The wait for a hybrid truck is killing me....I commute into the city during the week but want a truck for the weekends and play. A hybrid truck is exactly what I need. I drive an electric car today, but it'll have to go once I get a truck, so c'mon Toyota - do it already! Oh, and I still want the truck do have a V8

You all know how this is going to go.....the next Pro is set for 2019. Most likely their will be a new color added to the Pro lineup which everyone is going to blow their load over. Then in 2020 they will offer that same color in the other model tundras but, with chrome and possibly a new grill option.
My bet for the 2021 4th gen........

I had an 08 Ford F-250/Diesel/8'bed/Club-cab. I spent 25k fixing it over the ten year nightmare of owning it. Replaced entire a/c system, computer module, front and rear main bearing seals, high pressure fuel pump, both turbos, exhaust leak, radiator, and on and on. I didn't beat it up, towed probably 5k miles out of the 200k, and serviced it regularly. But when it worked to tow or carry it worked well and with decent millage. It seemed the big three build their vehicles to last just long enough after the factory warrantee (or leasing period if you leased one) to satisfy the majority of those who purchased them. Sadly, trying to buy "American" may be patriotic but it'll cost you (though I think my Tundra was assembled here). A year before I bought my Tundra I contacted Toyota and queried them about building a "real" truck-just like my Ford. Their response was they get many questions like mine and some of the marketing staff was pushing to get into that portion of the market. Maybe they are getting the message. What also astounds me is the limited choices with their new trucks. If you want a work truck (double cab, long bed, 4wd) like mine you can't get many of the factory options found on the truncated beds with upgraded trim packages. So a diesel is a great improvement if so.

There is almost no mechanical difference between the 2007 and the 2018, the difference between gen 2 and gen 3 is almost not worth mentioning.

Longer list than the wife needs to know about....
    My wish list
    20+mpg
    450 hp
3.0 Off Road Suspension to Rival Ford Raptor Fox setup (Make TRD mean something)
    12,000 lb tow rating
600 mile range (current 38 gal tank would suffice with the proposed mpg).
    and all under $55K

otherwise I'll keep my current Tundra until it dies.

Hybrid or full electric Tundra will perhaps elevate the product line over the competition in the future that may possibly push annual sales past the 100K+ to hopefully in the 200K+ annual sales figure, but they got to do it now!

However, I still think no matter what Toyota does with the full size truck in the future, brand loyalty will impede new shoppers from converting Tundra annual sales...it is one hell of a reliable truck as documented by the consumer reports, yet how in the hell is Ford able to sell 800K F150s yearly and most folks have multiple Q/A problems with that product…

Yes to hybrid... eventually. Not serious talk yet regarding the redesign being as such.
The Turbo V6 from Lexus should be what we see introduced into our next Tundra.

2-3 years is the redesign truck line up... Taco, Tundra, 4Runner and Sequoia will all launch roughly together.

The Hybrid if it comes has been said to tow 15,000lbs and we'll see Hybrid more in even our competitors lineups, so if they proceed as will we.
More aluminum paneling to arrive on the redesign to help keep weight down, even though they don't like it as a product as much. It's market demands leading the change.

We got these notes in a recent dealership meeting provided by Toyota.

That is also when we learned of the upcoming Corolla Hybrid, AWD Camry, Prius and Avalon, along with the TRD Camry coming out soon.
    Enjoy!

The big 3 sell a lot of trucks to companies for work trucks, something Toyota hasn't broken into.

I sure hope they don't go to a Turbo 6 for the next gen, not really interested in a Hybrid either so hope if they go that route we at least have just a straight gas engine choice.

Toyota has been slack at redesigns for there trucks, heck even the Tacoma is still riding on basically the same frame. But people buy them still so I don't blame them for not investing the money to change things if they are cashing in with things as they are now.

Well let me fix that for you , That 2014 Facelift was not a new GEN of Tundra , you may be able to get away with 2.5 but we have not seen a GEN 3 Tundra yet.

    Gen1: 2001 to 2006
    Gen2: 2007 to 2020?
    Gen3: 2020 to ?????

How is easy for instance look at the current GM commercial 18% rebate $9000 off and Ford is doing the same thing best offer right now is about $5500 cash back plus they have alot more room to play on price. Any here know what its like trying to haggle with Toyota. Ford and Chevy will do anything and everything to gain market dominance and they have been for a long time, but lack in quality and reliability.
OH YEAH, almost forgot rumor here out of the plant is Twin Turbo V6. I'm not how reliable that source is just saying it's a rumor. Hate to see the beast go though.

I bought my tundra over other brands to avoid all the things mentioned in this thread!

I just want cushy seats and a quality stereo on the next gen. That’s about it! Oh and if they make a suburban type vehicle (extended sequoia) I’m likely to be a buyer.

    Unless it’s a blown v6.

I hope we just see higher payload and towing numbers, I'm actually happy with my current Platinum and my previous 3 Tundras before this one. The 5.7 could use extra gears and a power bump, but overall it's still a good reliable powertrain.

I've driven a few different trucks and the new trucks have nicer bells and whistles and get better fuel economy, but I still prefer my Tundra as a whole. I like the GM half-ton trucks, but the AFM is a deal breaker for me. I've driven multiple 5.3's and a few 6.2s, the 5.3 feels very sluggish but out cruising on the highway I've gotten 24 before. The 6.2 pulls very hard, but requires premium fuel, which costs the same if not more per mile to operate as a Tundra. But in town, the 5.3/6.2 only get 1-2 mpg better than my Tundra, you don't see the benefits of the Ecotec engines until you cruise on the highway.

I hope Toyota doesn't go towards a design like the 2019 GM trucks and the 2019 Ram 1500s. I'm also really glad Toyota doesn't have start/stop, and I hope they don't add this to the next gen Tundra.

Was talking to a guy in the parking lot recently. He was in his f150. Wasn’t running. The truck suddenly lurched forward. Guess he must’ve lifted his foot from the brake a bit?

Looked like me driving a clutch for the first time.

    No thanks!

I know some executives at Toyota in Plano Headquarters. He said they will go more toward hydrogen fuel cell and not electric. Watch YouTube video Toyota fuel cell semi vs diesel semi drag race.

Let's face it guy's and dolls. Tundra is second fiddle to the Tacoma, Camary, and Rav4. I just hope Toyota paid attention to there Tundra customers needs and wants. If not...well I'm just fine driving my 08 till the wheels fall off :eek2:

I'm pretty much doing that already! The Tacoma gets the pampering, probably even more after the new Ranger hits the streets....

    Not nearly enough room here!
Yeah, but look at how cheap is was for Toyota's Beancounters. They add a few V-Crimps to the body, freshen the interior, while pulling features that were standard equipment in years past o_O

Hoping by the time I’m in for another tundra which isn’t several years it will be 100% fully electric, can tow 15,000lbs+, lockers, lift for bigger shoes and all the creature comforts the competitors have.

Who’s ganna want to tow 15,000lbs+ with a half ton!! That’s just unsafe! I don’t care what the manufacturer says. I wouldn’t tow more than 9,000lbs with a 1/2 ton. IMO anyway.
