seriously! Just being able to buy one set of axles and know thats the last set you'll buy is enough for me. Warranty doesn't help you on the trail so I'll still carry a spare, but at least I'll be taken care of when I get home.

Just out of curiosity, is there more to the CV than what is listed here:

    Toyota Part No.: 43430-0C020
    SHAFT ASSEMBLY, FRONT DRIVE
    $345

    https://www.toyotapartsdeal.com/oem...=&Filter=()&Location=front-drive-shaft,,43420

Watching off-road fails, busted CV's seem to be somewhat common among folks trying to ham-fist it up big ledges etc.
Never had the issue myself, but have considered looking into how to DIY replace and parts cost...

"CV" is the joints on either ends that flex when the axle rotates. The axle is the bar that connects the CVs. The whole thing is called "axle assembly" or maybe "CV assembly" and that is the only way you can buy from toyota

Oh and I said they cost $700+ because you need two of them

I guess my question is, "If I had a broken CV, is this the part I would need, or would I need other parts in addition?"

Just curious bc I've thought about a spare, but when you said $700+ that scared me off a little. Also makes me more hesitant to be the ham-fisted guy. ;)

haha but yes, there are a couple way to deal with a broken CV on the trail. Install the whole assembly, $350 per side, takes 30 minutes to install. Need to buy a big socket, 34mm I think.

Or limp out in 2wd by keeping the outer cup in the spindle to hold the wheel bearing together if its not destroyed. If your inner or your outer cup destructs, then you are screwed unless you keep a spare outer cup with you (I do).

Only problem I’ve seen out of RCV is boot issues. My buddy bought 3 for his LT 4runner and had constant boot issues until he found a different boot to use on his own.

They were ripping, looked like they got a batch of poorly made boots and kept using them. Pretty much every trip he’d rip at least one.

I agree, just a big inconvenience to have to replace them constantly. Especially for $2000/ea. Hopefully they’ve gotten that issue squared away by now.
