I’ve ever been head on with an F250/350 and not felt like I was being blinded. Honda SUVs with LED headlights hit you with a rainbow beam too.

There is a black spot right in the middle but it's not noticeable. The first ones I tried were red PETG and that had the opposite effect- they glowed like a supernova

It did change upper vs lower bulb apparent brightness. The upper needed further reduction with a thin strip of electrician's tape to balance with the lower.

    I'll take illumination pics tonight

Guess I'm not going to be sharing those stls just yet. The hard drive with my cad files is dead and it happened before another backup. Hooray for starting over before I can make spares.

    click for pics
Pic in the sun, brake lights, you can spot the caps

I lost my store chat, but the wiring harness didn’t change the consistency. Do you have a phone # or email I can take the conversation to?

There may not be anything else to do. I was checking out the existing harness and it looks about the same as the new one. I can send these new ones back if you’d like.

Hmm… that’s unfortunate. Yes you can call us at 406-936-0206 anytime M-F and we’d be happy to work through things! Of course we still patrol here too all of the time.

To be honest, I may just say fk it and roll with it. The LPX will hopefully trigger each time and then if a light doesn’t come on no big deal. I just want granny behind me to know I am coming back.

have a good weekend thanks for the support

I think I'm finally nearing completion of this project. I know I've printed over a hundred of these gosh darn things. I need to print 2 more; I still have the older 3157 ones on and need to print the latest one to better match the top.

By just blocking the end and not wrapping around so it doesn't absorb so much radiation and a couple more tweaks I think I have a working set. So far so good after the first couple months. Many 90+ degree days and the hot top bulb is still good. They're still bright AF and the upper bulb is more pronounced than the lower (as per the original config) but the hotspot that is the visible bulb is obscured so it's slightly less intense to the naked eye.

Print in black ABS or ASA.

    **

If anyone wants the stl files to print the bulb caps I've been messing with here ya go. This *should* be the last I need to change/update them. They need to be in ASA or ABS with a fine layer height, i.e. .12 mm ish. PETG is not good enough for long-term use but it works for a short test. They absorb enough thermonuclear radiation to heat to 180-200F and that is above the plastic deformation temp of PETG @ 165F. Mine are ASA and that is supposed to be good to about 235F.

As for if that's too hot for the globe... the small bulb heatsink gets to 185F easy when it's naked. It's a hot son of a gun.

Previous gen ASA caps but you can see the color. Notice the wraparound I had to delete to drop temps.

This was one of the older PETG

    921-lit.jpg

Another older version showing proper orientation in the slicer.
    all-in-slicer.jpg

Got closer in brightness with no more dead zones over the reflector bowl but I had to go back. Newest version still blends the bulb in to the rest of the reflector just the same.

I’ve had my kit in for a week and am just seeing now how much difference there is after comparing screen grabs from my security camera. Almost to the point of guilt.

Just finished installing them. Went really well. The harnesses are plug and play. Fairly easy to install. Just follow the installation instructions on the web site. Super bright !!!! Love them . They should be able to see me now !!

I haven't had a single phone-distracted driver panic-braking behind me since they went in and before it was at least once or twice a week. I was actually looking into one of those super bumper things for a time cuz I thought for sure one of these days I was going to get hit at a stop light but it won't fit in my tiny garage.

    Love this mod

HotTails News - Option A has now dropped in price from the original $420 to now running $360!
Being able to source some components easier helped bring the pricing down! Anyone who ordered within the past week has been contacted and refunded the difference :).

Haha I'm glad to hear that you keep messing with it! Truly can never be perfect!
Option B is unfortunately gone. The time required to make them + the additional cost of components made it unsustainable. Additionally, Option A outsells B like 15:1... We are holding onto a few in the event that we have to warranty something or deliver a one-off to someone really jonesin'.

That's awesome you are getting the price down. Especially when most things are going up in price. Wish I could have gotten mine for less but its been worth the extra money to have been running them for the past year and a half :eek2: dang! Didn't realize I'd been running them that long.

Didn't expect a price drop in this day and age. That's pretty sweet.

Apologies i thought i was cluttering up your thread so I pared back my ramblings and stuck to appending post 671. Perfection is close... I'm just waiting on an infrared thermometer and a spool of ASA. I want to make sure temperatures on the little bulb's high setting stay consistent with the mod. The lower bulb is good no matter what but that little bulb is a monster!

I went with option A. purchased feb 2022. after more than a year of owning these, i am still super happy. I could not be bothered with other aftermarket tail lights at all. sure they look cool like the alpharex and morimotos...but vleds just cant be beat in brightness especially in broad daylight.
I smoked my tail lights about 50% tint just because at night time, i can see drivers squinting/sun visor down/or partially covering their eyes because it's really bright. and plus the slightly smoked taillights are more visible in broad daylight vs the red/red color. just because of the contrast.
my only slight complaint is because the price dropped now haha, it is what it is though.

We greatly appreciate the support! It's definitely not commonplace to drop pricing, but we were able to streamline some items, and we wanted to eliminate the pricing barrier as much as possible to get them out there. Just think... You essentially just had a $60 insurance policy for the past year ensuring that motorists behind you could clearly see your intentions!

Temperature testing. The good news: my caps have zero influence on overall temp of the bulb/heatsink. The lower bulb is quite sedate: after 10 minutes on high (like if stuck in slow traffic) the heatsink levels off at about 105F. The upper bulb though.... 185F easy on the heatsink fins. It's a freaking hot thing. No wonder I needed to upgrade to ASA. I bet money that will keep the housing thawed in the winter. Best to keep other wires tucked away from that little guy.

@memario1214 I finally saw another one! I was coming home from getting new tires installed yesterday and a Cement Tundra passed me that had an amber turn signal. I was like no way Lol. I had to exit before I caught up to him or I would have shown him mine haha. I never see other Tundras locally with the same mods. I still haven't seen another set of XB headlights around here yet.

So is heat a concern with these bulbs? Been thinking about getting a set,
But I’m too old to want to mess with something that is going to cause troubles down the road melting stuff.
